UGA confirms that C. King, two others out

Let's take a quick break from travel hell day to officially report that Caleb King and two of his teammates will not be playing in the Liberty Bowl.

King is out for the game because of UGA academic policy, according to the football team. This comes as no surprise after earlier in the week, when the Bulldog tailback told a source that he was missing the trip because of an academic issues.

Two reserves, cornerback Derek Owens and offensive lineman A.J. Harmon, will also miss the game, according to the team. Owens and Harmon have what were described as NCAA-related issues.

UGA also said that all three players would be eligible for spring practice.

King's absence is the big one, especially with senior fullback Shaun Chapas also out, because of ankle surgery. Washaun Ealey and Carlton Thomas are basically all that's left at tailback; head coach Mark Richt said earlier in the week that freshman Ken Malcome would not have the redshirt taken off just for the bowl.

Georgia was in a similar spot midway through the season, when King was suspended two games following an arrest for failing to appear in court on a speeding charge. The Bulldogs ended up using Ealey and Thomas, while also giving carries to fullbacks Fred Munzenmaier and Zander Ogletree.

We will have more from Richt on Monday. (The plan was to have more from Richt today in Memphis, but thanks to travel delays, we're frantically typing this blog post in Charlotte, waiting for the connecting flight to Memphis. Well ... happy holidays!)

Caleb King just proves that getting so worked up about 4 and 5 star players coming out of high school does nothing. He still has not lived up to the hype on the field and can't stay out of trouble off of it...

Just leave Caleb Darnell King.

Some things, you just can't control, Caleb King said. B.S. you cannot control going to class and meeting with academic advisors 5 times.

I had 239 hours at UGA and I never missed a class. 180 hours required for my degree.

BZ , should we just settle for 2 and 3 stars like Vandy or go head to head for 4 and 5 stars with Bama and Florida? I think you know the answer to that one.

This football program is way out of control.

More bad press.

3 more suspended.

Good Lord.

Georgia Tech has 4 players out for grades, LSU's starting running back is out with a similar issue. It happens across the country if you want to research out. The latest graduation stats showed Georgia second only to Vanderbilt in graduating players in the SEC .

Tennessee had a player go home, 1 is suspended, 1 was dismissed and 2 are waiting to see if they'll make their grades.

UGA just might as well sttle for 2 & 3 star players because the 4 & 5 star players play like crap. Oh wait a minute, we need to add coaching in there as well. If CMR loses the bowl games then McGarity will need to make some changes rather thn excuses.

The problem is not the 4 and 5 stars play like crap, it's that we don't have enough of them.

so to all of you that got worked up about us getting 4 and 5 star guys, how much of your stress do you think those players took into account and decided to come to georgia, because you wanted them too. yeah, keep thinking that you actually made a difference in recruiting. its hard to predict an 18 year olds decision. my point was that i use to get mad when we didn't get great high school players but have realized that there is no point in worrying about it. its not going affect their decision. i wanted caleb king to come to georgia so bad because he was "suppose to be the next hershel" but he has been far from it on and off the field. it starts with them being a person of high character off the field and then a good player on it. we have to find guys who can stay out of trouble. thats all im saying
