Redding: Call on A.J. Was a Mistake

A few links you probably should read today... or maybe not, depending on your emotional state.

-- Georgia Sports Blog looks deeper into Tim Brando's post-game comments. Here's my take: It doesn't matter whether racism is the real motivation here or not. The fact that enough evidence exists to make it an issue and there's enough lattitude given to officials to make it possible is enough that the SEC needs to step in and make an immediate change.

I'll just spoke with head of officials Rogers Redding who said, indeed, the call on A.J. Green was wrong. I asked him about Brando's comments, and he said that he was not aware of the comments but would not respond to them when I explained what was said. Redding also said that he believes the rule is fine, said the rule committee reviewed it just last year, and said that he believes it is generally applied properly (and was in the case of the flag on Orson Charles and LSU's final TD).

-- Catfish & Cornbread think the game ops at Sanford Stadium need some tinkering. I'll also add that I saw a pretty hefty contingent of fans already on their way out of the stadium before Cox's interception to end the game. Those folks should not be allowed to buy tickets anymore.

-- Lose a game because of a lack of discipline? That's bad. Lose a recruit because of it? That's a lot, lot worse. This is pretty shameful.

-- I have a lot of admiration for Rex Robinson. It takes some cojones to be as forthright as he has been during the past year about the problems at Georgia. There are plenty of former Dawgs on the team payroll who are more than happy to drench your leg and tell you it's raining. But at the same time, Rex keeps a cool head, too. I think his take on the coaches is pretty right on.

The one word I've heard most to describe the Georgia coaches today is stubborn. Perhaps it's fair to ask if that "family" atmosphere Rex discusses creates a bit of a groupthink mentality, so what we see as stubborn seems like unanimous support within the locker room. Sometimes a group needs a dissenting voice.

-- And finally, Adam Krohn gives you someone to be angrier at than Jon Fabris... himself. The worst part though, is that while Krohn has been bashing Georgia for a year with little evidence to support his claims, his arguments now have some traction. (But still not a lot.)

sure - people will admit it was the wrong call. However the game result doesn't change, and it wont make anyone feel any better about giving up that last drive and touchdown. Would the field position made a difference? Its hard to say. At this point its a game of 'shoulda woulda coulda'. Only thing left to do is correct the mistakes the DAWGS made. We can't change what we don't control. Don't leave the game in the refs hands, and we wont be stuck with a similar outcome.

Adam Krohn makes some valid points.

But, I get queasy just thinking of the possibility of Richt's job being on the line.

Richt can control the situation, and move on---by making some very hard choices and decisions.

He is, afterall, the Head Coach.

That's exactly right, good citizen! Sit down, shut up, and let me and my pals continue to ruin college football! Never, ever assume that our cheating can possibly affect the outcome one bit!

Hee hee! You gullible fans make my life so much easier!

Tebow should get a few 15 yard penalties per game for his first down antics and gator chomp. Have they ever called Tebow on that???

Ugh. As much as I love BVG, I want no part of him as head ball coach.

I asked on another blog for the readers to enumerate the qualities they thought were indicative of a well-coached team. And then ask themselves which of those these Bulldawgs embody.

The answer is none.

I don't want Mark Richt to go anywhere. But we can't get any better until he makes some changes. That much is abundantly clear.

On the recruiting thing. I tend to want to hear the other side of the story and my hunch is that there absolutely is one. This one just doesn't pass the smell test. Doesn't make sense that a couple of guys would just leave the guy as the story is reported. Sometimes these recruits need a good story to explain the decision they did make. Of course, we will never hear the other side of the story since no one can comment on recruits. Or, maybe with our class already to full, we sort of had to make sure he didn't have a great time cause we are saving our last couple of spots for something else. If that is the case, sounds like we executed the plan perfectly.

How many times does this happen?:

Three college-age guys go to a party.

One or more find the opportunity to hook up with some some sweet thing(s).

The wing men leave the formation.

Hook-up or block happens at her place.

Guy leaves late at night and has to fly home solo.

Much ado about nothing, if you ask me.

If the head coach mans up and fixes the special teams and offensive line problems, this team can still be a champion.

He will have to challenge his staff and make some changes in responsibilities to do it.

He will have to say "No" more often than he says "Yes".

I havn't read all the post, but make no mistake, we are still paying for the celibration in the Fla. game 2 years ago. The refs. would never admit it.

I don't post often because of all the negnative stuff. I am convinced that this team will come around. Keep in mind that at least 6 or 7 teams in this league also have great talent and great coaches. Every team in the sec is loaded with talent.

Those that are calling for the coaches heads, should watch what you wish for. Richt and his coaches have produced some of the best teams in the country and in the league over his tenure. This is not to say that they are perfect.

I have been watching GA. football since 1950 and I have see long streaches of great football and long streaches of average football.
I live and die with every game just like most of you do. It kills me when they play badly. Under Richt I can assure you that we have been a long streach of excellent football.
