Moreno Named Candidate for Walker Award
Georgia redshirt sophomore Knowshon Moreno has been named a candidate for the 2008 Doak Walker Award, given to the nation s top collegiate running back.
Moreno is one of 43 candidates for the award and one of only five running backs from the Southeastern Conference.
After leading the Bulldogs with 1,334 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2007, Moreno scored three touchdowns on only eight carries during Georgia s 2008 season opening win over Georgia Southern. Moreno became the first Bulldog since Herschel Walker in 1982 to rush for 100 or more yards in five consecutive games last year and was second in the Southeastern Conference for yards per game (102.6) in 2007.
Garrison Hearst is the only Bulldog to win the Doak Walker Award after earning the honor in 1992.
The Guaranty Bank SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will select the semifinalists on November 10 and the finalists will be announced on
November 24. A second vote will be cast beginning on December 1 to determine the recipient. The National Selection Committee consists of
former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members and selected special representatives.
The recipient of the 2008 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on ESPN on The Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards on Thursday, December 11. The Doak Walker Award Presentation Banquet will be held at The Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas, on Friday, February 6, 2009.
