Nick Williams looking to transfer (updated)

The Liberty Bowl will apparently be Nick Williams’ final game in a Georgia uniform.

The junior from Bainbridge intends to transfer.

Williams has shifted between linebacker and safety the past few years, and the lack of a defined position has been a sore point for him, according to the source.

Williams has played eight games this year, with no starts, recording three tackles. He started the year at strong safety, then moved to middle linebacker, a scenario that also occurred his freshman season.

Update: 10:27 p.m. eastern

UGA has confirmed that Williams has been "given permission" to talk to other schools about transferring, according to associate athletics director Claude Felton. Williams hasn't officially told the team he's leaving, according to Felton, but he'll be given his release if he does.

I think transferring sounds like the best deal for him. I remember reading quotes from him early in the year that sounded like he wasn't really on board with his coaches. That makes for a bad situation for all those involved.

Well, either he wasn't on the same page with the coaches or he was a good athlete but not that great at playing the game. You don't get that much consideration if you can't get after it a little.

Maybe he just knows that this ship is tanking really fast. 6 - 6 is a bad situation and still losing to the Gators every year.

Rick.......truth hurts worse than sand huh????? Please come out of denial my friend and dont try to blow smoke up our rear ends.

Williams hasn't produced and helped contribute to 6-6. Seriously, where will he wind up? A smaller program than Georgia that's for sure.

Nick was in his third year and and was still only third string, with 2 freshman(Ogletree and Shawn Willisms) ahead of him on the depth chart. I'm sure the coaches would like to thank him for no longer taking up a scholarship that was useless.

another example of a guy that could probably contribute on the other side of the ball and added to the growing list of players that have wasted their careers because the coaches don't know where to put them....brandon miller, mikey henderson, marcus howard, kiante tripp, richard samuel, etc.

Anon at 11:25 , all knowing wise one - where would you have played those players, Howard was Sugar Bowl MVP and last time I checked playing in The NFL. The other guys guys Millerf wasn't very good, the pros couldn't do anything with him either and Henderson was a situational player at 5' 7" and 155 lbs. They did use him to beat Bama in overtime( Richt has only lost to Bama once in 10 years) and he was one of the top punt returners in the SEC. They tried Tripp on both sides of the ball but he didn't play that well( do you even watch the games, I do) and couldn't find a starting position. Samuel's career isn't over so jurys still out. Try actually watching the games and it will help with your understanding and enjoyment of what's going on.

Nick Williams has been quite vocal about his lack of playing time or being played out of position . So it does naturally beg the question, are our coaches not very good at evaluating talent and putting players in the best place they can be to contribute or is Nick Williams maybe just not that good? My guess is it is the latter in this instance, but you'll never hear a coach say so (at least I hope not) and our inquiring reporter Seth and other UGA beat writers will probably have to treat this subject gingerly as well.

Well one would think if you are on a 6 and 6 team and not cracking into the starting line..... you might not be that good!

Yeah nobody ever transfers out because of no playing time and becomes a great player somewhere else. Just doesn't happen. So far this year he's made 3 tackles. But good luck to him wherever he goes, I don't think we'll miss him on the field.

I'm pretty sure this has more to do with Nick not being as good as he thinks he is as opposed to our coaches not knowing what to do with him.

Where are all these cases of our our coaches not knowing what to do with talent? Give me some examples.

Two years ago we won ten games. Three years ago we won eleven games and are ranked number two. Two bad years and the coaches are all stupid?

In all of Richts years his subpar seasons were in QB transition years. 8 wins in Greenes first year. 9 wins in Staffords first year. 8 wins in Cox's only year, and prob 7 wins in Murrays first year. Look at Greene and Staffords second seasons. The two best Ga seasons since the early 80's. I see big things in Murrays second season.

Also look at the years right before Ga won it's national championship. They were worse than these years. If it was up to fans like you guys Dooley would of been fired and we would of never had those glory years with Herschel.

Nick Williams was a physical Beast would have been perfect somewhere on field its you coaches didn't know were to use him.
