Good insight.
- Its hard to believe the D...David,

Good insight.

- Its hard to believe the DT's get a "C" this year. Its probably easy to say Kade has been the most consistent of what we thought was going to be a "Fab 3" DT rotation.

- I think Coaching could be blamed for Sturgis made field goal before the half. UF had a holding penalty that we declined. I would have sacraficed the down and backed them up because of how close they were to field goal range. Knowing that giving up points there if the Offense doesn't score in the 2 minute drill would be a game changer. Urban said he'd let the kid kick 65 if needed, how do you not know what his range is?

- You failed to put Alec Ogletree in your "future" category for the DB's. I'm assuming he'll play next year. Then again we could carelessly burn his redshirt like we have Marlon Brown.

- Bobo's play calling is way too conservative on 3rd downs. He doesn't bring a killer instinct to the game plan. 3rd and 15 you have to go for the first down, not run a dive play. He doesn' know how to orchestrate drives. The fundamental goal of the offense is to move the chains and score points. He doesn't call plays on 3rd and long that put UGA in a high percentage play at converting 3rd downs. Its either a run or a long bomb. When's the last time we saw an out route to the 1st down marker, a dig route to the first down, etc. We WILL NEVER beat Florida with a timid game plan. We won in 2007 because we were agressive and came into the game trying to out score the gators. Remember the Knowshon leap followed by the immediate answer by florida. We answered that with a go route up the seam to MoMass. This rivalry needs to be a heavy weight fight where each team trades knock out puches, not jabs or rope a dope tactics. I believe some of the play calling, playing conservative has to negatively impact the players. "the coaches want to punt again..." If you know your defense is atrocious you have to think you'll need to score every time you touch the ball.

- To me a close runner up for worst coaching job this season is the job Searels has done. The shuffeling of the lineman is horrid. It's okay to rotate guys in at the same positions but to keep switching them around is ridiculous. "A jack of all trades but an expert at nothing...." How in the world did it take 8 games for us to essentially go back to the same starting OL that we finished up with for the last 7 games of 2008 (plus or minus Vance after his ACL). As soon as Trinton went down at OKIE ST, I told myself ok we'll be fine the coaches will just put the 2008 lineup out there....NOPE 7 games of musical chairs...I'd like to see the same lineup the rest of the way and in 2010 start Trinton at OG when he comes back until he gets comfortable with the knee...Stacy Searles (F-)

- Cox's INT to start the 3rd quarter was showcased his inability to check at the line. UF was in a 4-3 with the LB walked up to the line. We were in an I formation with Strong Left(TE) Twins Left. Cox didn't recognize the AJ Jones the LB at the line of scrimage. Cox should have checked to a run play off the right side to the TB and short side of the field. He read the defense very poorly. I wonder if AJ Jones knew the play call like Spikes did. A run off tackle to the week side would have been a big hitter.

- I know this is a pipe dream but I'd love to have Tommy "Tubbs" Tubberville be our "Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator" for the 2010 and 2011 seasons. I don't think any premiere jobs will open this year and being the DC at UGA would allow Tubbs to get some pay back to a lot of the SEC. Plus it would be a recruiting advantage and someone that is familiar with the landscape of the SEC. We already know he's not opposed to jumping ship to another SEC program. Plus his ties from being DC at Miami could help us recruit the athletes in south FL.

John BAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162716793249150680.post-37692602614891889032009-11-02T20:40:49.805-05:002009-11-02T20:40:49.805-05:00David, you just proved some serious gamer cred by ...David, you just proved some serious gamer cred by using the Konami Code.

As someone who owns a gaming company, I am impressed.

Nice.Muckbeasthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07945373575035982136noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162716793249150680.post-23921629763852345242009-11-02T20:37:20.275-05:002009-11-02T20:37:20.275-05:00Thanks David. Looking purely at personnel, there's no reason to think that we can't compete for the East in the next 2 years. That assumes, of course, that we get a fundamental overhaul of our defense, and, as you point out, some solid QB play.
I, for one, think the writing is on the proverbial wall that AM is the guy next year--or, maybe more accurately, I was convinced that Logan Gray was NOT, at any point, going to be "our guy" the first time we trotted him out there to field a punt/cover a kickoff. QBs are too valuable in the SEC--if you think you've got one that's starter material, you don't put him in harms way like that.
I hate to be playing the "next year" game, but that's quite simply what we're left with.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162716793249150680.post-66501117818439295592009-11-02T17:05:17.346-05:002009-11-02T17:05:17.346-05:00you just made me dizzy. :-(

A full season from a healthy Houston could be beastly.

I think you slightly under-rate Boykin's growth at DB... he's a sound tackler that wraps with arms... a complete contrast to the shoulders and braids style of my least favorite UGA player ever... thank God #3 will be gone. And BB is evolving with coverage... could be shutdown type in future.

Also, you glossed over the TE's a bit. I think White/Charles can be a huge asset in future... esp. for an inexperienced QB... big targets... and can help keep opposing LB's honest.

I agree with your coaching assessment. Bobo is not the problem... think how stifling the inconsistencies on O must be. Many people expected gadgets or new plays after bye week, but Bobo played it smart and kept it simpler. I think they haven't tried wilder plays 'cause they realize the kids and QB can't execute. I would like to see some interior screens, and, with noodle arm Cox gone, an occasional wideout screen.

As for our defensive coordinator's execution... To a fault, I am typically quite patient with coaches and very slow to come to the "he needs to go and go now" conclusion. Coaching changes carry with them a lot of negative residuals and are never as painless and slam-dunk as fans like to make them. However, this situation has transcended personalities, schematic issues, etc. We have landed upon change for change's sake territory, which I am not sure Coach Richt has grasped just yet. It is not about loyalty or fairness at this point as the benefits, to the extent there are any, of the status quo is so far outweighed by the negativity that has come to characterize our present circumstance. There is a general sense of inertia, stagnation and malaise that permeates this program and fan base. Now all that is left is for Mark to get his next hire(s) right. He should take his time, calls for immediate blood notwithstanding, as he deliberates on this career impacting decision(s).ChicagoDawghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09967480095780163358noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162716793249150680.post-75812920673586512592009-11-02T16:22:27.488-05:002009-11-02T16:22:27.488-05:00Great info David.
