From the locker room

The Georgia Bulldogs weren’t exactly complaining about being handed a bunch of turnovers by their opponent, or being out-gained. They won their third straight game, and there is a sense of renewal to their season.

Pending next week, of course.

The reaction to the 44-31 win over Kentucky was “relief,” according to cornerback Sanders Commings. He meant the team having staved off the Wildcats in the second half, but the word could also be apropos to the team’s season.

“This feels good,” star receiver A.J. Green said. “With the shaky start, with the start I had, with missing the four games, it feels good. I feel like I’m a little responsible for the four losses. …

“I feel like this is a different mood right now. With Aaron coming into his own, the offensive line and our defense coming into our own, I feel like we’re really gonna turn this around. This is going to be a special season.”

Commings sort of shrugged off the team’s defensive performance in the second half.

“Really, when the game is close, that didn’t really happen to us,” Commings said. “When we have a big lead like that we kind of relaxed. That’s one thing we have to work on.”

Head coach Mark Richt was a bit concerned with his team’s offense in the first half, but pleased overall.

“I’m excited about winning a game somewhere besides Athens. We’ve caught a good little bit of momentum now,” Richt said. “We’re just playing hard and we’re playing with a lot more confidence right now. For whatever reason, we’re knocking more balls out and if it’s closer to us and we’re getting on it.”

South Carolina did beat Vanderbilt, so entering the Florida game, Georgia will be a half-game out of first, and a half-game ahead of third-place Florida.

"being handed a bunch of turnovers by their opponent"

Those 4 turnovers were handed to us?

Funny, i could've sworn i saw Justin Houstin slam Mike Hartline so hard and strip the ball out before Washington jumped on it & recovered the ball.

Then i could've sworn i saw Bacarri Rambo hit La'Rod King & strip the ball before Sanders Commings recovered it.

Next, I could've sworn i saw Justin Houston pound the shit out of Donald Russell for a loss near the 5 that caused the fumble.

And finally, i could've sworn i saw Sanders Commings intercept a pass from Mike Hartline in the endzone for a touchback after a blitz from UGA.

Not one of those turnovers were handed to us. They were forced & earned. And Georgia defense deserves the credit.

Eh, I will take a Georgia win either way, but "SethEmersonNeedsGlasses", I think you may need to get some glasses yourself. We won, but we didn't "beat" them. If we play like that against Florida or Auburn, we are finished. Good win, but overall not very good playing.

Florida has a great Defense; Kentucky has a sorry Defense.

44-31 that’s great.

We needed that. Florida down there waiting on us to show up and us 2-7.

4-4 with no win over any good team.

Colorado LOST AGAIN. We have that BAD LOSS, horrible LOSS in addition.

Kentucky’s Scoring Defense is ranked # 98 in the country.

Florida’s Scoring Defense is ranked # 26.

Georgia’s Scoring Defense is ranked # 30.

Georgia’s Total Offense is # 62.

Florida’s Total Offense is even worse at # 89.

Since he has already played 3 plays this season, that we see Mack Brown.

Aaron Murray had a solid yeoman’s effort game for us last night.

Washaun Ealey put it in the end zone 5 times in 1 game.

He had 2 touchdowns total in the previous 7 games this season.

We sat on a lead again and as good as Kentucky’s passing game is, they really handed us the game with all their turnovers and sacks in the passing game. This really was the key to the game last night that our Defense is far superior to Kentucky’s Defense.

That will not be the case in JAX.

Our Offense, on paper, against these very poor Defenses we’ve beat this season is better than Florida’s. In the meantime, Florida has played better opponents than we have played.

Alabama and LSU are 2 teams we will not even play, for example.

After us, Florida plays Vandie then South Carolina at the Swamp.

So, the Top Half of The SEC is Ranked in the BCS Rankings Sunday 24 October 2010, and we are not in the rankings, and figure to get 0 votes.

It sure is nice to have so many BAD DEFENSES to play this season.

TOTAL DEFENSE :

# 75 Colorado
# 54 Arky
# 52 South Carolina
# 35 Missy State
# 14 Florida

So,

Florida is the BEST DEFENSE we will have played all season long 2010.

It’s not 2010-2011.

2010.

We lost to # 75 Total Defense Colorado, # 54 Arky, # 52 South Carolina, and # 35 Missy Sate.

What do we think will happen in JAX ?

Well, honestly, our Offense is not that good, # 62 Total Offense.

# 19 Total Defense for Georgia is good.

Florida’s Offense is even worse than our own.

And, Florida’s Defense is the best we will see 2010 and better than ours.

This 2010 Florida team is possibly the Worst in the Urban Meyer Era, and worse therefore than the 4-Loss 2007 Florida Urban Meyer team we beat.

Florida only has the game 2 weeks from now at the Swamp left to play after us, and that game means nothing to them if they lose to us.

South Carolina gets Arky and Florida.

South Carolina is clearly and concisely in the driver’s seat.

5-2 South Carolina and Georgia is 4-4.

We also LOST to them head-to-head.

3-2 South Carolina

3-3 Georgia

2-3 Florida with only South Carolina remaining after us.

Best we can hope for today is 9-4.

8-5 back-to-back will bring out all the EXCUSES again.

Know what is WORSE ?

We have 2 games remaining, Florida in JAX and Auburn 8-0 ranked # 1 in the country today.

There is no looking ahead for Georgia or Florida.

And, of course, all over Florida : It’s Georgia Week. Damn they have so many advantages over us in this screwed up 3 wins in 20 years series.

TX lost to Iowa State, West Virginia lost, Okie State lost, Iowa lost, Oklahoma Lost, LSU lost and none of that matters to Georgia or to Florida for we meet with neither team garnering any votes whatsoever, both totally and utterly mired not ranked.

Now, the loss by Georgia tek yesterday 13-27, that matters to us. The state our football program is in, we get solace only from that. Now, we are off to this World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, which we have not been party to in 2 decades.

I got flamed a little bit when I said I didn't see the wheels coming off the bus at 1-4, but after 3 wins, I don't see the bus running on all cylinders.

The offense has greatly improved, and we will see how much next week. And the defense is consistently getting teams in 3rd-long. But they keep giving up 3rd-long, and they still look susceptable to big plays. Our secondary scares me.

I must say I was impressed with Hartline. I felt Georgia's pass rush harassed him all night, and he still made accurate throws. Another quarterback might have had 4 INTs.

I must be the only one happy with the win. I agree with the first poster that the turnovers weren't handed to Georgia, but taken by them.

As far as the offense, you just don't need a lot of offensive production when you start drives at the Kentucky 30 yard line.

Some positives:

Georgia was +4 in the turnover margin.

Ealey ran for 5.6 ypc with no fumbles (not to mention 5 TDs).

Murray, while not having the impressive numbers he did the previous weeks, did exactly what the coaches needed him to do. Sometimes he is asked to make plays, which he does. Sometimes he is asked to hand it off, like last night, which he did.

But, having said all that, let's see what happens next week.

I don't really see how we were "handed" 4 turnovers. Sure, the fumble inside their own 5 was largely unforced, but does anyone remember the last time a Willie Martinez defense got 4 turnovers? Kentucky made mistakes because they were under pressure to execute. We were playing aggresive, laying big hits, and going for the ball. Things we haven't consistently done in years.

Other than some big plays on 3rd down and a lackluster 4th, that is the kind of D that Grantham said he was bringing. I think the D deserves kudos for the turnovers.

I agree, Andy. Good post.

So, we get a turnover and it's a gift from the opponent, but we give up the ball and it's all the carriers fault ?

It sure looked like we caused the turnovers, directly or indirectly, through hard hitting and by keeping Kentucky behind so that they had to get increasingly more desperate to force plays. They were pressured all night and when under pressure you make mistakes.

I could care less about the SEC East and don't get this focus on the rankings and such. Lose 3 or more conference games, you can't expect to win your division (unless maybe you're in the ACC). I just want good games.

Thanks for the good coverage, Seth.

The only stat that matters is 44 to 31. Its the simple fact of momentum. We've had three 40 point games in a row and the last time that happened in 07 we went on to win the Sugar Bowl and finish #2 in the country. Not saying that will occur this time just that having big mo on your side is nice every once in a while. These boys know whats at stake now and are as excited as ever about playing in Jacksonville. I feel like you saw some of that in the second half as their focus sort of turned away from the game and to next week. Im a student and the general feeling around campus is that we are going to beat the gators this year and believe me that can go a long way to boosting the teams confidence. Cant wait for Saturday.
