What's a Pulmonary Contusion?

Courtesy of a link from our friends at the Bill Shanks Show to a site call FreeMD:

"A person with a pulmonary contusion has a bruise to the lung, which results in bleeding into the lung tissue. The collection of blood can prevent oxygen from passing from the lung, into the bloodstream. Pulmonary contusions are caused by severe chest injuries, such as multiple rib fractures or a sternum fracture. "

We don't get to speak to Mark Richt today, but I'm sure he'll be asked on his radio show. This doesn't sound like a one-week injury, eh? At the very least, let's hope A.J. Green is feeling a lot better than that description sounds.

Andre Johnson had the same injury 8 days ago. He played competently yesterday, although he clearly wasnt on his game.

Get well soon, AJ.

You have been a pleasure to watch.

Whenever the Dawgs play a physical team the list of injured folks is ridiculous. When was the last time the Dawgs caused ANOTHER team's list of injuries to look really bad?

Also, let's not forget that the play where AJ went down on should have never happened b/c there were three or four guys around him on that one. Ridiculous.

Get well, AJ.

Nice throw, Joe!

Danny Ware had a pulmonary contusion at UGA as well. I think he was out for a few games. It really depends on how serious the contusion or bruise is.

Sonny Dykes (Arizona) for offensive coordinator and John Tenuta (Notre Dame) for defensive coordinator. Mark Richt make a call today to both of these men in an attempt to save your job!

Thanks Joe. The team wasn't bad enough for you already.

The comments about Joe Cox are disgusting. Whether you want to admit it or not he is the best option right now. I know that isn't saying much, and maybe in hind sight they should of just started Murray from the beginning but they didn't. No reason to burn his RS now-for four lousy games so they can make it to Shreveport. How many of you would be crying if he didn't throw it to Green enough?

John Tenuta? Are you KIDDING me?

Pulmonary Artery (def.): What happens when your mediocre QB throws soft fluttering passes into triple coverage to your all-world WR, exposing him to massive hits.

What a crummy bunch of whining fans. Regardless of what Joe Cox does at QB, he is a lot better than the fans on this blog. Have any of you ever heard JC speak of how much UGA means to him? Is this how you speak of players fans who care? How lousy of so many UGA fans. What little, shallow people you are. You actually make Florida fans look like better SEC football people. Never thought I would see UGA fall to this level of behavior. Scumbags, imo.

heh, I love the idiot comments Anon left about us being bad fans because we get fed up of losing. I care about UGA SO MUCH, and this program means the world to me! I guess I should be the QB and if I suck it doesn't matter because I HEART GEORGIA!

Well said Trey -

I guess we should just be happy that JC loves athens!! YAY!

David,
A pulmonary contusion isn't quite as bad as the description makes it sound, although it does depend on the severity. The "bleeding into the tissue" is just a bruise, and the same description applies to a bruise on your leg, in which you are technically "bleeding into tissue". Obviously it's a little more severe because of the tissue, but that's more likely caused by the severity of force required to bruise your lung. But it's not like he's got blood pooling in his lungs or anything. Any breathing difficulty is more likely caused by pain (like having a bruised rib, which is actually usually more painful than a broken rib) than actual compromised tissue.

Keep up the good work, though, I still love spending much more time than I should reading your thoughts
