Overtime blog

End of game, Florida wins 34-31

Chas Henry makes the game-winning field goal, and Georgia falls in overtime.

Players are stunned on the Bulldog sideline. Tavarres King was laying down for a second, and is now just sitting on one knee. Drew Butler stayed down for awhile too.

Details and quotes from the locker room soon.

First possession: Georgia picked off

We've now all been educated: You can win a game on the first possession of overtime with a defensive touchdown.

It didn't happen. But wow, did we come close. Florida safety Will Hill returned an Aaron Murray interception all the way down to the 1. For a few moments it looked like Hill might have been credited with the touchdown, which would've ended the game.

But officials ruled that Hill stepped out of bounds just before the goal-line. A minute-long review confirmed it.

It still leaves Florida in the driver's seat. Any score wins the game. The issues with field-goal kicking could loom large, but the Gators don't have long to go.

While I am disappointed, it could have been worse. The delusional idiots will get on here and will want to "fire richt" or "take murray's scholarship away", but this was just a tough loss in a game that we shouldn't have won

I'm not too disappointed by the game overall. I thought my heart was going to explode at one point. Good game. Sad day for the dawgs after the fighting to tie up the game. Still love my dawgs. Murray had a rough start, but I'm still proud of the way he played. I'm glad he is on our lineup and I hope he stays for a while.

A part of me died today.

We suck. I know it and you all know it too. We won a moral victory by coming back in the second half but that and $2 will get me a cup of coffee at Starbucks. Yet another choke session in Jacksonville.

There's no such thing as a $2 cup of coffee at Starbucks.

Well, let's rally round the boys and hopefully get a W against Idaho State.

I'm happy with the way we came back, but that first half killed us. I'm baffled about our reluctance to throw it to A.J. and to try to run when the rushing defense is playing excellent. This is an example of how Bobo can't handle the play calling responsibilities. Murray's ability to come back certainly is relieving, but it looks like it won't matter till next season.

Yes we are bad. Fla sucks but still we gave the game away. Much like Staford's last game with Fla. We, for all our problems, were the better team and we lost because of our screw ups. Murray is not as good as people make him out to be. Why do tipped passes become interceptions. First, the play is predictable so the defense is prepared and in postion. Then the quarterback still throws the ball into coverage (usually high because there is coverage) and the ball is intercepted. I do not care who you are, if you are 2 and 8 out of 10 tries, you have failed. Do you want to be 4 and 16 after 20 years?

Although the comeback was admirable, I just don't know how you defend a 2-8 record. Pretty hard to win the East when you can't beat Florida. Richt is a better man that 99% of America but he is just not able to get this team over the top. If you were a recruit with a chance to go to UF or Bama vs. UGA, your chances of playing for a NC are better at those schools. Today's loss felt like a dagger through the heart.

On the bright side, at least we weren't wearing black helmets.

Anon 8:11 are you fm serious!!! Aaron Murray is not as good as we think? That's what you take from this game? He is a freshman! He has been amazing all year. Not had one all around bad game all year!

He made a few mistakes in this game but mistakes only make a player of his caliber better. He will be a great one. I have no doubt in my mind.

Even considering the mistakes he made today I feel better about our future now than I did before.

There is no qb in the nation I would rather have for the next three years than Aaron Murray!

The long TD run by Burton was huge for UF. They ran the same play two plays before, but Burton handed the ball off. This time he took it to the crease. 6'2", 220lbs, a young Cam Newton, with 3 yrs of play ahead. Myers next Tebow.
Now the Dawgs offense...amazed Bobo could generate 31 points against UF. Murray looked like a RSFr...3 picks and could have been 2 more. No running game. And why put Murray under center so much in first half. When Dawgs get a spread offense and a spread QB, they will beat UF. Plus give up the JAX site...only favors UF. UGA needs to get smart about this site. Helps the state of Florida but not Athens and UGA. Home field advantage would have been huge today. Looks like we are back in the Ray Goff era to me. Can not have UF and UA have a week off before we play them. SC on the road, UF on the road, UA on the road...all in one year with inexperienced QB, no consistent running game, a player who wants to go Pro, but can not manage a complete season in the SEC. Go figure, and you come up with 4-5.

No one can survive a quarterback who turns the ball over 4 times. If you care to watch the replays of the rest of the season, he has thrown a number of balls which should have been intercepted but they were dropped. We have lucky so far but our luck ran out today. He is a 20 year old in a game played between 19 and 22 year olds. Stop the freshman excuse. He is exciting but I would take David Green over him any day.

I am not blaming the game solely on him. There was a great deal of good plays by our team today but you have defensive backs who can not hold on to balls thrown to them, players who can not fall on a loose ball and return people who are just a likely to fumble the ball as return it for good yardage. This was a team effort.

You can berate everyone but you can not change our record. We will be lucky to be 6-6 at the end of the year.

I am tired of LOSING to florida. Coach Richt is a really good and nice guy, but maybe we need a hard nose coach who can beat the crap out of u of f all the time.

I'm an old dawg and Coach Dooley and Coach Russell we sure could use you about now

Georgia safety Will Hill?

Much like this blog, Mark Richt must go!

Dear crazies,

We are all very happy for you that Georgia lost today. We know you were looking forward to another L so you could come back out and lambast every single person associated with the Georgia program, and then say that the defenders of Richt are "berating" you. Project much? Anyway, we expect nothing less at this point, so enjoy your day of being "right" because the Dawgs (who you love oh so much, we know) lost.

What kind of preacher are you?

Anon 8:53 do you really think I have to make excuses for Aaron Murray? Regardless of what you say he is a freshman in the sec and is having one of the greatest freshman qb seasons of all time in the sec.

What were your expectations of Aaron Murray. You must of thought he was going to have the greatest qb season in Ga history! Cause if his season was going any better he might be having the best season ever.

No excuses need to be made for Aaron Murray!

Stop with nonsense! There is a simple explanation of why Georgia has lost 18 of the last 21 gaomes.

21 years ago the hatian boat people arrived and brought their voodoo to Florida. Just look at today, mysterious fumbe les rolling away from dawgs, OT brain freeze by Bobo, Murray dazed and confused with errant unexplainable throws.

Everyone noticed the witch doctors, right? They were the ones in the jorts

Rick said...

chris, you've posted that Haitian voodoo joke on this blog and at Get the Picture and it wasn't funny either time. It's lame and makes you look like a dumbass. Give it a rest.

UG fans, for years we suffered humiliating losses to you when we should have won. Every year it was "Wait until next year" and next year didn't come for the first 20 years I was a Gator fan. When you do start beating us again (and you will) you will soon forget all this and life will be good again. Stop complaining and support your team no matter what!

2-8 vs Gators since Richt came to Georgia in 2001. Fans/Alumni are fed up. This is no longer a rivalry. Rivalries are games that each side wins about 50% of the time. For a tell it like it is blow by blow perspective of the state of the University of Georgia Football program, please check out my new blog site: http://www.dawnofthedawg.com (part of the sports blog site Fansided.Com) Thanks!
