Report: Colorado interested in Richt

When Georgia played at Colorado last month, it gave Mark Richt a chance to go back to the area he spent part of his youth. Could he go back again, permanently?

Apparently Colorado would like to explore his interest in doing that, according to the Denver Post. The newspaper, citing a source, said Richt and former Oregon head coach Mike Bellotti had "emerged as candidates" for the vacant Colorado job.

Dan Hawkins was fired earlier this week in his fifth season as Buffaloes head coach. Richt has said that he and Hawkins are good friends.

Richt lived in Broomfield, Colo., which is just outside Boulder, for about six years until he was a teenager.

The Denver Post said Richt "isn't believed to be in danger of losing his job, but a source said he may be tired of the SEC's pressure cooker and could seek a change in scenery."

My take: The first part of that sentence is probably true, but I don't know about the second part. Richt has moved much of his extended family to Athens. Might he leave if he was told by Georgia's administration that it might be a good idea? Possibly. We just don't know if such a nudge would be given.

Reading this makes me wish I had gone to a real school like Georgia or Colorado.

I guess I can't use my Richt connections anymore for work. This doesn't bode well for my consulting firm.

Don't sweat it. I have a MBA from Cornell and I can't find work either. We're all in it together, buddy. At least we have Richt for now.

Seth,

Have you ever been to The Georgia College AND State University?

It's pretty sweet.

Rodney!

Did you stay at the office all night talking on the internet AGAIN?!? I can't believe Multiplan lets you do this!

It's not good for our family. Don't bother coming home today.

Rodney,
It is not sweet. Stop lying. We all know Athens is the "Precious Place."

James,

Let's discuss this further at TheSidewalker.com. My handle there is "smitty". You can pretty much find me there 24/7 talking about Milledgeville or how much I hate Mark Richt and my bosses at Multiplan.

Do you like morning drive-time FM disc jockeys and find them as brilliant as I do?

James and Rodney,

Milledgeville isn't worthy of discussion.. but I wish I had a degree from there. Go Dogs.

Seth, you may want to clean up these comments. There's some people at one message board obsessed with another guy at a message board and they started in early on here this morning. None of these comments have anything to do with you story.

Thank you, Anonymous. These jerks have already gotten me fired from my job at Multiplan. Now they are trying to screw up my latest venture. I don't deserve this.

Am I missing something? None of these comments pertain to the story. I am slightly interested in this point though. Anyway, while none of our assistants are trying to be lured away by other programs, at least schools are interested in our head coach.

The blogs gone chat room. Take it to Twitter.

I can give you 5,413 reasons why Mark Richt won't go.

The Denver Post is delusional at best. Mark Richt will NOT coach anywhere if and when he leaves UGA. His next call will be the ministry - book it.

Has anyone seen the latest William H. Macy movie?

I think it's clear. Mark Bradley was right....Mark Richt is "Yesterdays Man" at Georgia.

Clearly it's 'bizzaro' day on the blog - can only mean one thing- an unranked .500 team is going to dominate an previously undefeated, number 2 ranked team, somewhere in Eastern Alabama

William Neilson Jr. said...

After today, I bet most UGA fans would be willing to pay for Richt's travel to Boulder

Cheers to that TrboDawg! GATA!

I don't really think he would go to Colarado but wouldn't that be something if he left us? It's looking more likely that Ga has decided to keep richt which I think is a good idea, but what if this year has worn on him a little too much?

If he were to leave for another coaching job Miami or even Floridia St is more realistic but I don't think we have to worry about Richt leaving for another coaching job. Unlike a coach like say Nick Saban I don't think Richt would ever leave UGA while under contract to coach at another school.

While there will always be fans that will show his win loss record from the last two years to show he is a bad coach he is not even close to being a bad coach. Look at the complete history of Ga and every head coach we ever had and every win loss season they had and seriously tell me Richt is a bad coach.

Vince Dooley is looked at as our best coach ever simply because he won one National Championship. Just one in his extremely long career and he happened to have the greatest college football player ever on that team. He was a good coach but not as good as Richt in my opinion.

I still think that while we didn't win nat championships I can comfortably say that we had the best team in the nation twice under Mark Richt. 02 and more recently 07. The system doesnt always give us the best teams in the Championship game. Also this season reminds me very much of the 06 season so I am really looking forward to year two under Murray who will be a better college QB than Stafford. Before anyone reminds me I know the 06 team was better than this team record wise I still see some things that are similar.
