The black "dust" is some type of rubberized component used to help the field maintain its grass-like qualities, and I'm sure it helps make the field softer as well.

D.Hale,

Was is just me, or did Boykin look sluggish all game Saturday? He just didn't seem to have that "zip" he had vs SC. Not sure if he was less than 100% or was just physically worn down due to his increased role on D and ST. Maybe he was recovering from the flu...

Also, anon commented on Dowtin and I'd like to second his thoughts. I thought he was pretty raw when he played in week one, and he failed to wrap up several times against SC. But against Arky he looked like a different player. Yeah, his coverage skills are lacking, which seems to be en vougue if you play for Willie, but he plays with a high energy level and was a sound tackler as well. I'm enjoying seeing his maturation from week to week. His improved play will be crucial to our success as our season ramps up.

As a whole, our defense looks lost more often than looking confident in being in the correct position to make a play. Several plays the Arky receiver would catch the pass and 2-3 DB's would be 10+ yds away, all closer to one another than to the WR. What gives??? And other times we would call a delayed LB blitz and the TE or RB would sneak out into the flats uncovered.

Maddening is what it is for a fan!!

I just want to see an aggressive, consistent pass rush. That will make our coverage look soooooo much better. If Willie and the boys can get it done, awesome! If not, get somebody in here who can!!!

Go Dawgs!!!HamDawg11https://www.blogger.com/profile/15247306208768669241noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162716793249150680.post-34895568416408678722009-09-22T09:16:39.746-04:002009-09-22T09:16:39.746-04:00FACT: We play the same scheme we have always play...FACT: We play the same scheme we have always played on D. Willie does nothing different in scheme from what he and Van Gorder have always done.

FACT: Richt, WM have been consistent in explaining this.

FACT: The results are dramatically worse and worsening.

So why then is it acceptable to say, "we're doing the same thing we've always done"? Isn't one of the defining characteristics of being a coach to adjust based on what you see on the field? When we hasn't had that, the results have been terrible. So... is this the coach's fault? Well, yes, in a way. I've got to think that a great (or even very good) DC would figure out a way to adjust the scheme or the game-plan based on the talent available better than WM has.

But none of us really has any idea where the real problem lies. Is it scheme? Is it week-before-the-game coaching? Is it player execution and focus? Is it during-the-game coaching and playcalling? Is it mid-game adjustments? Is it the inability to draw out the potential of the players? Who really knows? The bottom line is that the buck ultimately stops with Mark Richt. My opinion is that as long as we keep putting together 10 win seasons, CMR won't make a change (and one could certainly argue why should he? Most programs would love to average 10 wins). But... Richt is a very competitive guy, and he knows the game. If we start losing a few more of these games when our offense puts up 30+ points (like GA Tech), I bet we see a change. (And wow, that easily could have happened the past two weeks).Dog44noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162716793249150680.post-57013338063032276452009-09-21T22:07:18.318-04:002009-09-21T22:07:18.318-04:00In addition to his good play so for this season, C...In addition to his good play so for this season, Cornelius Washington is kind of a bada-- name for a defensive lineman. What I do ...I'm not a Martinez hater or lover. What I do believe is Mark Richt knows football. Willie was the same DC in 2007 when our defense was as good as any in the country with that monster marcus howard coming off the corner. UGA somehow hasn't had that special DE for the past couple of years. It makes a huge difference especially when the DC is not a fan of the blitz.
Bottom line is the coaches can't make the plays themselves and we are weak and young in some critical areas on defense this year. As for our speedster safety, his poor reaction time to the speed of the game outmatches his raw speed everyone talks about. That TD play where he stood flat footed until the WR was within a couple of yards of him told the story of his repeated problems throughout his career. If they back him up 40 yards off the ball, it wouldn't be enough with that slow reaction time.
I'll predict Evans playing time decreases dramatically over the next few weeks. Sunday film session was probably not fun for Boykin. Simply put he was schooled. Hopefully, he will learn and mature quickly because every team we play now will throw at him like they did Evans last year.
We will look better on D the next 3 weeks simply due to not playing 3 great QB's with 3 great offensive minded HC's against us. In the end, all this experience may be the reason we beat LSU & UT and if we do that, we will win the East, mark my word.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162716793249150680.post-45295996746650016502009-09-21T20:43:57.238-04:002009-09-21T20:43:57.238-04:00David-I have just started reading your Blog this y...David-I have just started reading your Blog this year and I want to tell you that you do a great job. However, I must point out that we typically play down to the level of our opponents in games that we should win by 4-5 TDs. From what I've seen ASU is a fairly good team that, if they have watched any of our video from the past 2 weeks, could easily pick us apart if they prepare well and bring out a respectable offensive game plan. Plus if it's raining (as forecasted) that could lead to more turnovers for our already fumble-prone offense. Personally, I expect a shootout and a closer than expected score. Hopefully I'm wrong and we put them away early.

Basically, I said all that to say we should not be looking past ASU at all.Philhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13816169665738713294noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162716793249150680.post-85716477942593740042009-09-21T19:23:43.832-04:002009-09-21T19:23:43.832-04:00I'm not sure who it was that got beat for a TD...I'm not sure who it was that got beat for a TD and took a wicked stiff arm - but at least he gave it out when he slammed the receiver to the ground at the goal line.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162716793249150680.post-66500734228050304092009-09-21T17:50:36.363-04:002009-09-21T17:50:36.363-04:002-0!
