Georgia gets a good hoops win

The good times on the football recruiting trail carried over to Georgia's men's basketball team on Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs won at Arkansas, 60-59, as Trey Thompkins hit a free throw with 1.4 seconds left.

Thompkins was sent to the foul line after a foul was called as he rebounded his own miss. Arkansas wanted a traveling call. But Thompkins got the call and nailed the first free throw, then missed the second, but the Razorbacks didn't get a shot off before the buzzer.

(This is all according to sources close to my television set. Like pretty much all media members covering Georgia I was here in Athens covering signing day.)

It was a big win in several ways for Georgia, which improved to 15-6 overall and 4-4 in the SEC. The Bulldogs are now 2-2 on the road in SEC play, and 3-0 against the West.

The good news for Georgia is that it is now 4-4 at the halfway mark of SEC play, with games still to play against the league's two worst teams - Auburn and LSU - and two against what is probably the East's worst team, South Carolina. The bad news is it lost twice at home and still has to go Florida, Tennessee and Alabama.

Auburn is next up for Georgia, Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Stegeman Coliseum.

It was ugly, but I'll take the W! Finally a call goes our way... This was a huge victory, especially with the adversity we went through with the long flight and starting absolutely terribly. Hopefully the positive MO will carry over. Need to kick the manure out of Auburn and get ready for Xavier. That's going to be a tough game. But for now, enjoy this win. Go dawgs

Just bareley as in everything else lately. When will the dawgs ever dominate in anything except GYM. Mark Richt still couldnt pull off a Surprise recruit. Our Neighbor Clempson landed 4 (5) star recruits. Mark Richt is still asleep people ! Wake up I say !

LOL I knew some lame Anonymous poster would eventually try to bash our stellar recruiting day. Seriously, you sound pathetic.

Oh and please name Clemson's four (5) star recruits.

I'm waiting...

Thought so.

Watkins, Steward, Bellamy and Anthony . Count'em

Not too stellar. Bama still owns us in recruiting. Fla. State kicked our a$$ as well. BTW CMR has even better classes than this stupid "Dream Team " joke which will more than likely come back to bite us as ususal.

Well, I'm glad MEN'S BASKETBALL got a W today. COACH MARK FOX has done a decent job so far. I agree, Xavier will be a challenge. Didn't MEN'S BASKETBALL play Xavier in the first round in the SEC tournament in 2008 and loss to them? Maybe we can beat them this time.

Good job. MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM.

By the way Anon, I capped my post for a reason.

HUGE win. No it wasn't sexy like beating a Top 10 team or anything but for anyone following this league it has huge implications for the rest of the schedule. If the Dawgs can hold serve at home (big IF with Vandy and Xavier) then I think we make the tourney.

Still, I want BADLY to get either UT or UF on the road.

Then again, I take NOTHING for granted with this team.....

Hey negative anon- do you want cheese with your whine.

By the way, we dominated Mississippi State a mere two weeks ago. DOMINATED.

Seth,

Are the posts on here as negative as I perceive? When you were writing for S. Carolina, were the fans this bad?

More football whining on a basketball post? I'm going to stop mentioning this because I'm going to start sounding like a broken record. Anyway, it was ugly, but it was sweet at the same time. Good for us to have a great win on the road. I was quite happy to see a call go our way for once.

About football..all the negativity needs to just stop. We have a great recruiting class and I'm excited to see how these guys do.

I just want to know the name of that puppy....haha, that video of Crowell made me laugh really hard. "God fearing dude" should be Richt's new nickname.

Go Dawgs!
