Mark Fox: 'This is where I'm gonna coach'
Georgia men’s basketball coach Mark Fox confirmed that he and athletics director Greg McGarity have discussed a new contract. Fox said they had an “initial conversation,” and would “finish up our discussion” once offseason matters such as Leslie’s status were concluded.
McGarity, who was sitting a few feet away, nodded in agreement.
“I don’t want anyone thinking I’m leaving anywhere, because this is where I’m gonna coach,” Fox said.
His current deal pays him a base salary of $1.3 million through the 2015 season. That annual salary puts him in the lower half of SEC head basketball coaches.
Georgia went 21-12 this past year, Fox’s second at the school. That followed up a 14-17 opening year, after Fox was hired from Nevada.
Among the new hires around the region and SEC, Fox said he knows Georgia Tech’s Brian Gregory and Arkansas' Mike Anderson. He spoke with Gregory at the Final Four.
“Brian’s a good man,” Fox said. “He’s been a friend for awhile. I think he’s excited for his opportunity over there at Tech.”

FIRE BRAD STEVENS!
What about Arkansas' Mike Anderson? Does he know him?
UGA should have hired Shaka Smart a few years ago when he worked under Oliver Purnell at Clem and Son. Now there's a guy who can coach and never looks clueless on court side unlike Fox.
Fox will head to NC State. Notice, Fox has not signed a contract, rumors buzzing all over the web once Smart turned the job down. McGarity won't top $1.5 million, NC State will double that. Plus incredible facilities. Can't blame Fox for leaving.
You mean the same NC State that just hired Mark Gottfried to be their coach? Nice try Anon.
If you're gonna troll, at least try not to suck at it.
Fox would be crazy to leave UGA. He already knows UGA pays millions for a coach who is a choke artist in football. He knows he can milk UGA pretty well.
Anonymous has so many personalities, I'm getting a headache.
"UGA should have hired Shaka Smart a few years ago when he worked under Oliver Purnell at Clem"
What, when he was 29 and had no head coaching experience? Come on, Tech Troll. Your teams' horrible play is messing with your brain.
Why didn't YOU hire Smart a few years ago, Techie? You get "Idiot of the Year" Award for your poor effort. This makes you eligible for the Darwin Award!!
