Where things stand: Georgia's hoops resume'

Mark Fox pointed out a few weeks ago that his Georgia men’s basketball team doesn’t have a bad loss. And it still doesn’t, though not for an apparent lack of trying, judging by all the close calls.

Still, while not rolling over opponents, the Bulldogs are at least rolling up wins, and have a good chance to be 11-2 once SEC play begins.

And in case you didn’t notice, not having any bad losses puts Georgia in elite company in the SEC.

Tennessee, which for awhile ranked No. 1 in the RPI, just dropped consecutive games to Oakland and Charlotte. Suffice to say, the Vols no longer rank No. 1 in the RPI.

Florida (8-2) just beat Kansas State for an impressive win, but it also owns a loss to Central Florida. Yes, UCF is still one of the nation’s lone unbeaten teams, but still.

Every team in the West has at least one embarrassing loss. Ole Miss may be the class of that division right now, but the Rebels (7-2) don’t own a quality win, unless you count Penn State. And I don’t.

Then there’s Auburn, which at this point may welcome the NCAA vacating its entire season. How bad are the Tigers? Their RPI rank as of Sunday was 328 – out of 348 teams in Division I. The Tigers have lost at home to Presbyterian, UNC Asheville, Samford, Campbell and Jacksonville. The two teams they did beat are a combined 3-17.

Auburn by itself may drag down the SEC’s rank in the RPI one or two spots. Seriously, the Tigers are that bad. I can imagine every SEC coach with an NCAA-quality team being on the phone to Mike Slive, begging him to connect Cecil Newton to the Tigers’ basketball program. (Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear the Tigers have anybody who is worth more than a scholarship.)

Back to the East:

South Carolina (7-2) has on paper the league’s most acceptable two losses, on the road to Ohio State and Michigan State. But the young Gamecocks were thoroughly thumped in both games, and pretty much non-competitive on Saturday at Ohio State. The Gamecocks don’t really own a quality win yet, unless you count Clemson and Western Kentucky. I don’t.

Vanderbilt (8-2) has largely taken care of business, losing just to Missouri and West Virginia, while knocking off North Carolina and others.

Kentucky (8-2) has losses are to Connecticut and North Carolina. It also defeated Notre Dame on a neutral court, which Georgia did not.

So basically, the East has been respectable, with some rather large blemishes courtesy of Tennessee.

What does this mean for Georgia? It means if the Bulldogs, whose current RPI rank is 48, can take care of business the next four games, then its NCAA resume’ should be in solid shape when Kentucky comes to town on Jan. 8.

So far, the Bulldogs haven’t done anything to really make a statement. But they also haven’t hurt themselves. And the way things have gone in the SEC, that in itself may be enough of a statement.

Seth could Ga be ranked heading into SEC play?

Seth Emerson, this is why you are The Blog Man.

Seth Emerson,

I’ve read your piece on Mike Bobo, and now I’ve read this piece on Bulldogs’ Men’s Basketball.

In this piece, you write that Georgia has no win over a good opponent, and you go on an on here about teams who have not won games against good opponents.

Then, by start contrast – both written the same exact day – there is not 1 word about Georgia beating any good opponent in football.

On a day, I point out, which found Georgia Bulldogs Football Coaches blowing-off a practice day today, playing a Fun-Filled-Day of Grass-Basketball.

Why isn’t playing football fun ?

Why did not say a word about the quality of the Bulldogs’ wins in football ?

Sure, you took a shot at the Colorado loss.

3-9 Louisiana Lafayette

6-6 vols

2-10 intramural Vandie

6-6 Kentucky

1-10 Idaho State

6-6 Georgia tek

These are the six (6) “wins” by The Georgia Bulldogs’ Football Team led by Redshirt Freshman Quarterback Aaron Murray, who loses all his receivers off this team, the vast majority of his Offensive Line, and returns the tandem, cough cough, running game with no fullback recruited in 5 years to replace both leaving.

QUALITY WINS

This is your point here about Georgia Bulldogs’ Men’s Basketball Team.

Same day, different Song about the football team.

Why is that ?

NOT 1 WINNING RECORD TEAM

Georgia Bulldogs’ Football Team beat not 1 team with a winning record, even.

Two 10-Loss teams, one 9-Loss team, and three 6-6 teams.

This is whom it is we beat in Football this entire season.

Crappy.

47 Losses by the 6 “teams” we got “wins” over this season.

24-47 the record of the teams Mike Bobo & Aaron Murray have “wins” over.

This is a biased, obviously, piece pandering to the Richt-0-Files trying to build up Mike Bobo bragging about his record against Weak Opponents, everyone of the 6 “wins.”

When on the same day, the same analysis is made about The Georgia Bulldogs’ Men’s Basketball Team.

Why is Georgia ranked the # 56 football team in the nation with the # 45 easiest strength of schedule this season, in a division of a conference which has no good football team, while you again analyze that about the SEC West in Men’s Basketball again today here.

We did not beat anyone.

That is why.

Seth Emerson, now I know you knew I was going to come back in here and say this exactly about your 2 pieces today, one bragging about Mike Bobo’s Offense which by the way ended up # 73 in the nation in even getting 1st Downs.

You said Notre Dame was not any good. I said they are an excellent basketball team. Temple obviously is an excellent basketball team too. They both beat us, with RPI ratings tonight of # 24 and # 19, respectively.

You tried to lay the excuse off on us today in your piece defending Mike Bobo, saying that AJ Green was SUSPENDED ( Whose fault is that ? That is an excuse or an indictment of our football program ? Which is it ? Excuse ? Perfect example of what is and has been going on around here the last 5 years in football ? )

AJ Green was suspended for the 1st four games this season, you write today Seth Emerson.

We lost 6 games this season, 3 With AJ Green, 3 Without AJ Green.

And, if Mike Bobo is so much better With AJ Green, what in the blazes is he going to do next season against a far tougher SOS than # 45 this season with no good win Without AJ Green, Seth Emerson, sir ?

While it is true that the Georgia Bulldogs Men’s Basketball team has not beat a good opponent and that in fact, as in Football, the best win is over Georgia tek – who is ranked the # 112 best men’s basketball team and the # 71 worst football team.

The only win by the football team on the road was a crappy 6-6 Kentucky football team with a new coach, Joker, who by the way is the # 72 ranked football team.

At least we beat Georgia tek at Georgia tek in men’s basketball.

I am not asking for preferential treatment by you Seth Emerson for the Georgia Men’s Basketball Team; I am pointing out that on the same day you compared 2 teams of Georgia’s in 2 completely divergent disparaging manners.

1. To build up a 6-6 team who beat no one all season long.
2. To bring down a 7-2 team who you do say beat no one, yet.

Non-sequitur :

Seth Emerson, that is patently unfair and completely a Non-sequitur on the same day about the same school to analyze one one-way and the other the other-way.

If Georgia football beat no one the entire regular season now over and complete and won only 1 game away from home all season against a complete and utter nobody, and on the same day you write that the men’s basketball team beat no one of consequence, it is a Non sequitur to conclude then Seth Emerson that Mike Bobo is great and that the men’s basketball program is not.

In fact, it is a Non-sequitur to state that Mike Bobo is great because he had AJ Green this year and thus deserves another year to prove what he cannot do without him when he lost 3 games with him and lost 3 games without him.

You can go spin your statistics however you want Seth Emerson; Georgia in football is the # 73 team in the nation this entire football season at even getting a damn 1st Down.

You are pandering to the Richt-0-Files and there are Damn Few of them with a 4-Loss Average per season each of the last five (5) years now and counting with next season assured of more of the same against a tougher SOS and without an entire host of players Aaron Murray relied upon to win the 6 crappy “wins” he did post against no one.

Note too, please Seth Emerson, that while our men’s basketball program Is Young, that we have put together some of the most impressive recruiting classes under Mark Fox. While in direct contrast once again, Mark Richt’s 2009 recruiting class is gone no longer on the roster, the 2010 recruiting class was Mark Richt’s worst ever and that the average ranking nationally at their position for 2011 recruiting class stands at # 37. The average recruit for Mark Richt 2011 is ranked # 37 at his position nationally. This means there are 37 teams with a better recruit at their position than Mark Richt has for 2011.

Your 2 pieces today, Seth Emerson one on our football team and the other on our men’s basketball team are Non-sequitur.

I believe Murray is losing one of his oline starters in Boling. He is not losing everybody! He's losing Boling, Green, Durham, and Chapas as far as starters.

Only Green is unreplaceable.

GridWizzard,

Yes, Seth Emerson's analysis of men's basketball is flawed.

Especially, glaringly so, compared to his analysis of football on this same day in this same paper :

http://www.macon.com/2010/12/19/1382718/well-worn-bobo-doesnt-feel-vindicated.html

Defending Mike Bobo, as Seth Emerson most assuredly is today in his other piece.

Georgia is # 47 in RPI today against SOS # 87.

Dayton has 3 losses, all to 3 good teams. Dayton also has 2 good wins. Dayton is therefore a reasonable team, and has proven that already.

Penn State, despite Seth Emerson's musings to the contrary, is a reasonable win by Ole Miss as well.

Seth Emerson is trying to bring down Ole Miss.

# 39 RPI Ole Miss

But, we forget how much Seth Emerson knows about men's basketball.

Ole Miss is not # 39 in the RPI, if you read Seth Emerson today.

In fact, The entire SEC is not very good in men's basketball, according to this piece by Seth Emerson.

In fact, in The SEC East :

# 3 RPI Florida

# 7 RPI Kentucky

#14 RPI vols

#15 RPI Vandie

#47 RPI Georgia

#81 RPI South Carolina

South Carolina, Seth Emerson, sir, is the DEAD LAST WORST SEC East men's basketball team.

Who the heck has South Carolina beat Seth Emerson ?

# 147 Climpson Farmers of the ACC

That is a good win, I suppose ? Crap. Climpson Farmers are not a good men's basketball team.

Neither is Weak Forest any good at men's basketball.

Florida State, Georgia tek and Maryland also are no good in men's basketball.

Virginia as well is not any good at men's basketball.

As a matter of fact, none of these 6 ACC teams is any good at anything.

Never.

It is a crappy little ACC conference that is parity because these 6 schools cannot do anything in any sport.

Yet, we have to live with pieces like this one here from Seth Emerson, putting down The SEC for that which he would not enjoy writing a piece in exactly the same fashion about HALF the ACC.

When, you step outside this bias box of Seth Emerson in this piece, what you see very clearly is that he refuses to use the same analysis on the same day about other topics he writes about and fails to point out then they too have beaten no one, nor even looking at their teams have good players.

Georgia does have good players in men's basketball.

Why not say that ?

It's true isn't it ?

It is like saying in football, we DON'T have good players, because we do not. Nor have we had it going on in recruiting for football 2009, 2010 and now 2011; while the same exact years Mark Fox has it going on in a great way in men's basketball recruiting.

Mark Fox has his program LIGHT YEARS ahead of our football program here, for all the very reasons listed in this piece by Seth Emerson today - but, he doesn't want to say that with the vocal minority in this blog Richt-0-Files.

What you get when you pander to Richt-0-Files (both of them) is a large contingency saying, excuse me, we beat no one in football and football season is over.

What they don't like is that what I told them all preseason, is exactly what they freaking got.

Precisely.

I already told you who Mark Richt loses off this football team.

Your list is incomplete.

He also faces a far tougher schedule next season than schedule # 45 easiest in the nation this year.

And, he does it with a crappy now 2009 recruiting class all gone off the roster, a 2010 recruiting class the dead last worst ever by Mark Richt, and a 2011 recruiting class that has all 16 available scholarships today already committed, yet they average the # 37 recruit at their position nationally.

The difference in this in football and this in men's basketball, is that Mark Fox Can Recruit. He has players. He has a ton of good players. He adds more than he loses every year. Mark Richt has added back less than he lost EVERY YEAR - all 10 years here.

Which is why we are where we are in football, and why we remain there next year.

Just sign your posts, Richt-0-File bragging about Mark Richt having a 4-Loss a Season average all 5 of the last 5 years 4-Loss seasons.

BuLLdawg our schedule WILL NOT be harder next year. We trade Arkansas the second best SEC team for OLE MISS the second worst team in the SEC. Also for your information the SEASON is not OVER. If Tech, Tenn and Kentucky win their games we beat 3 winning teams. Since you picked those teams to win bowl games that makes your post another non sequitur.

BuLLdawg-When Mark Fox has won 2 SECs, finished in the top ten 6 times, 4 times in the top 6 including a runner-up finish then come back and argue this baloney. Until then remember it's better for people to think you're a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
