just in the minute and a half that i saw of all 3 QB's, its soo obvious Murray is head and shoulders above the other 2, from what i saw atleast. He has the quicker release and more zip on the ball it seems. Do you think there has been any seperation at all between the 3 yet??

I agree with Anon. What surprised me the most was Mett's release. Maybe it's just me, but it seemed slow, and he wasn't keeping his elbows up. From a fundamental perspective he still seems pretty raw. Logan looked good. Murray definitely had the most velocity, and has a very nice release.

I was a little bothered by some of the drops, but overall it looked good. Can't wait for G Day!

Do no agree. Murray overthrew at least 1 ball badly and another that the receiver made a good play on. Mett has a completely different release but has much more zing...also, he hit all of his passes. Murray did seem smoother handing the ball off. Logan looked suprisingly competent. How did he show so badly last year?

Haha. Ok, so how did one viewer watch the same video and come to the opposite conclusion of the other two viewers?

I was thinking the same thing! Im the 1st anon to post up there, and from everything that i have heard about "big arm" Mett, Murray on the video looked like the more quicker, smoother, zippier (thats right, zippier) passer. But, what do i know, this is the 1st time ive seen them throw since last years GDay game!

the more I see of Logan, the more I like him. yeah he didn't do so hot as a backup in years past; but he does have the most experience.

i'd almost bet, Richt will stay loyal and give Gray the starting job like he did with Joe Cox. Murray is definately a top contender and the most popular pick. He's also pretty much who I'd want to see back there at starter, hes a franchise quarterback that we could get used to for a few years. BUT:

I want the best quarterback back there taking the snaps just like Richt and Bobo do. Gray is athletic like Murray. Gray has more experience. You may even see during our first few games, shared snaps between Gray and Murray. I don't think Gray is out of the mix at all.

Ditto on Gray. If I remember correctly Grey looked pretty good last year in the spring game.

Could be his poor showing last year had as much to do with play calling and the package he was working with than his skills - just sayin.

I think Mett release looks slow because it seems that he has a small hitch in the throw. When the ball is at his shoulder to throw he brings it slightly forward and then back to start his throwing motion.

Murray looks ok, not very sharp on accuracy, but his ball is thrown much tighter than Metts. I would rather see overthrows on the deep patterns than the underthrow for the interception that plagued Cox last season.

Gray should look head and shoulders above the other 2 with it being his 3 year in the system. Gray should be able to run this drill in his sleep and did not separate himself from his competition

Yeah can someone tell me what exactly we're looking for in this video? I really can't tell them apart.

They all ran the same series of plays. what you should take away is that there were some drops and all of the QB's arm release was a liitle low. they were really controlled passes so you can't reall tell anything from this except the recievers....Way too early to make predicitions...If trying to then they all looked good as they all look almost the same. you just had to look at it from 2 different sides of the field.

If CMR does remain "loyal" to Gray despite the fact that Murray or Mett perform better than him then we are going to have the same kind of season as last year. This loyalty crap is not how you coach in college...maybe in HS but not in college. The best players should play, period.

Also, those receivers need to start catching the damn ball.

Ask one of the sophomore receivers what it's like catching balls from a "real quarterback"

Ginny,

I'm with you Murray looked like all the rest. Logan might be a great practice QB but not be able to do it when the band is playing. Murray was a gamer in high school and should get some points for that.

Murray is gonna have a lot of balls knocked down at the line. No need for predictions on QB without defenders to read.

I wonder if David Greene could come in and do a seminar on selling the play action for these guys.

its like watching a race car during trials u cant tell much, but still cool to watch.

I don't think Gray was given much of a shot last year. I think JC was a lock because he was a very good Dawg and senior.

Gray may surprise this year - he was a highly recruited QB. The only knock on him coming out of HS was his size 6' 2" 175 #'s. Even the Gators tried very hard to get him.

Big East basketball, it's gouge-your-eyes-out-tastic!

Wow, I really didn't think Murray looked that good. His release is low and he is already really short. Whoever said a lot of his balls will get knocked down at the line of scrimmage is right. I can't wait to see all three in some game situations.

None of them had very much pop on that out route from one hash to the next. thats a pro style throw and it just looped out there....pick six just like spikes vs gray this year...i hope they are making the receivers pay out some punishment for the drops against air. thats uncalled for at this level.

Are they ever going to practice in full pads?

David,

Thanks for the great video. Please post more just like that one if you can.

What made it great was the length and there was NO CRAZY MUSIC superimposed on it. Hearing the sounds of practice is sweet and gives a much better feel.

It also gives you a unique product.

Thanks again.

David, curious to hear your take on the Urban Meyer / reporter incident. Maybe you'll give us your opinion on it w/ with a link tomorrow?

Anonymous said...

Yes thanks for the video. I did think this was the dawgvent for a second with the amount of negative postings per person.

Our best choice is Murray. Gray should be put in the slot. Mettenburger should be the back up. With all the things happening with Coach Meyers, we should be florida and win the east this year. Dooley, I know he is Vince's son, will not do shit at UT. I do not see Meyer being at UFla more than two more years. He is not anything without Teabag. For all the people who doubted Richt, go screw yourselves. He is a proven winner, and the best QB coach in the nation. I know Bobo is the disignated QB/Offensive coordinator on the staff. Richt is the real QB coach. I wish he was still calling the plays. We won 2 SEC championships and played in 3 when he called the plays. Corch Meyers is a bad person. Coach Richt is a real man's man. He is one of the best coaches in America. If we ever got rid of him we would be screwed. CTG is going to turn our defense around. I hope Tennessee likes being mediocre for the next 5 years and finishing 3rd in the SEC every year. The reign of Florida's dominance over the eastis coming to and end. The Dawgs are about to do what they did to UFla for the past 40 yrs prior to the 1990's, which is dominate. Remember in the days of Sinckwich, we beat UFla 75-0. Herschel was 3-0 against florida. Tebow was 2-1 as a starter. Herschel never lost a SEC game in his career. UGA>UFla. 5 national championships> than UFla 3. Meyer, I know you got mad at a beat journalist. Chill man and take another leave of absence. Richt never had to do that because he never had to cheat to win games. Bad things happen to bad people like you. Paul Johnson can suck it too. You will never win another game against the Dawgs. Have fun in Nebraska. Go Dawgs!!

Anonymous said...

Anon 11:17, I like your enthusiasm but with play calling like last year and quarterback play like last year, we are not winning the east. I have not seen anything yet that these quarterbacks can hit the passes Bobo likes to call in a game. If we are to win it will be ball control on the ground and a good defense with no special teams break downs.

if murray was a pure pocket passer like mett then i'd prob agree about his passes being knocked down at the line, but one of his strengths is his mobility so he might not have a line in front of him that much. and also, it's more likely that he'll release higher when there's actually someone to throw it over instead of just doing a drill. and i'm not worried about those drops at all. i mean the recievers main job for the drill is to present a target for the qb. they'll work on making catches later when they have someone to compete against.

and also not every single throw was shown (otherwise i'd be outraged at how little they actually practice), so maybe gray and mett also missed some throws and not just murray

Aron White continues to demonstrate dead fingers. Far too many drops!

I think a lot of people are pulling for Murray, myself included on that list. However, I thought Gray looked like a smooth operator in this video. I also agree with those who saw a slow release from Mett. He uses a wrist motion at the end of his release, which produces the velocity. He didn't look bad, but I still have him back at #3. Murray looked sharp, but badly missed on the long route. Overall, though Murray looked good.

It's hard to judge any separation off that video. All three look competent. Game action is going separate the man from the boys.
