Thompkins makes coaches' all-SEC team

Trey Thompkins may not have had a stupendous junior season, but it was still good enough to make the SEC first-team, according to the league's coaches.

Thompkins, the preseason player of the year, was one of eight members of the coaches' SEC first-team. Thompkins enters this week's league tournament averaging 15.8 points and 7.6 rebounds a game.

The Georgia forward was a unanimous first-team pick last year, when he averaged 17.7 points and 8.3 rebounds. This year the Lithonia product has been hampered by ankle and toe injuries.

Georgia junior Travis Leslie was one of nine members of the coaches' second-team. Leslie, a guard, is averaging 14.3 points and seven rebounds a game.

The SEC doesn't break ties in the coaches' vote, which is why the first and second teams each have more than five members.

The Bulldogs (20-10 overall, 9-7 in the SEC) were shut out of the other individual honors and all-freshman and defensive teams.

Florida head coach Billy Donovan, whose team captured the league title, won SEC coach of the year for the first time. The Gators also had the league player of the year, senior forward Chandler Parsons.

Here's a link to the full list of honorees. The media all-SEC honors are expected to be announced early next week.

"The Bulldogs (20-10 overall, 9-7 in the SEC) were shut out of the other individual honors and all-freshman and defensive teams" So what else is new? Dawgs may get shut out of the big dance as well. UGA is a party school. Football,BB and baseball all stinks and Im sick and tired of it. Its time to hire some competent coaches.

Some of the posts on here are simply too brilliant to try and describe to others.

How short sighted are we? We were in the NCAA Finals for baseball two years ago. We won 5 consecutive national titles in Gymnastics. Our m/w golf are perennial contenders for national titles as are the tennis and swimming and diving. Don't forget equestrian too. Basketball is relevant again in only two years (Fox should get a raise if anything). Let's not forget the years between Dooley and Richt either. We are a solid program. We may not be world beaters in football right now, but we'll be okay.

Back to work... just had to shed some perspective.

Thanks for the visit, Tech trolls. Think the Crickets can go far in the ACC tournament?

Better fire Hewitt soon before his contract automatically renews! I'm sure your athletic department is just swimming in money and you can afford the buyout.

Seth,

Perhaps you can report on the horseback team too.
