Mettenberger to LSU

Former Georgia quarterback Zach Mettenberger is returning to the SEC - but an awkward reunion would have to wait until 2013, or the SEC championship game.

Mettenberger told recruiting sites on Monday that he has committed to LSU. The Watkinsville native has spent the fall semester at Butler Community College in Kansas, where he led his team to the junior college national title game.

Mettenberger plans to enroll at LSU for the spring semester, and will have three years of eligibility remaining. That's because he redshirted his freshman season at Georgia, before being dismissed following spring practice.

Georgia turned out OK, of course, with Aaron Murray, who won the job out of spring practice anyway. Mettenberger was spotted around Athens a few times this year, including the sideline at Sanford Stadium during the Georgia Tech game.

But if he ever faces his former team, it will almost certainly not be in Athens: Georgia is scheduled to play in Baton Route in 2013, and LSU returns the trip in 2014, by which time Mettenberger will presumably be gone. (Barring a medical redshirt.) The teams could also square off in the SEC championship game.

SEC Championship game. I pray that we'll be back in there in the next three years!

Anyway, his presence at the GA Tech game was pretty bizarre. Seth, do you know why he was there? Supporting his former teammates? Visiting friends or family? I heard he was with recruits, I really don't like the sound of that situation.

Good for him. Hope it works out for that kid.

Seth, I was also hoping you could get some info on the JUCO players Georgia is looking to sign. We need some immediate impact players, especially on defense. I can wait until the next mailbag. Thanks!

He was spotted around Athens? Specifically on the sideline at the Tech game? WTH is that all about? I thought he had been "dismissed" from the team? I think his hanging around the sideline and the team speaks more to what MAY BE wrong in Athens than just strength and conditioning and stuff like that.

That's absurd.

Forget about Mettenberger! He would of been an ok second string QB at Ga but I like Mason now.

From people I have talked to that have actually known Mettenberger he is not a good guy. He is not the kind of person we want on the team. Everyone throws out the word "thug" whenever one of our players gets a speeding ticket but Mettenberger truly is a bad guy.

Aaron Murray is a great kid and a far superior QB. Also after seeing them both I think that Murray might even have a better arm than Mattenberger.

Nice to see the kid landed on his feet and even better that he landed in the west not the east

Headed to Athens??

Why wouldn't Mettenberger go to LSU? I never thought he'd land anywhere else once they offered him.

Couldn't UGA face him in 2013 if he has 3 years left?

Ben- You are an idiot.

I hope Mettenberger becomes the No.1 at LSU and he and Murray square off in Baton Rouge in 2013.
