UPDATE: I traded emails with one of the players supposedly involved with this and he assured me this was not meant as a sign of a division within the team and said he was not actually involved in the creation of the site. I was told that a UGA student not on the team created the site, but that the three players listed as "administrators" were not the creators of the site.
The Facebook page is in the process of being taken down, and I would urge "fans" to consider the ridiculous accusations they'll throw at players who simply support a former teammate and I would caution you to think twice about the comments you make regarding utter speculation surrounding that former player.

Interesting find on Facebook...
(*edit*) A Facebook page said to be started by several Georgia players (*end edits*) was started a support page called "Team Mett" in honor of dismissed QB Zach Mettenberger.
The description of the page: "Zach Mettenberger... Enough Said. We'll miss you brother
*Closed to those who ever doubted Zach "The Show" Mettenberger*"
The page currently has 111 (and counting!) members, including a handful of other current and former UGA players.

I do support the guy in light of what must be a difficult situation, but without knowing the reason for Richt's change of heart from suspension to dismissal.. I'm going to stay away from it. But I wish him well wherever he ends up as long as we're not playing them.
This is not a good idea for these players to do this...this is like rebelling against your commander in chief, a munity, treason...this page will either be deleted or these kids will probably be punished. Any way you slice it, not a very mature way to handle things. It essentially is an effort to divide the team. This stuff needs to be left for fans, blogs, message boards and Adam Sheftner to generate not walk-ons and early enrollment freshmen...
I'm sure they will soon know what a slap on the wrist from Coach Richt feels like.
Problem#801 of whats wrong with the world today...everyone thinks they deserve to be heard on matters and outcomes they can not control.
If a recruit and his dad (lemay) thought that Mett was the best of the 3 Qb's, then I'm sure a portion of the team did as well. This could get ugly...
LOL
Saw that T. Kyle King from Dawgsports is a member of the page.
I think they're probably just making that to show that they feel bad for Mettenberger, but naming it "Team Mett" makes it sound like they're choosing Mettenberger over others.... (Gray and Murray)
Not a good idea.
no, i don't support zach. he hurt his team and us fans.
4:50 he didn't hurt you, me or any other fans. In the end, he hurt only himself in that he did not take advantage of a great opportunity. The opportunity to play football at certainly one of the top 15 national programs. The chance to play in big games every year. The chance to get a great education. The chance to get exposure and play on Sundays and make a lot of money. Maybe he takes advantage at the next spot but its an opportunity lost.
IF he did what the prevailing story claims he did, and mind you I'm saying IF, then his butt should be in jail. He doesn't deserve the support of anyone. Especially current players on a public forum like facebook. No matter what the facts of the case are, it is undeniable that he let down his family and his teammates and coaches.
This is sad, and I hope all past and current players refrain from signing on to this pathetic facebook group. Richt needs to nip this in the bud ASAP. While I hope Mett turns his life around and gets a shot elsewhere, I support Richt 100% on his decision.
I feel like I'm reading comments to a blog entry posted by a "journalist" from the AJC.
"Will you be joining?", posted with almost the entire content of the Facebook page, and the "supporters" of the page? Not to mention a direct link to the page in the first paragraph of the post here. B/t/w/ the number of members of the page has multiplied since the post of a link to the page on this site.
Given that what really happened is now a matter of blogoshpere speculation, and given the lack of a police report, or a "he said/ he said" between the ex Q.B. and the head coach, I can only imagine how this entire dialogue will make a bad matter worse, most likely for the privacy of Zach and his family.
Nice work. I'll have to start reading the AJC again (yikes!).
It seems to me right now that anyone who ever doubted Mett has now been proven completely correct. Uhhhhh. He can't help us anymore.
Good luck Mett. This isn't the end of the world for you. Go out and do well.
Not a good idea for players to align themselves with any cause that has a tinge of controversy.
HVL Dawg
As far as I'm concerned, that is a few more scholarships we can open up that LeMay can use in his recruiting efforts of fellow blue-chippers. Until actual players that see the field consistently get named, this whole "divide the team" is a moot point.
Richt should shut this down immediately. The silver lining is that it brought this potential division of the team to a head this spring rather than in the fall. We need them all on the same page. If any of these jokers want to support someone no longer on the team then go play for somewhere else. Mett is a loser and does not deserve any support from UGA players and fans. Goodbye Mett, don't let the door hit you in the backside.
Well it didn't take long for the player that started that page to take it down...
The group was made to support Mettenberger, not to try and divide the team. All of ya'll who think the group is trying to say something bad about CMR or the TEAM are stupid, don't know a thing about anything going on with the team and need to not be nosy about a group created by his friends that has nothing to do with you or anyone else except to support his future career.
Best of Luck ZM5!!!
I'd encourage those of you writing about "what really happened" to remember that no charges have been pressed against Mett and unless you were there to witness the situation personally, you're treading on potentially libelous statements.
Moreover, I don't think any of the players involved were trying to create a divide between the team, but rather to show support for Mett's future. Seems to me to be no different than Richt and Garner visiting Montez Robinson in jail.
David, why would you post this tabloid story with a serious cautionary note and then ask us what we're going to do? This is tease "journalism" at its finest. You're much better than this crud.
i was one of the first people to join the group on facebook because while mett isnt apart of the team anymore he still helped out the team last year during practice. he's a bulldog at heart and whats happened is mis fortunate. he's a good kid who has made a mistake (who hasnt?) and true fans will wish him the best of luck.
Coach Richt and Garner are in a positions of authority and the two of them going to meet with an out of state player that is jailed for a long period of time who happens to have a shaky family situation is no where near the same ball park or league as some underclassmen and walkon's starting a facebook page to "support team mett". Regardless of their "intention" it shows a blantant public disregard for Coach Richt's authority. Plus it could potentially give the lunatic fringe portion of the fan base a forum to pump up Mett while bashing Murray or Gray.
I'm glad it has been taken down...nothing good can come from it.
If you think so, they you probably think putting your tongue in the holiest of holies is the same thing as a foot massage.
Anon -- Pulp Fiction references will get you everywhere.
I see your point, and I completely agree that the page was probably a poor way of showing support. But I think supporting a former teammate -- regardless of the situation -- is not surprising or controversial.
Hey! Someone should start a Team Murray page and let fans join so the kid feels some support... let's get the kid looking forward to fall!
Murray = badass. Mettenburger = dumbass.
This just in Facebook Group: Prayers for Montez Robinson. Lets accuse the players who have joined of supporting their old freind, teamate and brother... seems like this is the new deadly sin. Come on Georgia, get real... 18-22 year old boys trying to support their friend they have cried, sweated and blead with. Grow up and quit trying to start stuff.
This is trash bro, take this blog post down, are you that bored and cant find anything else to write about? Ive always regarded you as a good writer and journalist but you just stirred the pot and probably are getting some guys who were supporting their friend in some S%&#!!! Come on man do whats best for UGA, dont get this into something its NOT. Just do us all a favor, take it down and write a blog about "Prayers for Montez" or something.
I completely agree that supporting a former teamate is neither surprising nor controversial.
Florida is still a bunch of fags
Why people insist on stirring the pot is beyond me. "Team Mett" and "Prayers for Montez Robinson" are obviously out there to show support for their fellow teammates. You people are idiots. And from what I can see over half the team has joined one if not both of these groups.
David,
Why does attrition hit UGA so much harder than some other SECOND schools like UF and UA? What can UGA do to be be better prepared for attrition (injuries and descipline)? The lack of for sight seems negligent. Whether the negligence is just stupidty or a holier than thou attitude is what I can't figure out. What is your opinion?
Murray has a group, its called Aaron Murray.org; go support away and boost his self esteem all you want. no one is saying anything bad about the other quarterbacks, the page is to show support for Mettenberger and his future.
S E C was changed to SECOND in my post above. Sorry! Go DAWGS!!!
David,
This is the saddest blog post I have ever seen from you. You have the nerve to insinuate that people who disapprove of the group aren't fans; and you admonish people for stirring the pot with mention of the allegations against Mettenberger when you yourself have done nothing constructive in this post. Not only did Mettenberger participate in some very unsavory actions while in Remerton, but he also LIED to coach Richt about the whole thing.
I hope the kid has a better future, but you'd be mistaken if you thought the majority of UGA students are feel, in any way, sorry for him. It's about time some karma came back around and dealt him a blow.
David, no one is upset that the "players" are showing support for their teammate/friend. The issue is the way in which they've done it. It's divisive and disrespectful to Mark Richt and the other QBs
Anon 11:12 -- Agree with you on that point, but LOTS of people are criticizing the players. So I'm not wrong on that.
Anon 11:10 -- Please show me where I wrote that anyone should feel sorry for Mettenberger. I simply said that fans who bash his teammates for supporting him don't have a clue what it means to be a part of a team. Please try to actually READ what I wrote rather than fill in the blanks with assumptions.
It's sad that the players who participated in the group didn't think before joining it. I understand the desire to support a friend, but they really didn't think it through. And look where it left us: arguing about semantics! Hahahah! I hope the guys get a proper talking too about thinking before they speak (or join), and I hope it doesn't cause any problems on or off the field. Let's put it behind us.
Full hearts! Clear eyes! Can't lose! It's so simple!
GT still blows
