Monday Links (4/20)

Back to the grind... sort of.

After taking in easily one of the 20 or 30 best Journey cover bands in the Southeast over the weekend, I'm back at work... for a few hours. Then I'm hitting the road once again to head north. I'll be in DC for a couple of days, visiting the folks in Delaware for a couple more, then heading up to the Big Apple to cover this year's NFL draft.

But fear not -- despite my travels, I'll still have plenty of blog updates. In addition to our usual daily links and the in-depth draft coverage, we'll also be kicking off a series today in which we'll look at each SEC team, along with Georgia's three other BCS-conference opponents, by checking in with some of college football's best beat writers. Stay tuned later today for our first two installments, featuring Auburn and Georgia Tech. If you look to your right, you'll see the complete schedule for when each team will be posted.

And, of course, I'll have a handful of other postings throughout the week, so ideally, the blog won't miss a beat, even if I'm spending a lot more quality time with my car.

So, with that, let's get to the links...

-- SEC Rivals is calling Georgia's 2009 schedule the toughest in the nation. Hard to argue considering the Dawgs get just one non-BCS opponent all year.

-- I'm guessing a lot of you have read this already, but the AJC's Michael Carvell is encouraging Mark Richt to break a recruiting rule for a good reason.

-- Rontavious Wooten plans to make an immediate impact upon his arrival at Georgia, writes Marc Weiszer.

-- B.J. Butler became Georgia's fourth commitment for the 2010 class.

-- Recruiting issues have cropped up on Facebook lately, and the NCAA is now trying to figure out how to deal with them.

-- The Dallas Morning News takes a look at the draft status of Georgia linebacker Dannell Ellerbe.

-- The Buffalo News says that this year's crop of QBs in the draft, including Matthew Stafford, won't be able to match the success enjoyed by Joe Flacco and Matt Ryan a year ago.

-- The Baltimore Sun talks to NFL Network's Mike Mayock, who gives his explanation of the differences between Matthew Stafford and Mark Sanchez.

-- The Detroit Free Press gives Stafford some props for his work on the Jimmy Fallon show last week.

-- Battle Hymn Notes proves they aced the analogies section of their SATs by identifying the MLB equivilent for a number of SEC football programs.

-- The Diamond Dogs couldn't get their offense going to close out the sweep against Arkansas.

-- Courtney Kupets finished out her Georgia career by becoming the most decorated gymnast in NCAA history.

-- So a tale of corrupt politics in Chicago should be no big news... but this one involves former Georgia basketball player Tony Cole and adds yet another entry when you Google the words "Jim Harrick" and "scandal."

-- The Reno Gazette Journal looks at the rising salaries of college coaches, Mark Fox in particular.

-- No football or basketball going on, but still plenty of sports action for UGA: The women's tennis team won the SEC championship over Tennessee; the equestrian team won its second straight national championship; the men's golf team easily won its SEC title over the weekend; and the softball team swept its series against Auburn.

-- Former UGA golfer Brendon Todd aced the same hole twice at Jennings Mill Country Club over the weekend on the Nationwide Tour.

-- We've reached the final pairing in the annual Name of the Year tournament. Sadly, Fred Munzenmaier didn't make the cut. (h/t Paul)

-- Playboy lists Georgia as one of its top party schools in America -- but it fell three spots behind Florida. Miami was No. 1.

-- The Onion's AV Club has a list of 22 terrible babysitters from movies and TV. I would have ranked Uncle Buck a lot higher.

-- And finally, I came across this profile of Yogi Berra that ran in the New York Times last week, and it's a fantastic look at one of the truly endearing figures in sports history. It's a great read.

Yo David....is Carvell now finished with the AJC? He had somewhat of a "goodbye" blog to the readers.

He is not finished, but he has been moved from recruiting to high schools. The AJC dramatically restructured beginning this week, with Carvell and Chip Towers being among the most inexplicable victims. I'll have more on this tomorrow.
