Decisions Soon

UPDATE: Just a head's up... If you are interested in watching the Stafford/Moreno press conference live, you can do so at GeorgiaDogs.com. I'll have video up afterward as well.

UPDATE: Sorry, thanks to last night's storms, I haven't had Internet access all morning. In any case, as I'm sure you've heard, both Staff and Moreno are holding a news conference at 3 today. I'll have updates as soon as things are official, but I wouldn't hold your breath on anything other than a goodbye. I've been told by several sources that this is a done deal, and that's in line with what everyone else has also been reporting.

From a fan's standpoint, I have no doubt this is a rough day. Professionally speaking, it's impossible to argue with Knowshon's decision. He almost had to go. For Stafford, there's probably a good argument to be made on both sides, but at the end of the day, a No. 1 overall selection -- which he will very likely be -- is nearly impossible to pass up.

I won't argue with anyone who is a.) angry or b.) depressed today. But if I were to offer a bit of armchair psychology for Bulldogs fans, it would be this: Take today to reflect on the best moments you've gotten from these two guys. Most fans will go their entire lives without seeing two players that talented on the same team. Then tomorrow, start thinking about the future -- which given Aaron Murray, Joe Cox, Celeb King, et al, really doesn't seem so bad.

----

The Athens Banner-Herald is reporting that Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno both plan to announce their decisions on their NFL futures today.

Rivals is reporting that sources confirm both will go pro.

I have not gotten anything from sources I would deem credible enough for publication, but I will say that nothing I have heard from numerous second-hand sources would indicate that Rivals' reporting is incorrect.

So, long story short, we'll know more today, but it sounds like Georgia fans have seen the last of Stafford and Moreno in red and black.

Well, if you're hearing one thing and they're hearing another, who should we go with?

That means he didn't hear anything different than Rivals.com

In other words, they are both probably gone. :(

I sort of think Stafford will stay just because QB's that have come out early have not fared to well in the NFL.

If the story ends up being true that they are leaving, we will certainly miss them and they will leave big shoes to fill, but we'll be OK. UGA won SEC championships before they got here and UGA will win SEC championships after they leave. We thought the year after David Greene left would be a rebuilding year with Shockley and, what do you know, we won the SEC that year.

Update: If the ajc article http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/uga/stories/2009/01/07/stafford_moreno.html is correct and Stafords father is driving to Athens then Staford must be leaving.

David, if Staff is gone, can you do a rundown of what you've seen and heard regarding Cox or Gray and their potential for next year? How did they look last spring and in summer camp? Do you see a platoon happening?

It wouldnt make much sense for Stafford's dad to be driving to Athens to hear him say he is staying. This is the worse news all day....

Stafford's dad is driving back to school with Paige. They won't be in Athens in time for the press conference.

He's still gone though.

Is it weird that I'm actually kind of excited? I'll definitely miss them, but I'm very anxious to see Joe Cox, Logan Gray, Zach Metternberger, and Aaron Murray battle for QB next year. Behind the o-line we'll have, I think just about any of them would have success. Maybe I'm just an optimist...

2 Great Athletes that won alot of games for UGA. Fact is no SEC East Divisional titles or SEC Championship game appearances while they were at UGA. Maybe not all their fault but I'd rather have an average backfield and SEC Crowns than super talents and no championships.

I hope they do well. They both have handles themselves admirably while a Bulldawg.

No true dawg fan would say good riddance to Stafford or Moreno. It's been a pleasure watching both of these guys play for UGA. They both represented the University with class and will be missed on and off the field.

David, A lot was made of the fact some of the Michigan State players had the flu. Did our team have any such problems around the bowl time?
