All-Richt Georgia Draft Results

This officially makes me a nerd with way too much time on my hands, but I participated in a live draft with Fletcher Page, Dean Legge and Parker Morgan, picking our all-time Mark Richt teams. The rules were simple enough -- pick one player at each position to fill out a starting lineup, using only players from the Richt era. It was a snake draft, so I had the first pick and the eighth pick, and so on.

You can vote for who had the best team at Dean's DawgPost site and view each of the four teams HERE.

With the first overall pick, I took David Pollack. I punted on QB and running back once I realized I wasn't getting one of the top guys, and I think it worked to my favor. Anyway, here's my team. Let me know what you think...

Offense:
QB -- Aaron Murray
RB -- Washaun Ealey
FB -- Brannan Southerland
WR -- Fred Gibson
WR -- Reggie Brown
C -- Ben Jones
G -- Max Jean-Gilles
G -- Kevin Breedlove
T -- Dennis Roland
T -- Chester Adams
TE -- Leonard Pope

Defense:
DE -- David Pollack
DE -- Will Thompson
DT -- Jeff Owens
DT -- Geno Atkins
LB -- Tony Taylor
LB -- Rennie Curran
LB -- Cris Clemmons
S -- Thomas Davis
S -- Tra Battle
CB -- Tim Jennings
CB -- Tim Wansley

Special Teams:
K -- Brandon Bogotay
K -- Drew Butler

How was Murray eligible? Never taken a snap.

Page had the best team, hands down. Legge 2nd.

This is a little like the Dawgs of the decade thing. Hard to decide who to pick and every team looks great until I see the next one.

You guys went 19 rounds before drafting the most productive scorer for your teams?

You didn't pick RB til next to last? Expulsion from Dawg Nation for such heresy. UGA V just rolled in his vault.

I LIKE YOU KEPT FRED AND REGGIE TOGETHER. SURE DO MIS MAX LP AND TRA BATTLE. GREAT IDEA TO TRY AND PASS THE OFF SEASON BY. IMA HAVE TO SAY PAGE'S TEAM WOULD BUST THE REST. THAT DFENSE OF HIS HAS GOT SOME DESTROYERS. THEN U ACTAULLY LOOK AND HE HAS BEST DAWG SINCE HERSCHEL. 24 MAY OF LEFT EARLY BUT HE WON US A GAME VS THE GAYTORS WHICH IS PRICELESS. ONELOVE GA

Page has the most balanced team. Hale has the shutdown defense. Legge has the offense. If I had to pick a team for the season, Page gets it. But for a game, I'd love to see Hale vs. Legge.

I'm not a gamer. Can you plug these teams into NCAA football? I'd love to see a sim playoff.

Nice selection of Bogatay as Mr. Irrelevant. Seems fitting.

Its nice you paired the Pope with Murray. I wish we could pair them up this year. Pope was a monster in college.

Hale, has a solid D but too many holes on offense with Murray and Ealey as unprovens.

Fletcher page has the top team. When you have Greenie and Knowshon in the same backfield it's a no brainer. Plus he has a stacked backfield and great specialists with Kelso and Walsh. I'll take that team and beat the crap out of everyone else.

Hale,
Any thoughts from the draft so far?

Jones still majorly getting the snub - its past the mid way point of the 5th round. No way he was told you'll be drafted in the 5th/6th round and he still declared for the draft.

He lost a heck of a lot of money not coming back and training under Lakatos.

DH....

Weakest QB, RB and kicker.....unfortunately your GM skills are inversely proportional to yours skills as a beat reporter.

If nothing else the "nerdy" exercise demonstrated how many damn good players have worn the red and black over the last decade.

I meant stacked defense, not backfield

Yeah... I don't really think players should be eligible if they've never actually played in a game. In other words David, for waiting so long to take a QB, you should be stuck with Cox or Tereshinski.

How about some comments on the real NFL draft? I wonder if the guys who left early and fell are wishing they had come back.

Wow. Someone took DJ Shockley before David Greene?

Insanity. Total insanity.

David: I'd like to hear your commentary on:

1) How/why Jeff Owens fell so far.

2) If Reshad falling to 5th round means he should have stayed for his senior year.

3) If Rennie in the 3rd round means he should have stayed.

My thoughts on those 3 issues:

1) Perceived as too lazy.

2) Yes. A good senior year for Reshad, in what looks to be a really good defense, and he goes a lot higher than 5th round. This was a safety heavy draft.

2) No. 3rd round is about the best you can hope for when you don't fit the prototypical mold. I hope Curran tears it up and proves em wrong.

Pollack at end gives your defense a play maker like no other drafted. He would change the game. Pope, Brown and Gibson and the line you got opens up the running game for Ealey. Pope and Gibson's height make it so Murray doesn't have to be real accurate. Davis and Battle paired up at safety is a real nice combo with Battle for coverage and Davis in run support. Only bad matchup is going to be trying to cover Green with anyone, even a double. Better hope Pollack gets to the qb.

I hope you were picking the Freshman Fred Gibson. As the years went on, his arms grew shorter and shorter. His freshman year was by far the most productive and went down from there.
