Freshman Baker arrested

Demetre Baker, a freshman member of the Georgia football team, was arrested early Sunday morning on three misdemeanors.

According to the Clarke County Sheriff's web site, Baker was charged with DUI, "improper driving" and underage possession of alcohol. Baker, who is 19, was booked at the Clarke County jail at 4:29 a.m.

Baker was released at 11:05 a.m., according to jail records, posting bond of $2,500.

Baker is redshirting and was not on the dress list for Saturday night's game at Mississippi State. The Orange Park, Fla. native has not played in a game yet this season.

This is the 10th Georgia player to be arrested in 2010, and the third since August.

Is there any other indictment of this sorry progam??

Icing on the cake!

I've stayed a string Richt supporter, but it does appear that he is losing control if the program. The number of arrests is unacceptable. And the lack of heart our guys showed last night was pathetic. It's like they didn't want to win. He needs to get a handle on thinks and right the ship now.

Unknown said...

Why are they out celebrating after last night? I know he didn't dress out but he is part of the team and I sure didn't party last night. I would hope that the team would be as upset about 3 straight losses as I am. I used to worry about the off season with to much time on their hands but now...

Richt was hundreds of miles away for 48 hours, but yeah it's ALL HIS FAULT ANYWAYS!! FIRE RICHT!! ARGH!!

The worst part about this program are the fans, not Richt.

Anonymous said...

Icing on the cake indeed. How embarrassing.

Yes this an indictment of Richt. As a head coach he is responsible for his players on and off the field. Either put the fear of God in them where they are scared to jaywalk or remove them from the team. It's that simple. He has let the program become second rate almost as bad a FSU used to be and who was a coach on that program? Hmmmmm....

Yeah remember when the Florida State program was called the Florida State Criminoles?? HAHAHA Welcome to the Georgia JailDawgs.
The crime in Athens has gotten so bad! I left my bulldog tickets on the dash of my car while I was at the bookstore and someone broke into my car and left 4 more tickets!!!!

The worst part of this program is play calling. Bobo would do better to ask corso on that video game

The Real Texas Dawg said...

Baker has TOUGH consequences awaiting him....one game suspension, running during practice and writing "I will not drive drunk" on the chalk board 100 times.

And the worst part about this program are the Richt loyalists that continue to make excuses, continue to accept the downturn of this program over the past three years and continue to support a soft coach that has lost his team...all at the detriment of our beloved & storied UGA program.

Shameful.

Highway2H3LL said...

The UGA program is so bad with athletes being arrested and a disgraceful football program that the city of Athens has asked the University to move! A new University of Georgia will be established at Lake Yonah. The new program will be known as University of Georgia at Lake Yonah or just UGLY!!!

Anonymous said...

Start revoking scholarships for any arrest. These idiots just don't get it.

Highway2H3LL said...

I agree with the Real Texas Dawg. Too many Richt loyalists. Sure he is a nice guy but is he an effective coach?
if a head coach cant instill the fear of god in his players to the point of where thay are afraid to jaywalk or practice them so hard so they wont make stupid mental mistakes on the field he's not much of a coach! These are D1 athletes not 8yr old rec ball kids. Man up and coach up! Stop being their buddy and hanging out at the pool and get into their a$$es and motivate them and coach them. I dont care if they are a young inexperienced team. They didnt start playing football this year (though it looks like it).
I don't want another era of a UGA as a mediocre second tier program. There is too much pride, tradition and money too let that happen

Highway2H3LL said...

The Richt loyalist won't matter if we VOTE with our dollar. DOn't go to the games. Dont buy the merchandise. In a large D1 program the accounts can help render a final decision. The networks will help out by moving the games to lower channels ESPN3 or even PPV channels. The bowls will help out by not sending invites except the Car care bowl. The only bad thing on that is the SEC uses revenue sharing for bowls so UGA will still get a slice. Fan outrage helps but MONEY or lack of makes it happen.

The argument that because Richt was out of town, it's not his fault is beyond dumb. You think he's by these kids side even when he's in athens? It's not his job to follow them around and make sure they don't get in trouble, it's his job, as someone else said, to put the "fear of god" in them so they don't do it even if he's in Timbuktu.

There are no excuses...too much talk and no actions. It's time for the discipline to move up the totem pole. I'm tired of all of the defence for Richt. He's the man at the helm and is the one that should be held responsible.I think that the new AD will start to take this personally and that there will be some talks behind closed doors. The program is as bad as it was with Goof and recruiting has already started to suffer. I am not proud to say that I'm part of a Bulldawg Nation that continues to be in the headlines for the wrong reasons. Unacceptable!!!!

Just shut up said...

All you clowns just need to shut it. You all know that if we were 4-0 and ranked in the top 10 none of you would care about some redshirt getting a dui. Like other people said its just icing on the cake of a bad weekend. Don't equate winning with being arrest free. Look at the criminoles, look at Vandy and tell me who's had the better 20 years.

I'm embarrased by the arrests as well, but we all know that isn't the issue. And yes, if you think its Richts fault feel free to abandon your school, abandon your players, and abandon your humility by not attending games or buying t shirts. There are people whose opinion and money can make the university do things. They're not people that sit in the stands, buy their own t shirts or comment on blogs (me included).

Just shut up said...Possibly the smartest thing on here this morning....Good to know that not everyone on here is a bunch of idiots..... Richt has one of the best winning percentages in FBS...He didn't do this overnight.....None of you leaving comments (including myself) know anything about what it takes to run a program of the magnitude of UGA...Much less differentiate what a defense or an offense is doing without Musberger or Herbstreet saying it and then you spewing it like you drew it up yourself.....

Best Winning % in FBS, I think not...

Just shut up said (and subsequent Anonymous)....

You guys are just off base. As a long time BB participant, I can tell you with no uncertainty that this forum has historically been the most sane of all the Bulldog forums (DH would allow nothing less!!!). This is not a place where fringe fans hang out.

One cannot deny that there are big issues in Athens.....Problems that began in earnest in 2006.

Going into the season there was a 100% chance Richt would be around for the 2011 season.....now I am not so certain. Unless he is willing to make some more hard choices, we could sink further into the abyss.....AND I am not convinced that even if more changes are made, it isn't too late.

HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?????

Willb said...

I want all you "fire coach richt" morons ot go and look up the stats to every great coach in college history! Everyone of them had bad years! Some terrible! Even Vince Dooley! I believe he was winning five games a year just a couple of years before he won a nat championship! Imagine if fans like you guys called for his job? Imagine if fans called for every coaches job after bad seasons? We won ten games just two years ago! We were ranked number three to end the season just three years ago! Do you guys truly expect richt to always be winning ten plus games and contending for nat championships? It's unreasonable! Look at our history also! We are not bama, or fla! We are not always supposed to be great! The reason you guys think were supposed to be great? Mark richt!!!!!!!!!!

Willb said...

Numer two to end the season. Sorry.

Scott said...

Ozam and Willb... this is the result of losing. If Richt wins, none of this will be an issue.

There's been more arrests in the last few years than in the past. That is a discipline issue that the head coach is responsible for.

There's been near chaos on the field with errors, penalties, and broken plays. There is a perceived lack of discipline on the field. Again, the discipline is the responsibility of the head coach.

For the last two years, there has been a lack of intensity, a loss of swagger that Georgia used to have. It was last seen in the Sugar Bowl against Hawaii. Sure it has made an appearance or two, but not the way it did that season. The team's personality always reflect that of the head coach and over the last two years, we have not seen the "Evil Richt" that we spoke about in 2007.

I AM NOT SAYING WE NEED TO FIRE MARK RICHT! I am saying that Richt needs to really examine what he's done over the last two years and figure out why since the Sugar Bowl win over Hawaii and a #1 pre-season ranking the Dawgs are 19-11!

Anonymous said...

Look up John Cooper if you don't believe Richt could be fired only 2 years after a Sugar Bowl win...look up John Cooper if you don't think off field issues can cost you your job...look up John Cooper if you don't think going 2-7 against your chief rival can get you fired. We aren't Bama, I'll give you that, but FLA??? Seriously??? We had a worse all-time record against Vandy before Spurrier showed up!! We are SUPPOSED to be better than UF!! There needs to be changes made now and progress shown. The only progress shown so far is keeping ahead of UF in arrests (albeit of a different variety).

Willb said...

Anon 1:16 do you really think we are on the same level as fla. In no way have we been or are we on the same level as fla! Your going twenty years plus back! The closest we have came to having a consistently good program has been under richt! Go to sports reference and look it up. I also think we should be better than bama and fla but I don't see firing richt as the way! Who do we hire???? Why would they want to come here???? Remember last offseason???? We are not what we like to think we are! This is not one of the top jobs in the nation! Do you guys really think boises coach would come here. Also what's to say he would do better than a proven sec coach like richt?

drew said...

suprise suprise. the problem with the players is athens, all in all the town reaks of booze, sex, and drugs. these players are more worried about getting them a piece of pus than football. they don't care, mark richt don't care and honestly when it comes down to it we don't care. this is the epic fail of UGA as we know it. We have no one to blame but ourselves. We think its ok to get hammered drunk and act like an as* while in athens. Its no fun if we don't. They say we have one of the quiest stadium as of late, thats because everybody is hungover from friday. Also we don't play late games so we can't get our buzz before noon. Why can't we have late games? because we don't know how to act. we trash the beautiful north campus, we piss all over the beautiful buildings, we climb the trees. As an adult, I am ashamed of myself and the way the adults act on campus. We are supposed to be role models for these kids. Who are we to look down on these kids for partying because we continue to allow it and continue to enable these young adults. Look in the mirror dawg nation. Its time to take a step back and realize what we have become.

Unknown said...

It is real simple folks. The problems @ UGA are not with one player, or one coach, or one play call in one particular game or season. CMR is and has always been one of the best things that has happened to UGA Football...No question about that.

It is bigger than him. Yes,the problems are on his watch, but as the head coach you can't control and manage every little situation and circumstance.

Just look at these numbers and let them sink in: UGA has 10 wins and 12 losses against teams from the SEC East, our side of the conference, the side that we have to compete in and win to ever win the National Championship that the bulldawg nation thinks we are gonna win every year. Make sure you read that right....10 wins 12 loss in the SEC East from 2006 - Today.

On top of that, and don't get confused here, UGA is 3 and 7 in the last 10 games against teams in the SEC East or West. If you have forgotten, this is the conference that we play in, recruit against and try to win year in and year out. Not to mention, for those of you who have forgotten about the 7 straight SEC East losses during a span between 2006 and 2007, I'm sorry to remind you of this as well.

Oh by the way, for those of you out there that need a dose of reality....let me put it this way. There is not a company, big or small, private or public that would keep an individual or group of individuals employed if this was their level of production during a span of 4 years. Even if this same group of employees experienced better success earlier in their career. The shareholders and BOD would get rid of then without question.

I can continue to spell it out for the Dawg Nation if you need me too, but for now I will just let everyone think about this for a few days !

Willb, what is the fluke. This year or 2007?

2006, 2008, 2009, and 2010 were horrible years.

2007 was the good year.

1 out of 5 makes the 1 the fluke, not the 4.

We aren't talking about one bad year. We are talking about 4 of the last 5 being bad years.

Willb said...

So all you guys saying fire mark richt. Who do we hire then? Who do you guys feel can get us back on track and over the hump? Do we get rid of the whole coaching staff? Seriously I want to here exact names for a new head coach and why they would do better. If we do get a head coach it better not be an assistant from somewhere else. I would like to see a proven head coach. Someone where we won't lose a bunch of recruits. Fla got urban Meyer and ala got Nick saban! I don't know if we can match that unless we get Jon gruden boises or tcus coach or something. But again I don't think any big name coaches want to come to ga.

Good bye Baker, Richt and company.
You have worn out your good graces
in Athens.

Ozam said...

Willb.....

Most of us do not want Richt fired per se.....We just have seen the program going in the wrong direction (for a million different reasons) since 2006.

If Richt cannot figure out a way turn this program around in the next 8 or 9 games there is a high probability things will get much worse before they get better.

I like Richt as a person, but at the same time I've always contended he would not have survived his first four years had it not been for BVG.....

I'll bet Greg McGarity wished he didn't have to deal with this issue!
