Signings done, so time for a depth chart!
Georgia's signing class is (presumably) finished, we know (presumably) who has transferred, and we know (for sure) who has left for the NFL and who has stayed.
So it's time for my very early, somewhat educated guess at what Georgia's depth chart looks like for the 2011 season:

A few quick caveats:
- If I didn't list somebody, it's because a) they haven't been mentioned by coaches, which doesn't mean they can't become factors in spring, or b) I completely forgot them, which is on me. But keep in mind there are 85 guys, so I have to cut it off somewhere.
- Also, when it comes to backups I'll admit I haven't tried too hard to be exact in some positioning: Such as Sam or Will linebacker, or the offensive line spots.
- Lee at left guard is my biggest guess of any starter. The offensive line is the big question since the new coach will have a say. But it’s likely either Gates or Glenn will shift to right tackle, while the other will play right guard. Todd Grantham said they haven’t decided for sure on moving Justin Anderson back to offense, but I went ahead and assumed it.
- Jarvis Jones may also start at outside linebacker. Todd Grantham said they’re still determining that. I slotted him inside because I give Washington the edge (pun intended) to get a starting nod over Samuel.
- It doesn’t appear a permanent position switch is in the offing for Branden Smith. But if the coaches change his mind he’ll be a factor at receiver.
- The competition at corner should be stiff. Swann and Marshall will almost certainly play. There’s more depth at CB than safety, so look for someone to switch out.

It's got to be hard for Bean to keeping switching sides. If they consider sending him back to the O-line, Geathres must finally be earnin the coaches' respect.
Is this finally the year Marlon Brown does something?
I really think the Defense will be vastly improved next year. If Crowell steps in as a freshman and we get big seasons out of Orson Charles and Tavarres King I think we'll be really good. We need all 3 of them to have breakout seasons. Marlon Brown, Wooten, Troup don't have to be superstars but just need to be solid contributors.
I really think Marlon Brown has a great year. Also look for Wooten to get back on track after a disappointing sophmore year. I think by the end of the year, our receiving corp will be one of the best in the conference. Too much talent and speed not to bust out at some point. Now let's GATA Dawgs!!
I would say that Sanders Commings is A LOT better than Brandon Smith. Sanders is strong and had 3 ints in limited action. He will be starting.
Devin Bowman have a shot at playing time at CB? Believe Lott and Lee will be redshirt sophomores.
Yeah and Mark will be finished after another lousy and under achieving finish. Should be a bright future for the new coaching staff in 2012 though.
You have John Jenkins listed as a Junior instead of freshman, but other than that I like what I see. Thanks Seth.
neither Drew nor Crowell will start the 1st game.
neither will obviously be on the spring depth chart either....
Looks good Seth. Richt should add another SEC east title this year. Look for Samuel to have a breakout year after redshirting, he's still only 20 years old and one of the most physically gifted guys on the team. Marlon Brown should have redshirted his first year, needed to bulk up and wasted that year playing very little.
To Josh: John Jenkins is a Junior since he has already spent 2 years in college.
For Seth: Do you have Stripling listed 3rd at OLB because you don't think he will recover from his injury in time to play much this season?
Yes, John Jenkins is a junior college transfer.
I don't get the sense Stripling will be at full strength for spring practice, and chances are he won't practice until the summer.
That said, don't look too much into the order I listed the backups. Sometimes there's a gap between them, sometimes not.
did you leave out austin long? he was the number 2 player behind marlon brown in the state of tennessee two years ago. he should definitely be a factor this year after coming off of his back surgery 1 1/2 years ago
Ah! My bad Seth! I totally forgot that he was a JUCO signing! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for contributing to the conversation there Anon...
LOLZ. I think it's funny when one "Anon" takes a jab at another.
I like to think that all of us Anons are just one guy with multiple personalities having a conversation with himself.
Who said that?
Seth-
there will be 1 major change, absolutely guaranteed. Aaron Murray will not, should not, and cannot be the starter. 6-7 record, o wins against winning teams, 7 tds against winning teams, he just doesn't have that ability to compete with the best.
Hutson Mason has a year in the system, is taller, is more accurate, has poise, and is great for the short passing game that Bobo ran with Murray.
Lemay will not start, he's been out for a year now, very rusty. But I would put Lemay ahead of Murray.
I will say this. If Murray starts, Richt will be gone at the end of the season.
Nice to see another MORON chime in about Murray. LOL
The idea that Murray will not succeed is ridiculous. Anyone who would think that he is not the key to our success is an idiot. Ok, besides the obvious....
I concur the question on Austin Long - will he ever materialize. BTW - do we really not have any decent junior linemen? It will concern me if we are as thin as this depth chart indicates.
Overall, Seth - this is great work. I'm excited to see what some of the highly touted recruits of yester year (i.e., garrison smith) can produce. Keep up the good work - I want to see/hear just how anxious these Bulldogs are to really get to work up until 9/3.
@Anon 10:42-
What drugs are you on?
Aaron Murray just had one of the best seasons in SEC history for a freshman. If he keeps playing that way, he'll start as long as he wants to at UGA. He was one of the few bright spots from last season. He finished in the top 10 in passing efficiency for chrissakes.
"1 major change, absolutely guaranteed." LOL. You haven't a clue what you are talking about.
Anon @10:42 PM is BullDawg... who is either Zach Mettenberger himself or a relative I think.
Anon/ bulldawg. Give it a rest, you were probably one of the morons telling us Richt should put in Cox when we had Stafford because he had " leadership". How'd that turn out for Georgia when Stafford left? Oh wait I almost forgot you were a Tech fan impersonating a Georgia fan. Never mind!
Those wanting Murray to stay on this blog, are Florida fans, or perhaps related to Murray.
Wow. Ealey should not even show up for spring practice. Led the team two years in rushing and you are writing him off. Ealey will be number 1 on the depth chart and Crowell will be #3. That is why your a blogger and not a analyst.
The only reason not to like Aaron Murray is because he sports the Jon B fade. Other than that he has all the tools to be a very successful college QB
The Georgia QB doesn't need to be good enough just to beat Vanderbilt, any QB could do that. he needs to be able to beat Florida & South Carolina to win the SEC East. And SEC West teams like Arkansas, Miss St. & Auburn. Can't lose to weak out of conderence teams like Colorado, and needs to be able to score a TD in a Bowl game, especially a team like UCF from a lesser conference. Murray just isn't the guy.
Watch for Figgins, Mitchell, and Ealey to start.
QB:
1- Mason
2- Lemay
3- Murray

Agree, only people that like 6 win-7 loss seasons would want Murray back. I don't see it. No way that happens.
Murray going for 4 to's against Fla and scoreless against Gamecocks--not getting the deal done. Have to win the SEC East by at least bring your 'A' game into those 2 games.
Murray was a freshman bulldawg. He just had one of the best seasons in SEC history for a freshman. A few of his losses were a direct result of the defense.
Miss St. 274 yards, 1 TD, O Inc
Colorado 221 yards, 3 TD, 1 Inc
Auburn 273 yards, 3 TD, 0 Inc
He had a QB rating of 154.8 last year for gods sake and he was a FRESHMAN!
Your ridiculous points are making it more and more obvious that you are a troll and don't really mean the things you say. You just want to get a rise out of people. In fact, you're probably not really even a GA fan.
I know it is hypocritical to post this as an anonymous poster, but here's a quick question:
Seth - Why haven't you done away with the anonymous posting on your blog? Paul Westerdawg attempted to let that happen for a long time and his message boards were trolled/destroyed by Florida fans and also some techites.
If you require a log-in to post something, it puts a little bit of accountability and you will be able to block troublesome posters. Some of you will say, "Well, they will make new accounts". You are right, they probably will. But it will require more work to set up an email address and re-register than it will to block a person from posting.
_______
And Murray was a true freshman. If the person who posted that was remotely serious, they are out of their mind. We couldn't run the ball last year, so we had to pass it a LOT to make up for that fact. Defenses knew what we were doing and shut us down. Simple as that.
Pro-Murray fan is delusional. What about 6 wins do you not accept? What about winless against winning teams do you not understand? He chokes. Georgia needs to go with a QB who doesn't choke against winning teams, who can go better than 6 wins.
Murray will make millions playing football and the anon/ troll will still be watching him on a small screen TV in his Mom's basement. Good times.
Some bloggers wanting to turn Seth's blog into a propaganda Georgia blog, that only presents 1 side of issues. Too funny. Seth is a JOURNALIST. That would be ANTI-JOURNALISTIC unless you live in a commnunist country. There must be a voice that isn't afraid to speak truth, even if it's a voice against the powers that be. The truth will be heard.
Murray will not have an NFL career. Short QB's don't go NFL as a rule, certainly not QB's with losing records. Wake up. Murray ain't all that.
Oh, sh**. The revolution is starting here, comrades.
Anon10:33 taking the other side of a debate just to be different doesn't make you right, it just makes you different. Barfing up stats, doesn't make you an expert, it makes you desperate.
Anon 10:35 - too short? You don't watch footbal. How tall are the last two Super Bowl winners?(I'll help you and tell you it was Brees and Rogers since you don't follow football).
Murray will be a redshirt sophomore--while his numbers were impressive for a first year starter, he was not a true freshman this year. Not trying to assist the douchebag anon that keeps posting, but you might want to use some true facts when trying to outsmart him...
Bress and Rogers both have winning records as QB, Murray does not.
Murray won state title in Florida.
Please come up with excuses for each of the following teams which Murray couldn't beat:
1) South Car.
2) Miss St.
3) Auburn
4) UCF
5) Florida
6) Colorado
7) Arkansas
Please note the pass defensive ranking of each team.
Please name all of the NFL QB's that has a losing career record in college as a starting QB in college.
Please name all the current NFL QB's that are shorter than Aaron Murray.
Anon 10:54 while you can count to 7, Murray is going to be able to count in the millions, dollars that is.
Please name all NFL quarterbacks who make millios who had a losing record once in their career. Well, I'm waiting stat man.
Do we blame Murray for the lack of a run game?
Do we blame Murray for a defense that was in its first year of a new scheme that cost us in some crucial areas?
Do we blame Murray for making mistakes like all first year quarterbacks do?
Idiot.
How about you all ignore him and quit giving this guy a reason to keep talking. Whether Murray wins 10 games or 5 games next year, he will still find something to hate on. So just pay him no attention. He's the "I have no life so I find stats to hate on somebody that has it better than me" guy
Stupid stat man- you might be worrying about Murray, I can assure you he's not worrying about you.
South Carolina, Colorado, Auburn, and Mississippi State were 4 of the worst passing defenses in the nation. Murray lost to all 4 teams.
John Elway never had a winning record in college.
He sucked.
I'll only say that football is a TEAM sport. Murray wasn't playing by himself.
Honestly, if you see Murray as a big problem, you're either a rival fan or on drugs.
feed the trolls. feed the trolls. feed the trolls. feed the trolls. feed the trolls. feed the trolls. feed the trolls. feed the trolls. feed the trolls. feed the trolls. feed the trolls. feed the trolls. feed the trolls. feed the trolls. feed the trolls. feed the trolls. feed the trolls. feed the trolls. feed the trolls. feed the trolls. feed the trolls. feed the trolls. feed the trolls. feed the trolls.
This guy is just sad. Really. It's so sad to see somebody have so much jealousy built up because he couldn't amount to anything and guys like Murray are working so hard and making something out of themselves. That's really what this is all about guys. This troll is insecure and absolutely hate's people that are better than him so he constantly insults them.
Murray couldn't beat Colorado, and Seth has him #1 on the depth chart. Something tells me this might change.
Anon 2:06 Murray is undefeated against your Tech team. Kid has a bright future, he's going to make bank like Stafford when he graduates.
Seth- Any word on the development of the two big DT's we signed in last years class-- Thornton and Smith?
Thornton redshirted, haven't heard him mentioned. I'd imagine he's buried deep on the depth chart.
Garrison Smith played end this year. I could see him getting some nose action in the future, but the job belongs to Jenkins for now.
