Georgia Golf Schedule Announced
From UGA Athletics Dept:
The Georgia men s golf team will play approximately half of its 2008-09 schedule within the confines of the state.
Coach Chris Haack recently announced the schedule, which includes five events in Georgia. The Bulldogs will open the season Sept. 12-14 at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Rocky Face and will play in the Brickyard Collegiate Championship Oct. 11-13 in Macon. During the spring, Georgia will have three straight instate events the Linger Longer Invitational in Greensboro March 20-22, the United States Collegiate in Alpharetta April 5-7 and the Southeastern Conference Championship in Sea Island April 17-19.
The Bulldogs will play a minimum of nine tournaments this season. That number can increase if Georgia is invited to an NCAA Regional and then advances to the NCAA Championship. The Bulldogs have played in the NCAAs 11 straight years, including 1999 and 2005 when they won national titles.
The NCAA Regionals will be held May 14-16 in Galloway, N.J. (East); Austin, Texas (Central); and San Francisco (West). The NCAA Championship will take place May 27-30 at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. The Bulldogs will get an early look at Inverness as they compete in the NCAA Preview Sept. 28-30.
Also on the schedule this season are the Isleworth Invitational Oct. 26-28 in Windermere, Fla.; the Puerto Rico Shootout Feb. 27-March 1 in San Juan; and the Las Vegas Intercollegiate March 13-15.
The Bulldogs will open the year with their 2008 NCAA lineup intact with the return of seniors Brian Harman and Adam Mitchell, junior Hudson Swafford, and sophomores Harris English and Russell Henley. Georgia won three tournaments last season (the Brickyard Championship, the Isleworth Invitational and the NCAA East Regional). The Bulldogs were eighth at the NCAAs, but were No. 1 in the final Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.
I think this is the kind of schedule that will excite our team, Haack said. Every week, we will going against the best teams in the country. That kind of competition only makes you better as you get ready for the SEC and the NCAA Championships. We are looking forward to teeing it up again.
