UGA's Gehan Wins Offensive Player of the Week

From UGA Athletics...

Georgia volleyball sophomore Lindsay Gehan was named the Southeastern Conference's Offensive Player of the Week according to an announcement made by the league Monday.

Gehan, a native of Dallas, Texas, helped Georgia earn its first conference victory of the season against Arkansas by tying a career-high with 15 kills on a career-high .591 attack percentage. She led a Bulldog offensive attack that posted a season-best .440 attack percentage in the match against the Razorbacks.

"It's a great credit to Lindsay's performance this weekend. She has some career-bests, but more than that, she did a great job of leading us in a position she was initially uncomfortable with after we made a switch," Georgia head coach Joel McCartney said of Gehan moving from opposite to the left side. "She's been extremely mature about the decision to make that switch, and I think it's that maturity that has enabled her to be stable enough emotionally to get in rhythm with her game. But she's done more than that now. She's stepped it up to a completely differently level with this weekend's performance."

Gehan went on to finish the week with 4.83 kills per set on a .404 attack percentage that contributed to 4.92 points per set. Her kills per set and points per set marks on the week were approximately double her season averages.

It is the first honor from the SEC for Gehan, and it marks the second Offensive Player of the Week award earned by the Bulldogs this season. Senior Maria Taylor earned the distinction on Sept. 8.

Gehan and the Bulldogs return to action this week by playing host to the LSU Tigers on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. ET in the Ramsey Student Center. Georgia will also travel to face Auburn on Friday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.
