How Low Can They Go?

Consider this your scary story for Friday the 13th...

Georgia is on the verge of setting a new standard for consecutive losses, having now dropped 11 games in a row. The Dawgs will take on Florida on Saturday afternoon, a regionally broadcast game on ABC against the school's biggest rival and the current SEC East leader. It's impossible to overstate how much a win would mean to the team, but it's hard to figure a scenario in which it happens. Georgia's locker room appears very divided in its goals, and the on-court performance has bourn that out -- with a 31-point loss to Tennessee in which the Bulldogs had five more turnovers than made baskets being the low point so far.

While players insist they haven't given up, spirits are definitely pretty low. Here's what the team's leadership had to say...

Pete Herrmann on the Tennessee loss...
"Since Coach Felton was dismissed two weeks ago, I thought that the players gave pretty good effort all the way through until Wednesday night, and I thought there was a meltdown there Wednesday night. They lost confidence in what we were doing on the floor, they lost confidence in each other, they lost trust in me somewhat in that game, and we've got to get that back."

Herrmann on earning a win...
"It's a difficult situation, and it's one that none of them me included have ever been involved in. It's untested water. This is the first time the players have been involved in something like this. You just try to be as upbeat and positive every day as you can be. If you earn a win, and you have to earn it, it would be huge, it would be genuine, and there'd be a lot of happiness in that locker room."

Corey Butler on the team's mind-set...
"It's a rough stretch, but guys are still hanging in there, and I know if we can just pull one win out, guys will see the light. The answers are there. We have the answers. We are the answers. If we can just pull one win out, it will definitely change guys' mind-set."

Terrance Woodbury on the difficulty of keeping the team motivated...

"It's very hard. Me and Corey, we're seniors and this is our last go 'round, man. For us to be in this situation, it hurts us both. We're trying to do all we can to keep ourselves together and stay with the team mentality, but there's not a whole lot we can do. We've got nowhere else to go but up. We've got to stay focused, stay hungry, stay together and keep fighting. You can only do so much for a certain amount of time. As leaders, we try to do all we can. I'm not sure if we're doing enough at all. Me and Corey and Albert, we've got to keep pushing our teammates, and I'm sure it's going to turn around, but it's just hard right now."

Woodbury on the off-court issues such as the Travis Leslie-Jeremy Price skirmish...

"Every negative thing you can find to attribute to our losing somebody's going to say, 'Well, this is why they're losing.' It always causes failure. Because of that, and whatever else you all have heard of, if it's negative, that's obviously going to hurt our team. We don't want it to, but that's what it does."

Woodbury on what a win would do...

"A win would raise everybody's spirits right now. That's what everybodys' talking about right now is we just want to win a game. If we can win a game, that would bring us back to where we know we can play with these people and we know we can win."
