Georgia moves up, USC moves in
Saturday's game will officially be a matchup of ranked teams.
Georgia moved up one spot, to 22, in the latest Associated Press poll, while South Carolina debuted at 24.
That means the Bulldogs and Gamecocks will both be ranked when they meet each other for the first time since 2003, and for only the second time since 1980.
Georgia won both previous matchups, when each was ranked: 31-7 in 2003 and 13-10 in 1980. Both games were in Athens.
Meantime, Georgia moved up to 19, from 21, in the newest USA Today-ESPN coaches poll, released on Tuesday afternoon.
Meanwhile South Carolina entered the poll at 25.

In 1980, the game was on national television, when being on television was rare. It was billed as the game of the fabulous freshman, Herschel Walker, versus the Heisman hopeful, George Rogers. Rogers may have won the Heisman but Walker won the game!
