The story behind Crowell's puppy

Good work here by Chris White of the Ledger-Enquirer, who has the story behind the puppy that star recruit Isaiah Crowell showed off when he committed to Georgia last Wednesday.

It turns out the puppy was owned by Mike Woods, the fan most famous for painting a bulldog on his bald head for football games. And Woods said the puppy, named Magical Munson Woods, is part of the Uga lineage, and his great uncle was Uga VI.

Woods says someone called him the night before signing day asking to use the puppy for Crowell's ceremony. He agreed, and it was returned safely the following night.

“I’m going to offer him to Georgia for Uga IX,” Woods said. “I’ll be glad to give him to Georgia. He’s got the background to do it, and I’ve got the papers to prove it.”

I hope UGA seriously considers using Magical Munson Woods as the next puppy. Seth do you think they would use him?

Magical.

As someone who owns and has been involved in the breeding of AKC registered champions I have to say that most people posting on here have no idea what they are talking about. The University is getting top quality dogs from the Seilers. English Bulldogs are prone to problems and the past two have been purely bad luck.

Knowing the NCAA, this will end up being some kind of recruiting violation that gets Crowell suspended for 4 games.

I doubt they would. The Seilers would probably be up in arms if that happened. I think it's ridiculous not to have a small pup grow into the job. Their life expectancy is already short enough. It's been so darn formal and proper- "got to wait 'til he's ready for the job." Let the dog be a Dawg!

I don't know why I thought I should share this, but I thought it was funny.

Rumor has it that Ealey missed a punishment run and might be kicked off the team. Take it for what it is worth... just a rumor.

Seth,

I enjoy the blog, but be honest and let me know if you ever get good feedback from your "funny" tweets. The tweets you posted about Friedgen and Saban was just stupid and it makes you sound like you are making fun of UGA fans. Please stop with that stuff and stick to the reporting that you do so well. Thanks.

I thought the Saban tweet was funny, but then I also thought it ridiculous that Friedgen was going to be UGA's OL coach.

I like the tweet humor. It's OK to have a bit of a sense of humor about our beloved university and its athletic program.

That said, Jeff Schultz is a jerk.

God forbid!!! Uga needs to be owned by the Seiler family or else the tradition would be broken!!! A good looking white male English Bulldog from Uga's line that isn't owned by the Seiler's just wouldn't be good enough. If we have to go without a mascot for a year or two, so be it.

The idea that Friedgen was ever going to be the O-line coach was laughable. That was the point. Not a shot at fans. More like ... well better leave that alone.

I don't understand how you people are so critical. Jesus.

Seth:

You hearing anything about King/Ealey transferring or withdrawing?

Seth Emerson said...

NRBQ,

I know there's a rumor out there. And I appreciate you and others asking. Just please understand, I have to deal with facts here. So basically I'm just asking people to know that if and when there's something to report, I'll do so. Hope people understand.

I will give you some good feedback regarding your tweets. I thought your tweet was hilarious. We, Georgia fans, really are one of the most delusional fan bases.

Actually, they have a clause that any white-furred male puppy of the Uga lineage may be chosen as a mascot candidate. The family doesn't always own the current mascot from the litter, but he is in their care when training and serving as Uga.

Talked to Ealey earlier tonight and he said he is suspended until he proves he can "act right." Also hinted that a lot of players are considering transferring.

Thanks for the hot tip Quincy. In reality, the only person you talked was your mom. She said move out of her basement. When there's a story you'll hear about it.

"Talked to Ealey earlier tonight?" Like hell you did. Don't start rumors like that man. That's just not right and if Ealey was suspended that would be reported because he wouldn't be out there telling people about it. Quit your rumor spreading.

Talked to Bobo last night. I probably shouldn't post this, but he said he saved 15% on car insurance at Geico.com. Can anyone confirm this????

Mark Richt called me last night (go figure) and asked my opinion about Ealey's discipline issues. I'll let him reveal what I said.

Oh, Anon 7:35, he also said the Bobo rumor was not true. Check your sources. You give all Anons a bad name. ;)

I love the tweets also. Don't stop, especially during basketball games.

What Mike Woods ment when he said he would offer the puppy as Uga IX was that he would offer the dog to the Seilers. Like a previous poster said. The Seilers have rights to any Male, White puppy from the Uga line they think is fit to be the next Uga. Now, im not sure on how many generations that covers in the line. In this case the puppy came from a brother of Uga VI so that would mean that Uga V is the Great Great Grandfather of this puppy. "I think"
