Sunday Links (12/14)

For the first time in months, I have no college football follow-up stuff to write. I have no fantasy football team to worry about. Even the Eagles aren't playing today. I have no clue what to do with my Sunday, but I'm excited about it nevertheless.

A few links for your reading pleasure...

-- I have a story in today's Telegraph speaking with Damon Evans about the future of the UGA football program. Part one of the full transcript of my interview with Evans is also posted on the blog. We'll have part two posted tomorrow.

-- When you hire someone's head coach away from them and they're happy to wave goodbye, well you might want to start worrying about that hire. This scathing endorsement of Gene Chizik is just one of the reasons Auburn fans are freaking out a bit today.

-- Georgia Sports Blog has more thoughts on the Chizik hiring, but I think the most interesting note is this: Auburn probably should have hired Turner Gill, but ironically, Gill will now be the perfect guy to take over at Iowa State.

-- TotalUGA broke the news yesterday that Stacy Searels could be headed to Gene Chizik's staff (Warning: Subscription required). Long story short though -- no one at Georgia is confirming or denying this, as Anthony Dasher is also reporting. Wouldn't surprise me at all if there have been some conversations, but I'd be surprised if Searels left for anything less than the OC job at Auburn and a hefty raise.

-- Get the Picture does an excellent job of putting the Auburn fiasco into perspective, while making the case for why Searels and Rodney Garner should think twice before bolting Athens.

-- All the Tebow haters can breath a sigh of relief. Sam Bradford won the Heisman last night.

-- Here's an interesting little nugget from the recruiting trail that would lead you to believe there isn'tmuch of a lovefest between South Carolina and Tennessee's coachingstaffs.

--ESPN's Chris Low ranks the SEC coaches. It's hard to argue with most of his selections (although the order ofthe top two is debatable) but Bobby Petrino ahead of Mark Richt?Really?

-- Apparently overseeing one of the worst offenses in Division I doesn't mean you aren't in line for a better job. Former UT offensive coordinator Dave Clawson was hired as the head coach at Bowling Green.

-- In the wake of the Plaxico fiasco, Pyle of List has a summary of other sports figures who they'd like to see accidentally shoot themselves in the leg. I can't say I disagree with any of their selections except the last one. I've got nothing against Derek Fisher. Brett Favre, on the other hand...

-- Hey, my home state is hoping to legalize sports gambling. And to think I said there would never be any reason to live in Delaware.

Tebow haters? He did not deserve the Heismen last year but the man-boy love (ESPN) network pushed him like no other even with the gators bad record. This was one of the biggest frauds pulled on football. Did you notice this year ESPN did not put the full court press on having Tebow to win. Crickets. When that did not happen, you knew he was not going to win. Now we have a championship game with two heismen winners just like TV wanted. I suspect Tebow will not win next year as his passing is getting worse and worse due to the hits he keeps taking.
