Fourth quarter blog
4:57 left in game, Georgia tied - no wait, still leads, 35-34
Unreal. Georgia Tech had an easier time driving downfield and scoring on the Georgia defense than kicker Scott Blair had kicking the extra point. Blair's point-after attempt hooks left, and with five minutes left, the Bulldogs still cling to a one-point lead.
The Yellow Jackets have all three timeouts left, so the Bulldogs need to hold this ball awhile, and preferably score.
And oh ... as I wrote that, Brandon Boykin nearly fumbled away the ensuing kickoff, which would have been the game. But Marlon Brown picked it up on the bounce, and Georgia dodges a major bullet. Wow.
7:50 left in fourth quarter, Georgia leads 35-28
It's back to being game. Georgia Tech drove downfield and scored, then Georgia went three-and-out.
Very conservative effort on that drive by the Bulldog offense. Now it's up to the defense to get a stop, and I don't know if you can count on that.
12:30 left in fourth quarter, Georgia leads 35-21
I'm on deadline now for the papers, so I won't be able to blog as much in this quarter. But real quickly:
Georgia's two tailbacks have combined for 103 yards on 13 carries. Although Caleb King, who has 42 of those yards, has that glaring fumble.
Abry Jones also is up to 15 tackles, which is above and beyond his career high. Jones has been getting a lot of action with Demarcus Dobbs out since the first half with an elbow injury.
As I write this, Georgia Tech is driving yet again. So this ain't over yet.

God I hate watching this Tech offense! How do there fans put up with it????? I am so glad we don't run this crap!
Boring!!!!!!!!!!!!
WTF is Bobo doing?????????? Aaron Murray was having a career game!!!!!! Quit running the fm ball!!!!!!
Why do we always take our foot off the pedal????? This is a shootout!!!
............unbelievable finish
We are about to win but this play calling was sh......
Did anyone else see this crap?????????? Has there ever been a worse second half play called game?????
Omg!!!!! Why did our coaches let us score???????
I think it's actually over!!! I can't believe how this second half played out! Bobo has got be gone right now!
My heart can't handle much more of crap like this!
I try to give our coaches some credit but after this game I wonder if they are actually putting our players in the best position to win.
I'm still with Richt but jeez! Our team looked stupid out there!
Please ask Richt what the hell he was thinking not kneeling it out with 1:30 left and instead doing the one thing that ensured Tech would still have a chance by scoring. Seriously, I've been a Richt supporter throughout his tenure, but that move seemed pretty idiotic, coming off a timeout no less. I really want to believe our coaches aren't a bunch of morons
I think D. Tyson played every snap at noseguard!! He was absolutely gassed. Geathers stood on the sideline. There were very few substitutions. Could the back ups have done any worse? At they pulled B. Smith. He is useless against a running team. Maybe Grantham will head back to the NFL and we can try again with another DC. As for Bobo, MR is going to think of all of Bobo's kids and do nothing.
McGarity should make MR and MB watch tapes of his FSU offenses from his time as OC. That was an exciting offense. They are too tied to establishing the run and then the pass.
Am I the only one who thinks Bobo isn't the problem. Look at the point totals from this season. Scoring points IS NOT the problem, stopping the other team is the problem. Am I the only one that sees that?
Bobo is not the problem - we scored 42 points! I want to know why we seem to be the only team out there struggling in our transition to a 3-4 defense. We can't adjust to save our lives.
I should feel much more satisfied about beating Tech, but it feels a bit like we lost out there because of how sloppy we played.
Totally agree CSA, GT is a team that struggled to beat Duke. But how many times can these players fumble? It's ridiculous.
Bobo is not the problem but he is one of the major problems. Did you see Richt call the time out on the fourth down at the goal line. We were going to run the quarterback sneak up the middle again. Richt changed the play and we scored.
Yes, the DC is an idiot. He does not know how to coach college football players.
Everything about this second half made me sick! I am serious! It actually made me feel sick. I think I take this too serious.
I'll give the Grantham and the defense a break for this year. We have been ok with all things considering.
The offense on the other hand! We seem to take our foot off the gas or something. Everythings going great and then Bobo....well he's Mike Bobo. He is a qb coach and that is all he ever should be.
While I'm a big Richt supporter and I don't want him fired I give him more blame for this game than any I have ever seen. I know we won but....... Our players do not play smart. I am just waiting for a fumble, or something bad to happen.
We could not of looked more unimpressive in a win for the big time recruits than we did tonight. I don't know if Crowell saw this and thought I can't wait to come here.
Also if I never see another triple option team it will be too soon! I am so glad we only have to watch that crap once a year. Are there any tech fans here? Do you guys like this? It's not even real football. It's not fun to watch and you will never win big with it. Also you will never get any big time offensive recruits with that offense. I guess it helps UGA for in state offensive players. For anybody preparing for the NFL Tech is not the place to go.
I hope we do away with Bobo before the bowl game.
Wonder what kind of off-season coaching changes we might see, if any. Something needs to happen. I hope McGarity doesn't stay loyal to the coaches Damon Evans hired.
Forgot to add that I really feel ambivalent about Mark Richt at this point. I'll stick by him if he's kept at UGA, but a small part of me thinks we need to start from scratch.
For everyone who blames Bobo, you are blaming the wrong coach. IT ALL STARTS AT THE TOP. I don't know how to spell that out anymore clearly. If it seems Bobo takes his foot off the gas, it's because Richt tells him to. If you want to blame someone, blame Richt.
For those of you who are just saying we scored 42 points and the offense wasn't the problem. Did you watch the game? 42 points sounds a lot better than it looked.
I'm not giving our def a pass here but this offense they played tonight is very very different from the normal. They could not get off the field and had to be totally gassed.
Man I hope Bobo is the reason for a lot of this. I love Richt but some of the things I saw from him tonight. I just don't know......
I am normally very very positive. Especially after a win. A win is a win right? I feel like we lost the game. It just feels weird.
I'm sticking with Grantham. He has proven through his career that he can coach. He knows what he's doing. Hopefully that just transfers over to the college game. Also Richt has shown that he can be the head coach to a very good and very disciplined team.
Bobo is the one who is in far over his head here. He should not be in the position he is in. That is Richts fault. He hired Martinez and he hired Bobo. Bobo is nowhere near qualified for the job he has and it shows big time.
on a totally unrelated to UGA note, how much of a low class move is it for Vanderbilt to fire (ask that he step down) Robbie Caldwell?
I know he was 2-10, but so was the other guy last year. And then he retired 8 weeks before the season. Jerk move.
Caldwell comes in and has no time to install his own stuff, goes same record and gets essentially fired. Jerk move by Vandy.
I personally think that Caldwell lost his job based on what he sounds like vs how well he did. Just not up to the blue blood standard at "Vahnderbilt".
Anyway, back to UGA - I'm just glad the kids get an extra month to practice. They could use it.
I'm not just talking about this game, Willb. Just look at all of the scoring totals. Points are being put on the board, that's a simple fact.
If you feel the need to turn on someone, it should be Grantham. He's had the entire season.
It's not the offense as a whole. We have great players on offense. Any coach could put points on the board with this offense.
It's the play calling in critical game changing situations. Not putting our offense in a position to win the game.
I hope that a decision about Bobo isn't made based on how many points Ga has scored this year. It can be deceiving. We have scored more points this year than any year in recent memory but when plays need to be made Bobo or whoever is calling the plays chokes big time. We have lost a few games this year off his play calling and I don't really give him a whole lot of credit for the points we have scored. It's almost like were scoring despite him.
The defense I think has shown vast improvements over last year. Going into the game tonight we were better in almost all statistical categories than we were last year with pretty much the same talent. I think if we had some high quality db's out there this defense would look vastly different.
Willb I agree with you!! 6 of those points were put up by defense. And our offense could only operate on one cylinder - gas open - score way fast and then the D is back out there again. There was no way for us to MANAGE the game. We couldn't run to slow the clock, and when we were going to run at the end, Tech parted like the Red Sea so Ealey would give them the ball back.
I am so tired of how we seem incapable of adjusting to meet a game. I am SO sick of kids getting the ball handed off and then POW in the same second they get the ball the defense is on them because everyone saw that play from a mile away!
This game was NOT finessed, it was NOT managed, it felt like we found of piece of pizza on the floor, blew off a little dust and decided to eat it. And the bobo apologists will be like, "hey but we're eating, right?"
No wonder recruits do not want to play at UGA!!! The families here hear the fair weather fans and the negative talk about the program. I heard a family member of a highly recruited kid tonight say "my kid will not come here and play for these fans!" You say change the coaches? How about the FANS!!!!
Dude I agree that we should not be extremely negative because of the perception that gives off but you did not hear a parent say that. Come on.....
I don't care if you believe me or not?! It happened, the RB from Carver will not be a BULLDAWG! So keep it up YUK mouths. Other coaches use FANS like YOU to recruit.....think about that...Kirby Smart's DAD told him not to come back to UGA!!!! "Son, you know how some of those act like! Don't go back there!" I have given you 2 factual statements. So keep the YUK going so other coaches can tell the kids go hear it for yourself.
