I live in the DC area and only get to read about it on the blogs including the AJC. Even when I went to Charlotte, I have not heard anything. I think folks need to chill out and let CMR do his job.

As for ESPN v. Mike Leach, I stand with Mike Leach. Once the recorded call with Craig James was released, it only confirmed what I thought. It's too bad that Leach was caught in the middle of a power play between the chancellor and ESPN. He'll come through but it may take TTU some time to recover from this. I am sure it is now a recruiting tool all over Texas against TTU.

One thing you left out is Urban Meyer. If Georgia and the other programs were smart, they would be running to Florida and telling the kids that things are unstable in Gainsville and that they need a better experience. It's time to out recruit Florida in Florida!Scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06863085136731395910noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162716793249150680.post-50728904856891028462010-01-03T14:46:52.418-05:002010-01-03T14:46:52.418-05:00Attached are Bulldog records throughout history. The article itself only dealt with the numerous false starts that have been reported and Richt's silence about them -- at least, that was all I was trying to get across.David Halehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02872368286061273646noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162716793249150680.post-6289699786804833282010-01-03T13:12:53.238-05:002010-01-03T13:12:53.238-05:00David, thanks as always for the coverage. In your ...David, thanks as always for the coverage. In your Macon.com article on the DC search, the headline referred to "confusion" on the part of presumably Richt. But the confusion's all out here; I think that he is being systematic and methodical, and that keeping things under wraps is appropriate and sensible (see Evans's search for the basketball coach last year, which was also conducted under the radar--successfully. Based on that article, I was concerned that you were more interested in your reporting than in the program's best interests, but in this column you appear to have a more reasoned approach to the search. It's easy to sit back and critique the performance of someone who's doing a job that none of us readers is qualified to do. Let's let CMR do his job. We're going to end up fine and all the anxiety will go away. If recruits were going to bolt, we'd have heard about it by now; and as you note, they come for Richt more than anything else.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162716793249150680.post-30064225313071449532010-01-03T13:02:37.745-05:002010-01-03T13:02:37.745-05:00Mike Leach didn't realize that nobody puts bab...Mike Leach didn't realize that nobody puts baby in a corner.stan pnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162716793249150680.post-16955749572260067462010-01-03T12:58:59.642-05:002010-01-03T12:58:59.642-05:00Anonymous, you nailed it! ESPN is trying to appear unbiased, but the announcers for last night's Alamo Bowl didn't always do a good job with that. At one point one of them said, as if it were established fact, that James had been locked in room. Leach has a law degree from Pepperdine, no doubt he will get paid.

David, thanks for the reminders about the DC search. Bottom line, as you said, if UGA hires the right person, none of this other stuff will matter. I am curious though why Florida's search seems to be taking place under the radar. I just Googled the following: University of Florida defensive coordinator search, and with the exception of one article about Meyer's leave of absence, all of the other items that come up are about UGA!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162716793249150680.post-90104648772438112752010-01-03T12:17:27.034-05:002010-01-03T12:17:27.034-05:00Texas Tech and Mike Leach: I think Leach got railr...Texas Tech and Mike Leach: I think Leach got railroaded, but he probably shouldn't have tied Adam to the rails anyway. I've combed several different sources on this story and in the end it sounds like (at least to me) that Adam James was an "IsME" and his old man is this year's Beck Campbell Award winner. Leach got tired of Adam's laziness and decided to make an example of him in front of the team. What he really should have done is just take his scholly. Honestly, I can't see that Leach did anything wrong. Sure, it's unusual to put a player with a mild concussion in isolation, but this isn't a "treatment" issue. It's a discipline issue. The kid wasn't trying and he was flaunting his lack of desire in front of the team. Combine that with his dad being a pain in the ass and Leach's flaky-ness and VIOLA! Add in that Tech can't afford the contract and you've got a firing.

TT will have to pay ML something and they won't hire Tubs (how can they? He'll cost a fortune!) or Art Briles, but will settle for an inexpensive assistant.

This is all good news for Texas and OU, Okie State and A&M. Tech just took all the momentum built under Leach and threw it away. Nice job, egg heads.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162716793249150680.post-40200549851327873652010-01-03T11:40:45.331-05:002010-01-03T11:40:45.331-05:00Nice photo essay! If only they'd gotten a shot of the shuttle lines...

That also reminded me -- the fire baton girl got a standing ovation from the A&M fans when she was in their corner during halftime. I guess there's no room for fire in their militant halftime show. When their band was on the field I kept looking for Kim Jong Il in the stands.Kathleennoreply@blogger.com
