Wednesday Practice Notes
The Bulldogs will hold a scrimmage game against their scout team tomorrow to simulate the Georgia Southern game. Today's practice was not at full speed and was in shells and shorts, Mark Richt said.
Some notes from the day of some importance:
-- A.J. Green is now second on the depth chart at split end behind Mo Massaquoi. Green also said he is running as the starter in goalline situations.
-- Tony Eason said Mass was the SE starter and that he was unsure whether Kenneth Harris or Kris Durham would start at the flanker position. In three-wide sets, however, both would be on the field.
-- Eason said Tavarres King had the No. 2 job at flanker (behind Harris) in three-wides, while Tony Wilson was No. 2 at the slot position.
-- Tony Ball said Richard Samuel had the inside track on the No. 2 running back job due to Caleb King's on-going injury problems. Ball said he did not want King to lose the job based on an injury, but a lot depended on how soon the redshirt freshman could get back on the practice field.
-- Richt said it had not been determined whether Knowshon Moreno would participate in Thursday's practice game. If he does, however, it will only be if the team plays at "thud" speed, rather than full tackling.
-- Ball said Asher Allen was the starter at kick returner, but the back-up job was between Samuel and fellow freshman tailback Carlton Thomas. Ball said the final decision, however, may come down to who could produce more on offense -- as he would not want to burn a redshirt year for a player just so he could return kicks.
-- Brannan Southerland met with doctors today to examine his injured foot. His CT scan went well, and doctors are now transitioning him out of the protective boot he had been wearing. He expects to be completely in sneakers by Monday, and said he's aiming to return to action for the Arizona State game.
