Wednesday Links (6/16)

Got a lot I'm working on, so just a few afternoon links today...

-- The Telegraph's Jonathan Heeter has a diary from Monday's first day at the U.S. Open for Georgia golfer Russell Henley.

-- Dean Legge has a great interview with Mark Richt that only tangentially touches on the games on the field. It's a good look at the Richt we don't hear a whole lot about.

-- As you're probably aware by now, Georgia's roster got another boost -- albeit it one unlikely to help out until 2011 -- with the transfer of former USC linebacker Jarvis Jones.

-- It's been a little bit of a rocky relationship between UGA and Carver-Columbus High School, but Marc Weiszer wonders if Jarvis Jones' transfer might not be a sign of things to come.

-- Georgia Sports Blog thinks the addition of Jones could be a big deal, too.

-- Tim Tucker previews Georgia's tight ends today and thinks Orson Charles bond with Aaron Murray could mean big things for the dynamic duo this year.

-- This betting site has Georgia pegged to finish third in the SEC East, although their explanation for why leaves me thinking the prediction could be dubious. "The lack of inexperience at quarterback, the uncertainty of how the defense will play, and the fact that this team has to play Florida, South Carolina, and Auburn on the road why I have slated at No.3." Yes, it will be Georgia's "lack of inexperience at quarterback" that does them in this year. Oh, and that Florida game isn't technically "on the road." Oh, and the last time Georgia lost in Columbia was the year before Richt arrived. Oh, and Georgia has beaten Auburn four straight seasons. But yeah... third place.

-- Interesting story on former Bulldog Max Jean-Gilles, who appears to be the first NFL play to undergo lap-band surgery in an attempt to control his weight. (h/t ABH)

-- Team Speed Kills looks deeper at three myths about conference expansion -- including a question on just how much of Orangebloods.com's reporting was on the money.

-- Missouri's president is OK with keeping the moniker of the Big 12 despite now having just 10 teams.

-- It's been one year since the fire at the Georgia Theater, and they're making some good progress on the road to re-opening.

-- Slashfood interviews Anthony Bourdain about his new book, which is sort of a follow-up to "Kitchen Confidential."

-- Here's a sneak peak at the upcoming season of "Entourage."

-- And finally, this week's bad idea for an '80s remake: "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead." OK, so that was actually the '90s. Either way, Hollywood sucks right now.

Entourage has become so terrible that its hard for me to remember that I actually enjoyed the first few seasons. Its a little difficult to pinpoint exactly when things took a turn for the worst. I was still enjoying things up to when Vince balked at Aquaman 2, but its clearly been awful ever since the fire Ari/ hire lady agent/ Medellin crap. It really is a Sex and the City for bros, minus the dumbass puns.

Noticed on Phil Steele's blog, Georgia is listed in the top 15 on offense and defense of most improved PPG this coming year.

Wouldn't a "lack of inexperience" be a good thing?

This reads as though, obviously, that you know that we are going to win in Week 2 on the road against Steve Spurrier's South Carolina team, whom everyone says is better than we are.

It also reads as though, obviously, that Coach Richt is going to beat Auburn on the road too.

And, why did you leave out Coach Richt's record in JAX at 2-7 ? Since you say that is not on the road for us with our flight down there 45 minutes from their campus where they still play the Gator Bowl every year.

Aren't those the very 3 games you listed on your blog just Monday sir, that we are going to lose based upon your analysis that the very next day, to take umbrage for Las Vegas reading your blog and quoting you to yourself only to have you ARGUE like you are MAD that THEY (not you) are WRONG ?

http://dawg-extra.blogspot.com/2010/06/fun-with-numbers-adding-it-all-up.html

Excuse me, David Hale on Monday, you said we ALSO would LOSE TO ARKANSAS and presented your argument why, along with these Auburn LOSSES you now DISAGREE with Las Vegas on, posted by you only Monday. And, you said just Monday at this URL Link that LOSE to South Carolina. Then, run in here now and state OH they are crazy thinking we will LOSE to South Carolina. David, am I missing something here sir ?

2-7 by the very same logic presented on Auburn and South Carolina, and you say we WIN.

If you could clarify please so that I am straight on the LOSSES. You say 10-3 with LOSS to South Carolina, LOSS to Arkansas and LOSS to Auburn. You say win against Florida. Which of course, means no SEC Championship Game. I mean it either is what you said Monday, or it is not.

Don't have to worry about you duplicating any points David. Not when Monday you say LOSS to Auburn, LOSS to Arkansas and LOSS to South Carolina.

Present the reasons why with disclaimers.

And, then 1 day apart come right back and say Las Vegas is wrong for Quoting your logic, argue with them like you are MAD at them for saying LOSS to South Carolina and LOSS to Auburn.

Sorry to be confused here, just a little bit sir. I'm just a Georgia boy. I don't follow you, sir. That is your Monday post by the numbers where you said too that LSU and Vandie are EQUAL TEAMS totally.

Maybe this will help:

The numbers on Monday were the result of taking specific stats and combining them to see what the result was. It's explained fully in the Monday entry where the numbers come from and what results are presented. So what you're got are just some numbers with some math applied. And they are presented with a healthy dose of skepticism.

The Tuesday predictions are not preditions of who Hale thinks will win, they are predictions of what VEGAS will have as the lines for each game. That's not an actual David Hale prediction of who will win, that's a David Hale prediction of what VEGAS will be thinking prior to the game.

It helps a lot to read what he writes instead of skipping the intro and jumping to the numbers.
