Leslie to test the NBA waters

Travis Leslie is indeed entering the NBA draft, but he's not closing the door on a return to Georgia.

The Georgia junior will not sign with an agent, preserving the right to come back for his senior year. Leslie has until May 8 to pull his name from the draft.

"Travis has exercised his right to 'test the waters' as a junior," head coach Mark Fox said in a statement. "We will help him manage that process in a timely manner."

Aran Smith, the president of NBAdraft.net, said scouts have mixed impressions of Leslie, a 6-foot-4 swingman.

"Leslie is probably the most explosive athlete in all of college basketball. He showed some development as the season progressed but remains a bubble first rounder at best. Scouts aren't sure he has the feel for the game or offensive skills and consider him to be more athlete than basketball player at this point. He could sneak into the late first round as all it takes is one team to like you, as they say. However at 6'4, he is more likely to be a second rounder this year according to scouts."

Wow Seth, for someone that doesn't "have the time to be a forum moderator" you sure did rip down a post about not feeding the trolls pretty quickly. What gives? Do you need the trolls? Has buLLdawg and anon really been a secret passed down from Hale to you about keeping traffic up? What's the deal? I've always been a good commenter.

What? Didn't take anything down. Whoever posted it must've done it themselves.

My apologies to you then. I put it up so something happened, it wasn't anything profane or anything like that. I take your word for it and assume it's an internet glitch. Sorry to accuse you (good thing i let the rage die down). I flail my back with a whip in apologies.

Yeah, I saw your post and didn't see anything wrong with it. Must be some glitch. Just post it again.

While I don't begrudge any kid following his dreams, I think Leslie would be better served coming back. All you ever hear about him is how great of an athlete he is and how high he can get up. It's never about his shooting or his defense. EVERYONE in the NBA is a great athlete.

Being drafted in the 2nd round is a crapshoot at best. Yes, All-Star's have come out of the 2nd round, but more often than not they're out of the league before their first contract is up.

You never get to get your senior year back.

Many Juniors that are likely 2nd round picks will declare for the draft and not sign an agent. They will be able to be coached up by NBA scouts and coaches and told what skills the need to improve on to make it in the next level. My guess is Leslie is doing this and will be back.

I've never understood why fans get upset when kids leave early(Anon 12:36). If some company had identified you in college and offered you a 7 digit salary you would have taken it and left college in a heartbeat. I know I would. It doesn't make you any less of a Dawg, and it's no different for them.

Anyways, I think Leslie will come back. I really think he'd be best served by coming back and improving his game. Plus he'll get an opportunity to be the man on this team.

I was right about Leslie, knew he wouldn't pass up millions to play for a coach with a 3-10 top 50 rpi record.
