Dawgs Fall at WKU

Since I was one of just a lucky few to have ESPNU, I took it upon myself to watch the UGA-Western Kentucky game. Here's a few quick thoughts from what I saw...

-- This was clearly Georgia's best test so far, and while no one should be thrilled with a loss, I think we can safely say the Dawgs looked pretty good and there's no reason to think they can't be competitive this year against some of the bigger boys. No, Western isn't exactly North Carolina, but they did just demolish the No. 3 team in the country two days ago.

-- Trey Thompkins still isn't 100 percent. The kid has looked great, and he certainly has added another dimension to the Bulldogs' offense, but he's still got a ways to go before he's clicking on all cylinders. He was 4-of-12 shooting against WKU for 10 points.

-- Zac Swansey giveth (7 points, 4 boards) but he certainly doesn't giveth enough (just one assist). Georgia's guard play was brutal at times, with Swansey's ill-advised quick 3 with a minute remaining being the best example of terrible decision making.

-- Albert Jackson missed a large chunk of the game with an injury and finished with just one point. He's been excellent on defense thus far this season, but the Dawgs need him a.) healthy, and b.) to produce a bit more on the offensive end of the floor.

-- As Terrence Woodbury goes, so go the Dawgs, and that's not good. Georgia took a 5-point lead to the half as Woodbury was lighting it up, chipping in with 16 points. He hit just one bucket in the second half, and the Bulldogs' lead quickly evaporated. The kid is just too streaky to be depended upon, but that's where Georgia's at right now.

-- Travis Leslie had six points off the bench, which is nice to see, but he still hasn't approached the numbers he put up against Loyola. Leslie and Jeremy Price have been the two big wild cards thus far. You'd like to see a lot more from them going forward.

-- Georgia was 1-of-9 from 3 in the second half. Not gonna get it done.

-- The Dawgs continue to look good on the boards. Yes, they were outrebounded in early games against SC-Upstate and Eastern Michigan, but that was more a function of the tremendous number of missed shots they had. It's harder to get an offensive rebound, and Georgia was simply missing too many shots. The past two games, however, the Dawgs have had a 94-58 advantage on the boards, including a 44-37 edge against WKU.

This is a typical Felton team. Good on defense but not on offense. I do think this is his best team so far but not sure it will be enough to keep his job although I could care less.
