Fourth quarter blog

5:42 left in game, Georgia trails 42-31

Georgia has turned it over on downs, at its own 27, and barring a turnover or something miraculous, it is going to fall at No. 2 Auburn.

The stories of the game: Georgia's inability to stop Auburn in the second half and Auburn's onside-kick to start the second half. It was a valiant showing by the Georgia offense, but it also failed to put its foot down in the second half.

I'm going to head down to the field, so this will be it as far as blogging during the game.

8:05 left in fourth quarter, Auburn increases lead to 42-31

Cam Newton hits Philip Lutzenkirchen for a 13-yard touchdown pass, and Georgia is now in dire territory.

It's the first two-possession deficit of the night for Georgia. It hasn't played badly on offense, but that Auburn onside-kick to open the second half is looming large.

Surely the Bulldogs can answer here with a touchdown. But can its defense get a stop on Auburn? It hasn't yet in the second half.

The Georgia defense just looks worn down.

8:22 left in fourth quarter, Georgia still trails 35-31

Auburn has had the ball the entire fourth quarter so far, as Georgia's defense doesn't have an answer for the power running game.

Cameron Newton just converted a third-and-long with a run to a wide-open left side. The contain once again wasn't there for Georgia, which sold out to the pass, for some reason. It's not like the Tigers have done much of that tonight. In fact they didn't do any of it in the third quarter.

It may take a turnover for Georgia to win this. It's not showing any sign of being able to get off the field, and time is starting to work against the Bulldogs.

Booing a hurt player? Classy...

Not that I was ever a fan of Auburn, but they have the WORST program in the SEC. Booing hurt players, throwing punches, cheap shots on Murray, just terrible. I hope Auburn never wins another game, and I hope every fan of Auburn "University" is embarassed.

I have always had a lot of respect for Auburn until this crap! There fans, there coaches, there players. The way they acted really pissed me off! Chiziks not what I thought he was. Fairley should be suspended for the Bama game.

Next year between the hedges, I can't wait!

I hope Saban has someone stand Fairley while another lineman obliterates his knees. Auburn was the better team but they are dirty as hell. I will be rooting for their next 3 opponents!

Man I'm not gonna be able to sleep until I know Murray is ok! He looked good out there but you never know.

I agree with the sentiments above. Auburn - Fairley especially - is a dirty program full of dirty players.

I also have to say I was embarrassed by the fact that our team rushed the field. This is something like the 2nd or 3rd time we've done this since the "celebration." Disturbing lack of control by the coaching staff. And definitely not how I want to see UGA represented.

Having said that, at least our guys aren't throwing punches. Or watching our head coach cheer the team on while it does so. Chizick is truly a classless individual.

And Auburn has been a cheap shot team for some time. The "code reds" and chop blocking they teach/taught. Fairley's cheap shots and driving the QB into the ground (as noted on the broadcast by Danielson). And their association with Cam Newton, who even before the current situation had been involved in a stolen laptop and charges of academic fraud.

Just once I want to hear MR speak his mind about the crappy officials and the cheap shot artist that is Fairley. Too bad he will have time to think about it and then will say the PC thing. I hope the investigators dig up the dirt they need in the next 2 weeks and Auburn has to play Bama without Newton. This crap about his dad acting alone is the biggest line of BS. Danelson was basically an Auburn apologist today.

What Tim said. Dirtiest game I've seen. And chasik seemed that he couldn't care less. They will go down.

Yeah, I totally agree, it seemed like Chizik was encouraging the bad behavior. A total lack of class and respect for your opponent. What a terrible coach and person.

I love they rushed the field. It was their quarterback that had an extremely dirty play on him in the final minutes of the game that was pretty much decided.

A lot of peoples opinion of the whole Auburn Newton situation might change after this crap! Everything about this team is dirty! Chizik cheering his players for personal fouls!!!

Damn even Brandon Spikes would think this team is dirty!

Fairley needs to be suspended for what he did. UGA needs to send a LONG tape of his crap to the SEC office.

And I just got converted to being a Bama fan in 2 weeks. Hope they whoop on Auburn and get some shots on Fairley.

Damn right willb we thought Brandon Spikes was dirty. I can't wait to play this team next year!!!!! No more dirty Fairley or cheatin ass Newton.

I'm really disapointed with Auburn. I've always liked their program, but what the hell has happened over there? Their coach is a dirt bag and most of their players are thugs?!? Newton is just a big guy that is hard to take down, that's it, not that special really.

It was getting annoying hearing the announcers say it was a "feel good story" about him. He has been caught cheating, stealing, and trying to get money from college programs. Feel good indeed.

I don't mind losing sometimes, but good lord, Auburn has sold their soul for an 11-0 season. It's really going to be a shame when it turns into a 0-11 season because their quarterback is a cheat....

What the heck is Chizik chewing anyways? Everytime the camera panned by him, he looked like a dog with peanut butter on the roof of his mouth.

Don't forget about the helmet to helmet hit on Reggie Brown that knocked him out of the game back in 2004.

Yeah, I didn't understand the commentators talking about how Newton was such a "feel good story" and how college football fans everywhere enjoy him being a part of college football. Someone who gets caught stealing, cheating, and probably taking money is not a good story.

Willb said...

I agree anon 8:00, a feel good story???? This is anything but! He cheated and stole at fla and prob tried to get as much money as he could to play college ball! A feel good story I think not!

I hated listening to these announcers for the entire game. Terrible job.

If you go over to the Auburn sites, all of the comments talk about how dirty Georgia plays. UNBELIEVABLE. Did these people even watch the game?

They play dirty on defense, but what is the excuse for our defense. They ran the same plays over and over yet we failed to stop them. Cam is a stud and he only improved his stock by getting into the heads of our coaches. We are so weak in game planning and execution. We have the best receiver in the nation and a vary capable qb, yet with time left in the 1st half we take a knee. Then we get behind to start the 2nd and let them rush like crazy with no answer. I am a Richt fan, but lost a lot of confidence in him after today. In big games we always seem to be playing from behind. Is it coaching, talent, passion, or all of the above?

Yeah, the defense was a real disappointment today. Is it because Grantham needs more time to install the 3-4, or because he doesn't have the right players, or what gives? Oh well, on to Georgia Tech.

Auburn has definitely gotten their money's worth.

I hope the NCAA sticks Auburn for cheating.Asked for money but no money changed hands?please.Diving into a guys knees 2 seconds after he throws it when the game is already over?I hope the SEC office sticks them for that too. That said , our defense has a looong way to go.
