Boise State announcement set for 5 p.m.
Georgia has scheduled a conference call for 5 p.m. on Friday, and is expected to announce it will open the 2011 season against Boise State in Atlanta.
Georgia athletics director Greg McGarity and officials from the Chick-fil-A Bowl, which sponsors the kickoff classic, are supposed to be on the teleconference.
We're also expected to hear what will become of the Georgia-Louisville series. The Bulldogs were supposed to open on Sept. 3, 2011 against Louisville, then play at the Cardinals in 2012.
I'll have an update in this space later.

Wow, big ones McGarity. Rolling the dice with a swiss cheese defense but I like it! We win it could be a springboard back. We lose.....well.....lets win!
So McGarity wants to take the UF route to scheduling so we drop the home and home with Oregon, yet he schedules this Boise St game?
I understand that we get an extra home game in 2012 but it seems like McGarity is all about the money. UF wouldn't ever dare to schedule a game like this.
At least we'll be the underdogs in this game (rank-wise) so it won't be too embarrassing if UGA loses.
Imagine what a Georgia win does for next season. I'm glad this game got scheduled, it's just what UGA needs to get things back on the right track. I foresee a nice victory come next season.
UGA is infamous for losing big games. Will this be any different? Tune in next season!
shockley beat em like a drum in the 2005 opener. I dont see why 2011 wouldnt be any different. They were good then and talked about just as much.
We were great then. We kinda suck now. We will open with a loss next season. Hard for me to get excited about that.
look at the bright side. ESPN and all the voters will do their best to make this game as hyped as possible. they will somehow twist our team in the off season into a top 25 team so that we're both ranked coming into this game.
so we got that going for us... which is nice.
A blog full of Debbie Downers. Everyone's expecting a loss, but just think about what this does to next season if Georgia WINS. Where is Willb when I need him?
Will the tickets be distributed like the Florida game? If so, I think the cutoff will be around 50K.
Some of y'all need to grows some nads. We are not the type of program the runs from tough games.
Is this game still going be to played on 09/03/11?
1) It brings a sense of purpose to the off-season.
2) We're guaranteed to get some pre-season love in the polls, as anonymous@4:50 said
3) This sets the bar high for EVERYBODY
4) $$
I like.
Sr Kellen Moore v. Rambo, Smith, Hitman, Commings and crew? Could be ugly (for us).
Why has Georgia put a formal request in with The University of Texas to speak to Will Muschamp??
Great News! I am more confident in beating Boise (a much hyped and successful team) than Louisville (coached by the man that had our number while a Gator.
This game will force the kids to man up in the spring and over the summer which is something we desperately need.
Throw in the additional home game the next year and it is a win win. Oh yeah it can only HELP recruiting.
