King suspended two games
Georgia tailback Caleb King has been suspended two games after his Monday morning arrest, the team announced on Tuesday.
King was arrested on a charge of failure-to-appear for a court date in Walton County, after incurring a speeding ticket there in June.
"I expect all our players to take care of their responsibilities on and off the field," head coach Mark Richt said in a statement. "When players don't do that it damages the reputation of the player, our team and our university. My goal is for Caleb to learn a lesson and for other players to learn from his experience."
King's suspension is more harsh compared to two other players who were arrested since August. Fellow tailback Washaun Ealey was suspended one game after three misdemeanors stemming from hitting a parked car in Augusts. Freshman Alec Ogletree also got one game after being arrested in relation to the theft of a scooter helmet.
Another freshman, linebackere Demetre Baker, was booted from the team after three charges, including DUI.
King's absence means the Bulldogs could be down to just Ealey and freshman Ken Malcome at tailback, and Malcome has yet to play this season. Carlton Thomas, who has started one game, missed the Tennessee game with a hamstring and his status is day-to-day.
King is Georgia's second-leading rusher this season, and started against Tennessee, a week after rushing for 100 yards at Colorado.

So from this and one other article I've read where the issue is discussed directly, looks like the coaches are seriously thinking about playing Malcome. What do people think the odds are of him taking the field vs. Vandy?
I honestly don't see the downside of the move. It's not like it hurt Ealey to be put in vs. LSU; he got plenty of PT and hype after that until he tarnished his rep by too many fumbles.
Ouch. Bad timing for a (relatively) minor infraction. If I were a fan of another school Id say that is a bit harsh, but as a DAWGfan who has grimaced with each arrest announced this year, I think its deserved. Of course the realist in me think if this had been say, Reuben Faloughi, there ass would be gone. Would love to see Malcome now though. Lets see if he can give us some momentum.
burn all the redshirts!
The message seems to be getting louder and louder - screw up and you will pay.
I think this is a mega-overreaction, basically making an example out of him because his teammates have screwed up so much. But I guess after seeing said screw-ups, one should be extra careful when the law is involved. I still don't like that he got twice the punishment of Ealey and Ogletree, though.
Sorry to see this. Hopefully it won't hurt us against Kentucky.
Re: the redshirt, apparently Florida doesn't really have 'em anymore. After the Knowshon debacle, I wouldn't mind seeing us cut back on them, either. We're not Wake Forest; we recruit guys that can contribute from day 1.
I think this comes from the fact that the players have been told that there is no more room for this kind of screw up. DUI's will get kicked of the team and if you get arrested for anything, there will be consequences. UGA is tired of this and they are putting the hammer down. King knew the rule and failed to pay the ticket, so he had it coming. I say good show CMR!
I would guess CMR & staff have told the players - "Get your life in order(tickets paid) - or face the consequences.
Do I think Caleb is being treated unfairly - nope - he didn't pay attention.
Guess the good news is he will be fresh and healthy for the Florida game.

So much for Ealey and King's dual 1,000 yard seasons!
Charlestowne Dawg, LOL! thanks for reminding us of that pre-season delusion.....the lack of character of a few (okay, more than a few), has been the primary reason this team has underachieved.
I ran for 1000 yards with King and Ealey on NCAA 11 on my PS3. I just don't get why we can't do that in real life? I guess because there are no speeding tickets or hit and runs in that game.

"And yes, I did say all that, carve it into your wall of things to avenge: I do think Georgia will beat EVERY SEC EAST team they play this year. I think we'll take care of the east and have one flukey loss to a west team: Auburn or Arkansas."

Not with Caleb King as your Starting Tailback... just exactly like I TOLD YOU Kathleen.
anthony- I know you were just using Reuben Faloughi as an example but he would be the last player on the team to let something like this happen. Kid has way too much character to let something stupid lapse and not get taken care of. He also wouldn't let his team down even though he's not a starter. His character and team player mentality is what is missing on this team right now. Too much "me" and not enough "TEAM"!
Ealey lied to the coaches saying he wouldn't drive.
Caleb lied to the coaches by failing to notify them of the ticket. Combine the fact that this offense is AFTER ealey's, it makes sense that the stakes are getting raised with each arrest.
I have no problem with the punishment. It stinks that we won't have our best back for the Kentucky road game. But he's made his own bed. This is his second arrest, too.
2 games a bit harsh Seth ?
You read the Police Report on AB-H about $ 500 and refuse to repay the lady with nude video discussed and the Rivals article on the search and seize from non student roommate and 2 arrrests for Suspended DL once for wrong way on 1-way and now 4 am jail yesterday, and this for a guy who has done nothing but get CMR bad press on the field and off after he recruited him here and you run in here and proclaim 2 games is too harsh ?
I must be missing something here.
I agree with the last comment...
King should be kicked off the team. He has had numerous second-chances and this is just plain dumb. Pay the damn ticket! One thing that many may not know, ACC Police picked King up from a house that is under investigation for containing stolen merchandise. Not saying King stole anything, but "show me your friends and I'll tell you your future." (From an inside source with the Walton Co DA's office, where King got the speeding ticket)
King nor Ealey has ran the ball worth a damn this year anyways. Both act like little girls tip-toeing through the hole and then they want to dance versus running down field. I guess a sorry O-line (that was supposed to be the best in the country) that blocks like blind 90 year old women doesn't help the run game either.
Either way, you play football for the University of Georgia. That should mean something. You step out of line, your ass is gone, plain and simple. Enough is Enough!
Anon 3:19, almost none of that was truth. The report in AB-H about the $500 was fabricated and the officers have verified it was fabricated. Nothing will come of it because the person was lying about it, but Caleb King will always have that attached to his reputation because someone made it up and reported it and the "newspaper" printed it. It is too bad there is no way to sue them for the damage they are doing to him, but the truth always comes out eventually.
Anon 5:39, you are obviously obsessed with a girl that is here somewhere? Write a poem about it already.
Anon 2:37, that's great you would kick him off the team. You are awesome. It would be nice to know all the facts, but since Richt keeps himself above the fray, I am sure he's not going to detail every single rumor floating about Caleb and explain all of it for you. But he's heard them all and he's checked them all and he knows Caleb thought that ticket was paid and that Caleb has nothing to do with any sort of blackmail or theft.
Anon, that report you reference was not in the ABH, it was in the Red and Black.
