Durham, Chapas Make Academic All-District Team
From UGA Athletics:
University of Georgia junior split end Kris Durham and sophomore fullback Shaun Chapas have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District football team.
Chapas and Durham were named to the first team of District 3 in recent voting conducted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The results were announced by CoSIDA Thursday.
To be eligible for the Academic All-District and All-America teams, student-athletes must have a minimum grade point average of 3.2, be a starter or key reserve, and be at least a sophomore in class standing. There are eight district teams from around the country selected and then a second round of voting is conducted for the national winners. The Bulldog duo will now be on the national ballot. The national team will be announced Nov. 25.
Durham, who is a native of Calhoun majoring in middle school education, has appeared in seven games with three starts for the 14th-ranked Bulldogs. He has nine receptions for 154 yards including a 61-yard touchdown catch in the season-opening win over Georgia Southern.
Chapas, who is a native of St. Augustine, Fla., and majoring in marketing, has seen action in all nine games including four starts. Along with excellent blocking skills, he has six carries for 24 yards and seven catches for 83 yards. Durham and Chapas are Dean s List students, two-year members of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and their community service includes working with Habitat for Humanity, Camp Sunshine and HEROS.
Georgia was one of five schools to have more than one representative on the 23-member District 3 team. Liberty led all schools with four selections followed by Furman with three and Georgia, Florida and Davidson with two each.
