Sunday Tidbits

Just a quick few bits of news and notes for Sunday...

-- A big thanks to Fletcher Page for posting the notes from last night's scrimmage. I spoke to Geno Atkins after practice, too, and he had a few compliments to offer...

While Carlton Thomas had the most impressive numbers, Atkins said Richard Samuel looked every bit as dominant as he had in the week's first scrimmage. "On offense, Richard Samuel ran the ball hard. He ran through people, rushed over tackles."

With Reshad Jones and Quintin Banks out, safety had to be a concern, but Atkins said Makiri Pugh looked sharp in his debut at the position. "Makiri Pugh just changed his position to safety, and he looked like that was his natural spot," Atkins said. "He made a couple of big plays."

Aaron Murray and Zach Mettenberger continue to make progress, too, Atkins said. "The two freshmen quarterbacks looked good. We got some pressure on them, but they looked good."

Overall, Atkins said he was pleased with the scrimmage. "It was a big improvement from the first scrimmage," he said. "We got after it and it was a high tempo."

-- In addition to Fletcher's notes post-scrimmage, he has some additional tidbits from earlier in the day that are now posted on Macon.com.

-- Apparently I'm dumb and forgot to include the link for Fletcher's story on Darius Dewberry from yesterday's Telegraph.

-- And lastly, I have a story in today's Telegraph on how freshman receiver Marlon Brown is working to make his own way at Georgia rather than live up to the comparisons to A.J. Green.

Thanks for your great work. I have a question. How come the #1's don't scrimmage against each other? It is always the #1's vs the #2's. I think I read where USC goes 1 vs 1s. Thanks

CMR never goes ONES vs ONES except in spring practice. That simply has always been his policy. I'm kind of with you though. I think ONES vs ONES during camp occasionally would be a really good thing...sharpen the edge a bit.
