Dawgs Nab Robinson

Georgia has added yet another key recruit this week. Defensive end Montez Robinson has committed to the Bulldogs, which with Branden Smith makes two big defensive additions this week alone.

Like Smith, Robinson picked Georgia over Alabama -- which is certainly a good sign given the supposed prolific recruiting of Mr. Saban. ESPN's take on Robinson: He's lean, rangy and, while not very polished, full of raw talent. Gotta be excited about a player like that at a position that was a huge weakness this year.

Robinson, who is from Indiana, seemed set for Auburn, by the way. But Tommy Tuberville's departure changed all that. Gotta love those Auburn boosters. Georgia fans ought to be sending the Tigers a thank you card.

If there's anything this season taught me, its not to waste my time projecting how great each individual player we sign is going to be. Some will be busts, some will be big surprises. Just wait and see. That being said, our pass defense for the future certainly looks a lot brighter after these past two commitments. According to Scout, Robinson ran a 4.43 forty- that's flying! And Branden Smith is supposed to be very very special.

What I am wondering is...

With all the new commits we have, I know we are getting close to scholarship limits. Especially if we can retain the big 2 scholarships with Stafford and Moreno.

Richt discussed that yesterday. The number is basically a moving target, particularly with Knowshon and Matthew still up in the air. But when you factor in players graduating and the loss of Baldwin, Lemon and Walter Hill who all left the program, I'm guessing Georgia will get pretty close to the 25 limit.

I wish we were allowed to trade players with other teams. A nickelback for one of LSU's rush ends. A possession receiver for a healthy tight end.

That would be fun!

A D-Coordinator here for a Sam Linebacker there, plus a commitment to be named later.
