Thursday Wrap Up (9/4)

Not a ton of on-field info from today's meeting with Mark Richt, but a few interesting nuggets:

-- Apparently I've got some competition in the blogosphere from Richt, himself. UGA launched MarkRicht.com, a site dedicated to Georgia football on which Richt will blog weekly. He admitted he doesn't really know what a blog is, but he'll be doing it anyway with the help of UGA's staff.

The site is already up and running, but many new additions will be coming along the way, Richt said. He'll likely have his first blog update this Sunday.

-- Perhaps an interesting first blog item from Richt would be this: He admitted he'd like for the Bulldogs to play the occasional Thursday game.

The question came up because both Central Michigan and South Carolina will be coming off Thursday contests before playing Georgia. Richt said he'd like to have the Dawgs open a season on the road on a Thursday night but said the university would not agree to it.

"Georgia is not going to play Thursdays," Richt said. "We'll leave it at that."

He went on to speculate a bit further.

"There's no way you could do a home game," Richt said. "But it wouldn't hurt my feelings if we opened the season with an Oklahoma State game at their place on a Thursday. It's not going to happen though."

-- Wide receiver Kenneth Harris is listed as doubtful for Saturday's game.

-- DT Kade Weston has shown improvement this week, Richt said, and could return to practice Monday. He expects to play next week against South Carolina.

-- Richt said safety Quintin Banks could be back for the Dawgs' Sept. 27 date with Alabama. Richt said fullback Brannan Southerland could play on special teams in that game, too, but would not return to the offense prior to the Tennessee game two weeks later.

-- Richt confirmed Clint Boling would be the starting right tackle against Central Michigan while Kiante Tripp will get the start at left tackle. Vince Vance, Chris Davis and Cordy Glenn will complete the line as they did in Week 1.

-- Logan Gray has not been running the scout team despite his athleticism and ability to get out of the pocket. Richt said even Gray does little to accurately simulate Central Michigan's Dan Lefevour, so the Bulldogs' first real taste of the Chippewas' dual threat will come Saturday.

-- Richt said he is getting closer to making an announcement regarding the fate of suspended players Donavon Baldwin and Jeff Hensen. In fact, he noted, that might be in his blog. (He was kidding, I think.)
