Volleyball Practice Begins

The University of Georgia volleyball team started preparations for the 2008 season on Thursday morning with a two-and-a-half hour workout at the Ramsey Student Center.

It s so exciting to actually be able to come and see the team playing, getting out on the court and seeing them get some ball contact, head coach Joel McCartney said. It s such a build up for me personally through the course of the summer knowing that they are out doing open gyms and working very hard preparing for this moment. It s like Christmas to me. I get to see the package unfold right here.

The expectation of this first training session is to get the team out and moving in volleyball specific movements and getting a touch on their platform with the ball, McCartney added. We were able to accomplish that this morning, and in this evening s training session we ll start putting some system implementation into it.

On Wednesday, the Bulldogs reported to campus and held team meetings, took team pictures and had a team dinner.

Thursday s first day of camp will also include an afternoon strength and conditioning session as well as an evening practice. Georgia will hold morning and evening practice sessions again on Friday, and then on Saturday, the Bulldogs will train in the morning but have scrimmages during the evening. Additional team scrimmages are scheduled throughout the preseason camp including the evening practices of Aug. 12, Aug. 14 and Aug. 17.
