Liberty Bowl looks likely

It's not a done deal, and can't be for at least another week. But it sure looks like Georgia is on track to be invited to the Liberty Bowl.

Steve Ehrhart, who heads the Memphis bowl, spent most of Saturday night hanging around Georgia officials, including athletics director Greg McGarity. After Georgia's 42-34 win over Georgia Tech, Ehrhart spoke highly of the Bulldogs.

“We know we can’t do anything formally until as Mark (Richt) said, we’re sort of under an embargo," Ehrhart said. But the fact that here I am talking to you at 12:30 in the morning, we’re pretty darn serious.”

Richt said during his postgame news conference that he expected to have to wait until after the BCS selection are made next week. But it's likely the SEC is getting two teams in, whether that Auburn and Arkansas, or South Carolina and Auburn.

The Music City Bowl, which picks just ahead of Liberty, now appears to be favoring Tennessee. That would probably leave Georgia and Kentucky for the Liberty Bowl.

“We’ve been talking about Georgia for basically all season,” Ehrhart said.

The SEC choice for the Liberty will face the winner of next Saturday's Conference USA championship game, which features SMU playing at Central Florida.

The Liberty Bowl is scheduled for Dec. 31, a Friday, at 3:30 p.m.

Ehrhart admitted he was "treading lightly" with his comments.

“We’re not supposed to be able to say anything. I’ll get in trouble with the SEC office," Ehrhart said. "But let the actions, as coach said, let the actions speak.”

Seeing how close we were to actually missing a bowl altogether I will take anything. I was hoping for the music city bowl but any bowl is better than no bowl. One more game with Aj Green. One more game to see our future Aaron Murray. One more time to see my Dawgs play. I never want any Ga season to end.

I thought we had lost earlier and I had this terrible feeling in my gut thinking our season was about to be over so I will take any game as long as there's one more game to get prepared for.

I only wish it was a team from a major conference. I was hoping North Carolina but I guess there gonna choose Tennessee cause of location. I only wish ucf was still ranked.

I thought it was over in the last 1:17 of the game. After watching the other insane comebacks in other games.

For as bad a season as it was and all the heat that Bobo takes, we have scored 29 points or more points in 9 straight games. Six of those games it was 40+ points. The defense shaved about 4ppg off of what they allowed last season. With a year under their belt for Grantham and Murray hopefully things will look up for next year. To me the biggest question mark for next year will be the offensive line. This year with all 5 starters and several backups back we struggled on the line. Considering that the fact that we put up 29+ points in all but 2 games is very impressive. If the line stays fully healthy and plays more consistent then even without AJ next year I think that we will put up really good numbers. That leaves the question of how much better the defense will be able to get off the field on 3rd downs with a better understanding of what they are doing being in the second year of the system. I won't predict crazy things for next year but I like the chances of us winning 10 games when you include the bowl game next year. How if AJ and Houston shock me and return, I might get a little crazy.

The record at UGA for TD passes in a season is 25 set by Matt Stafford his junior year. Murray had 3 against tech to give him 24 this season with a bowl game left to play. Good chance he breaks that one. He already has the 6th most passing yards in season in school history with 2,851. He only needs about 80 yards in the bowl game to take over 5th in that catagory.

He has also tied DJ Shockley's record for total TDs in a season with 28. Another record he should break at the bowl. He has 3,024 total yards this season which is 5th best all time at UGA. Only needs about 100 total yards in the bowl game to move up to 4th.

All these numbers would also obviously give him a great start at shattering pretty much every career passing record at Georgia should he stay all 4 years

Dawgfan17 I hear what you are saying regarding the points our offense puts up. The troubling thing is that both last year and this year the O-Line didn't get it into gear until half way through the season. I've been a believer all along that the coaches are not the problem, unless you want to blame them for not recruiting well. I think the issue is the lack of big time play makers. We have some very good talent in skill positions, but our line on both sides needs serious upgrade. I'm not impressed w/ our running backs, but they are good enough if the line can open a hole for them.

I would agree w/ some folks that Bobo makes bad play calling decisions.
