King Suffers Broken Jaw

I mentioned this in my Grading the Game post earlier today, but sources have confirmed to me that Caleb King did, in fact, break his lower jaw during Saturday's game against LSU. He thinks the injury occurred in the first half, but he continued to play throughout the rest of the game.

X-rays revealed it to be a clean break, which will hopefully not be a long-term injury. He cannot eat and it is painful to talk, apparently, and he will not practice Tuesday.

Whether or not he's ready to play -- with some protective covering I'd assume -- in time for Tennessee remains to be seen.

King finished the game with seven yards on eight carries and had three fourth-quarter receptions for 30 yards.

Well, that makes me want to cut him a bit more slack. I wonder if they knew about this already during the game. Because if they did and still sat Samuel in the 2nd half, wow. That can't bode well for him.

That's too bad. He was a great high school running back who has become totally snake bitten in college. Let's hope he gets all of it out of his system this year and comes back strong for 2010. We'll need him.

The break may have been clean, but the hit was not. Pics show the LSU defender with both feet off the ground, with chin tucked and the top of his head leading the hit. Yet another officiating blunder.

that hit was totally illegal

Both teams sucked for 3 ½ quarters and one came up short. You bunch of power buff cry babies; Your puppies got beat, the end! Stop Crying !!!!

You guys are basing this on a still photograph. Have you looked at the full speed video that's on YouTube? There was absolutely nothing wrong with the hit. It's the kind of thing that happens in football games hundreds of times over all over the country. I've never seen such a bunch of sour grapes whining in my life.

The only reason for sour grapes is the fact that Reshad Jones gets called for it when he hits the guy in the chest with his shoulder and yet that is not called. Whether it happens often or not, it is now illegal. His feet left the ground and there was helmet to helmet contact because he led with his head. Whether or not it should be a rule is your own opinion, but it is and should have been called. If AJ's celebration was illegal, that was illegal. It may not have changed the outcome, but I think we can all agree that fair officiating is hugely lacking in college football and the NFL. Refs are not held accountable for dumb calls and won't do any better until they are.
