Let's do a mailbag, shall we?

OK, so you're still angry, you're still upset. I'm here to help.

Send me your questions, either via e-mail, or in the comments section below, and I'll post a mailbag once there are enough. And please, since I'm not in any decision-making capacity at UGA, please don't ask the why-isn't-so-and-so-fired questions.

Anything else, fire away.

Seth,

Do you see any changes in the offensive staff? Not necessarily mass firings but a potential shakeup? I have seen our RB's woefully underperform so wondering if a former WR like McLendon is really up to this task?

Also favorite dish in Athens? Mine is the mac & cheese at 5 star day.

With Joe T heading up the new S&C program, it looks like there will be much harder work in the weight room and training facilities. Besides the obvious help to the OL, who do you think is going to benefit the most? I think C Washington could take on the JH role if he got stronger and more aggressive, getting DeAngelo Tyson bigger would be huge, and of course more physical secondary would make a big difference.

Seth-

What's your thoughts from the tweets/quote below?

Freudian slip from Crowell? Asked if UGA's record concerning, 'Really, I don't how they're going to be when I get there.'

Would you say that's really promising for Georgia, especially since Alabama just signed a RB (4 star) for their team?

I honestly believe the biggest thing hurting us is our O-line and running game. If we can get those two fixed, we'll be much better off.

Do you think CMR sees the writing on the wall and will take back the play calling for 2011 in an effort to save his job and put the offensive responsibilities squarely on his shoulders, for better or for worse?

We've had several chop block penalties on the offensive line this year, with the last being in the bowl game. As much as most Georgia fans complained about Fairley (me included) the offensive line has played pretty dirty this season while being one of the most underachieving units in recent memory. Are the chop blocks being taught by Searels or another coach? Are the players taking it upon themselves (multiple times this year)? Replays have shown they are definitely intentional.

Seth,

Why did we not ask for a measurement on the 4th and inches before we rushed the FG team on? We've done this earlier where Murray scored on a run and we tried to kick a FG but they stopped us just before the snap to review the play. I'm a fan of the hurry up offense, but not the hurry up field goal kicking. If Richt ever wondered why folks berate him with the name Field Goal Jesus, there's 2 examples.

Seth,

What's the mood like around the Athletic Department?

Have you seen Bobo crying and carrying a box with all his stuff?

I'm staying near DuPont circle tonight and jonesing for some clam chowder - suggestions?

I'd be interested in WHAT changes CMR is considering - very specific ones.

Seth,
Watching this team from across the country on TV, I get the feeling they have an unearned swagger about them. To me they seem to go into every game expecting to win based on the name on their jersey, and not the effort they put forward. Am I completely off with this view? I think these guys (the defensive backs especially) need to be knocked down a few pegs.

Seth.... Clemson fired their offensive guy Billy Napier. They seem committed to get it right over there. Is Richt totaly against making anymore changes within his staff ?

Seth, Is CMR in good standing with the water girl? Should we adress this Question to Howdy Dowdle?

DCDawg said...

Have the dawgs officially been awarded the Fulmer Cup yet? The outcome seemed in doubt last week, but a bowl week loss combined with news of Dowtin's previous arrest ensured Georgia finished with a 2:1 arrest-to-win ratio. Isn't this the most notable accomplishment of the season?

Do you think CMR will stick to his word to stay until the GA people get tired of him?

Why is it that Ealey seems to be on the receiving end of these player punches, gouges, etc? Is he just wrong place wrong time, or does his style of play cause the other team to want to go after him.
Clearly it isn't sore losing, since we haven't won a game where I've seen him take the brunt of the opposing team after the whistle.

We've blamed everyone else, why not the backup Dawg?

Since Joe T is in charge of S&C now, will mat drills still happen in Feb? Was that just VH's thing, or could we see that continue under Joe T? Just wondering.

Seth,

Is it true that you've been laying wast all over town with UGA coeds? Also, I'd like to hear your take on the recent Florida hirings.

I don't really want CMR to throw anybody in particular under the bus, but I get sick of hearing him say the "effort was there" or "we fought really hard". BS. Effort implies heart/guts, etc. Watching our OL get whipped by CFU's DL shows we have none. WE don't have a guy that is determined to whip his man's a** or die trying. AS for the fighting, I guess we do have guys taking their cheap shots and getting the 15 yard penalties cause they can't whup their man during the play.

Seth,

I'd be interested to hear if you have learned anything from Joe T about any changes in program/philosophy he plans to make. After all, aside from the Mat Drills, S&C is kind of a 'black box' to most fans. I think it'd be a good get on your part to be able to inform readers of your blog on what the routine is like, and what these players go through just to be a part of the Georgia football program.

last year Richt said that if we could improve on the penalties, kickoff coverage and turnover ratio then we could be a much better team. he would say that "the ball just didn't fall our way". well we were better in all 3 areas and still sucked. what do you think his excuse will be this year??

Seth,

When will UGA publicly ban Garner and Searels from athens. Also do you ever check out the blog www.onlyina.blogspot.com. They usually have insightful stuff of UGA and of the life of Slic Rick

1. Given Richt's aversion to change and the fact our systemic failure did NOT happen overnight, are there any objective factors one can hang their hat on that better days are ahead under his stewardship?

2. Given the realistic possibility that 2011 will be a so so year at best, why wait for the inevitable tough decision, especially if UGA goes 8-5 or 9-4 next year with SEC losses to Tenn, SC, FL, and AU?

3. Realistically, UGA football program is no better than 7th in the SEC and our competition is headed in a different direction. Hasn't Richt been given/or given out more than his fair share of "get out jail free" cards (pun intended).

4. Given the current state of the program, why schedule Boise State to open the 2011 season? If UGA were to get beat soundly, all it will do is make a bad situation significantly worse!

5. Ignoring the 2011 recruits (who realistically will have minimal impact on the 2011 season), is there a group of players who can realistically step up and become first team all SEC performers? Losing Green and Durham and Houston will have a huge impact.

Am I senile or did Richt run a version of the hurry up offense back when he arrived in Athens? It just blows my mind how conservative this offense has become. Also, any chance evil Richt ever returns? It's like Richt and his staff are afraid to impose their will on their opponents.

Hopefully I'm not repeating. With all the absurd amounts of money being given to coordinators in the SEC, do you think the Dawgs would pony up and pay a Mike Leach type coordinator enough to bring a dynamic offense to Athens?

Seth, Any truth to the rumors of Noel Johnson from Fayetteville, GA transferring to UGA from Clemson?

How about a response to Tony BHart's Ajc article about Richt and what the Dawg Nation wants to hear....

RabidDawg said...

Hey Seth, this past Saturday was certainly frustrating for all Dawg fans and I am sure nobody feels worse about the effort than Richt and team.

I was going to say this is clearly the worst performance of CMR's UGA career, however, upon revisiting those games I thought I had obliterated with a substantial amount of alcohol, I am reminded by such gems as the Bama and UF 08 debacles, AU 04, UT/Vandy in 06, which were the first 2 losses that year, and any number of the catastrophic failures in both 2009 and 2010. I mean the players displayed a level of apathy that one would normally expect of an non-AQ school led by a disgraced coach - oh wait, that's right, that's the profile of the team that we couldn't score more than 6 effing points against in a nationally televised event...

I am slowly coming to terms with the fact that we couldn't drop the hammer on a team whose previous signature 2010 win was against either ECU or Southern Miss, and am only now able to think beyond the same question that has run through my head since Friday afternoon: WTF?,WTF?,WTF?...

While I won't ask any questions about coaching changes, per your request, I do believe if Richt doesn't do something about the OL and RBs he has pretty much sealed his own 2011 fate.

Personally I would like to see CMR take back the play calling, drop Bobo back to QB coach/Asst OC, relegate Garner to recruiting only, no D coaching, and fire Searles and McKlendon..., but that is just my two cents - much easier to say from the couch than Butts Mehre.

Question wise, knowing you have considerable familiarity with a program seemingly destined for eternal mediocrity, i.e. the lamecocks, how does one regain focus in times mired by such abysmal play? Hookers? Mexican Sensimilla? Start spending all day at the Dog Track?

I for one am going to turn to hoops, and as I say that I feel like I am going to throw up. My god Seth, please find a way to prove to me we have not become the equivalent of yet another mediocre ACC squad?

What is an OC? What does “OC” mean? I keep seeing this term. It must be bad because I got terrible stuff wrtten on signs stuck in my yard and they all make reference to this “OC” thing. I don’t get it.

Sincerely,
Mike B of Athens.
