Call for the mailbag

So just like that, it snowed … again?! Well not that much, basically a dusting. But enough that those of us who planned on jogging off the ice cream we treated ourselves to last night will now have to schlep to the gym again. And we hate the treadmill.

Seriously, didn't the groundhog decree that winter was over? What's the deal here? (Archie, pictured above, isn't quite sure what to make of it either.)

In any event, it’s been a bit since we had a mailbag, so let’s do it. Send in any questions you may have: About the football offseason, the basketball team’s struggles, a good movie you may have seen (“The King’s Speech” was good), relationship advice, or help with your taxes.

Fire away below in the comment section, or send me an e-mail (semerson@macon.com). I'll post the answers later today - barring any breaking news (please no more) - once we get enough questions.

Sweetwater or Terrapin?

Do you think there is some dissent from the veteran team members on how the red carpet was rolled out for these new recruits? If so, what do you think the coaches will do to try and fix this?

NCDawg said...

Start the rumors. Whose the next line coach?

Also, there are no guns in MadMen. Have you considered Justified. It's back. The GangstaGrass music is worth it alone.

To Umphrey's: Sierra Nevada Porter.

Oops! LB Coach.

Is Jay Clark becoming the GymDawgs Ray Goff to Suzanne Yoculan's Vince Dooley?

Are you going to do a live blog from the Horsey Team Meet versus AU on Saturday? AU is pretty tough in westerm reining. They might be looking for the upset.

How soon do you think the secretary that Don Draper slept with early in last season of Mad Men show up with a kid in tow and makes things complicated for his new wife/secretary?

Seriously...Umphrey's said...

Oh and do you think Coach Richt will try to treat LeMay like he did Shockley and give him a few snaps here or there? I would think since Murray is "his" guy he would be less willing to than he was with David Greene.

Do you watch Shameless? You should William H. Macy is the man.

What do you think are the reasons the GA basketball team struggles to score in the halfcourt against good defenses? Lack of ballhandlers who can score? Lack of good spot-up shooters?

Nice choice NCDawg. I'm a 420 or Terrapin Golden Ale man myself

Since Clowney seems to be unsure about his pick and while now it seems Clemson is now in the mix more so than Bama, is UGA actively pursuing this kid or can UGA make room for him?

Would you swim up the amazon with 45 lb dumbells tied to your scrotum, with ellen degeneres' farts as your air supply if it meant you could eat a nice sea food dinner with Lauren Conrad over skype on a dial up connection?

I contributed too much to my Roth IRA this year and now have to recharacterize that overage into a Traditional IRA (or face a penalty). Can you offer some guidance?

Is there a timeline on our new defensive coach? And who is calling the shots on that hire? Also, what is the missing piece that the Fox needs to get our basketball club "over the hump"? It seems like we are stuck at a particular level and can't quite elevate to that "next level.

You need to diversify yo' bonds

Over/under on 9 wins next regular (football) season?

What are our chances of making the tourney after Tuesday's loss?

What do you think about the baseball team this year?

Anything specific and/or new on Ealy? Have you spoken to him much since you came to Athens? What's your impression of the young man? Is there really a new attitude in the S&C program or does it seem to be same chorus, different singer? We've heard a lot about Crowell's visit and the 'missing tailback' formation. Great theater. Whose idea was that?

That's a fine looking dog, let's put him in a sweater and call him Uga.

Have you seen "Leaves of Grass"? Edward Norton plays a great redneck. Directed by Tim Blake Nelson plus a cameo by Mr. Holland without his Opus. You should check it out.

Why exactly are the players twitting things like "UGA trippin"

David said...

What % of rumors do you hear that actually become true and reported?

Have you seen any other Oscar noms this year? Black Swan, The Social Network, 127 Hours?

Seth, I apologize for the email. Any news on the new defensive coach, and how this will impact Grantham's/Garner's role? What about how our offensive linemen are responding to Friend's hire?

Eric said...

We haven't heard much out of Caleb King since the Crowell signing. If I were him I'd be motivated to work my rear off to prove people wrong. Any sign he is doing this? Malcolm too?

Seth, don't you know the 1st day of Spring isn't official until the young ladies walking along Milledge drop the sweatshirts around the waists and once again all is well with the world?

Seth, are there any of this years recruits that have not or maybe in trouble of not qualifying academically?

Also, any word on the new defensive coach?

Sweetwater IPA is great but I also love Terrapin Rye. Two great local beers!!!!

what are some ideas for "balancing" out the pass happy offense? I mean which assistant coach is going to the running game get more creative. I really feel this is the only place UGA's O has lacked in the last several years. Do you think better S&C will naturally make the running game more creative?

Do you think Mubarak's imminent resignation will begin a cascading effect of 'people's revolutions' in moderate Arab states, thus jeopardizing the tenuous stability of the Middle East, and perhaps emboldening the Islamic Fundamentalists towards expansionism.

More importantly, what are the key needs on both sides of the ball next year for 2012 recruiting.

Buddha Dawg said...

Is it another year before Outlaw is eligible? Who is our current "big man" at WR?

Anonymous said...

Ask Bobo if he knows how to use TE's.

Where is Chase Vasser on the depth chart?

Reverend Whitewall said...

Are you seeing any backlash from the players about the recent changes (S&C, Team Meals, etc)? Backlash is probably a stronger word than I'm trying to ask, but you get my drift.

Sandfly, GA said...

There has been very little media coverage of Outlaw since his "surprise" offer last year. His name came back up again recently when we made a similar last minute run at Tre Jackson. Perhaps during the offseason you can take a look at how things are going for Outlaw at GMC and maybe speculate on the likelihood of him coming to UGA and making a contribution?

broadstreet11 said...

Assuming Trey is gone, who takes over in the backcourt next year. Will Thornton be our lone, serviceable "almost-big" man, or can Florveus come in and give us size and strength quickly?

Coon Dawg said...

Another request for info on Ken Malcomb's development. Also, were your manly senses offended by the film of Cameron Diaz feeding popcorn to A-rod on national TV?

Why do comments left through your white background page not show up on your gray background page and visa versa?
Will Jenkins be enrolling right away?

Seth, is Georgia through recruiting in football for the 2011 class? Also, have you heard anything about Ealey transferring?and lastly, do you prefer a flat tax or value added tax over the current progressive tax? Thanks.

Did UGA hire the nutritionist from UF? Has she started and what changes has she made?

Does your source in the State Department still believe the Jasmine Revolution will have no effect on other nations in the Middle East? Does he/she want to make any other predictions?

I. Lee said...

Next year being CTG second year and first year recruiting his own talent...How much better can we expect the Defense to be?

Does anyone expect Ealey back?

Aaah. Springtime in Athens.
That's better for a man's circulation than Plavix.

Russ for UGA IX in '011 said...

ESPN named Mike Bobo one of the top recruiters of the year. Do you think all the venomous comments/ posters need to keep this in mind when they start to rant and rave about firing Bobo, firing Richt, firing UGA VIII, firing Russ, etc?

What are your thoughts and what are you hearing about Tompkins and his stock in NBA draft if he left early? Same with Leslie?

Am I safe in assuming that Mark Richt reports his football camp income to the IRS?

Sierra Nevada is good, but you can't beat a nice Abita Springs TurboDog
