And yet another hit to the backfield: Thomas suspended

Remember how the departures of Washaun Ealey and Caleb King left Carlton Thomas as the only veteran in the Georgia backfield? Well ...

As it turns out, Thomas is suspended for at least the opener against Boise State, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The report cites three anonymous sources, saying Thomas violated team rules in the spring.

Head coach Mark Richt and the team have yet to confirm the suspension. Team spokesman Claude Felton said he didn't anticipate any announcements Monday about player disciplinary actions, adding: "Discipline announcements in any sport will be made by
the head coach at the appropriate time."

If true, it's another signal as to the team's thinking in moving Richard Samuel back to tailback. The 5-foot-7 Thomas may not have been seen as a legitimate threat to start over Isaiah Crowell or Ken Malcome, but he at least provided a veteran presence.

We'll update this space when there's confirmation and/or further news.

On the bright side...and I don't want to jinx it...but we've had ZERO arrests so far!

LOL....

As much as I hate for things like this to happen, it makes me feel a little more comfortable regarding the coaches logic on moving Samuel back to tailback. That decision made no sense otherwise b/c Samuel was NOT a good tailback and unfortunately will never be an SEC quality tailback.

Hey ben! How many players do we have suspended for the first game this year?

"program FULL of knuckleheads" seems like a stretch, and most of the knuckleheads from last year have been forced to move on.

This is tough and getting tougher. I guess IC dotting the "I" is going to happen because the rest of the RB's won't be there.

Hopefully that cat can figure out pass protection QUICKLY

All we know about Samuel was that he was not ready to be an SEC back at the age of 17.

Things can change.

The decision to move Samuel to RB made sense even before this happened. Without CK and WE the dogs had no one with more game time experience at RB than Samuel. Everyone knows Carlton Thomas is a very limited use back--so the dogs best option with enough experience to jump in from the start is Samuel--he was not moved because of talent. He was moved because of experience. This should not be shocking to people--if he had been a talented RB all along, he would not have been moved to LB in the first place. That just isn't hard to understand. Sic 'em!
