The reason his offense looks so good is that teams only get a week to prepare for it and it is different than most of the offenses that teams practice for. Most every team that has any extra time to get ready for it does very well against it. Smart of Johnson to use something different but it does not mean that the offense can't be figured out.Dawgfan17noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162716793249150680.post-15275332947476062912010-05-03T16:37:24.882-04:002010-05-03T16:37:24.882-04:00Big Muddy - you must have forgotten - techies are ...Big Muddy - you must have forgotten - techies are simply light-years smarter than the super athletic Dawgs so it stands to reason they could / would learn and perfect the 3 4 in a matter of hours.JRLhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13435267493705547179noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162716793249150680.post-79887586774310465952010-05-03T15:32:28.605-04:002010-05-03T15:32:28.605-04:00Welcome home, David. Seriously, when you announced that you were taking the weekend off, I had visions of LeMay somehow committing with both Tech and the Gators, Sanford grass being replaced by red turf and Reggie Ball being hired as our new QBs coach. Praise be unto Dawg that these things did not happen.

"This spring, although the 3-4 is a complex package as Georgia defenders are learning, the Jackets were able to break it down and make it look simplistic."

Am I reading something that's not there or is this a subtle dig at the Dawgs?Big Muddy Dawghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09635892872627104381noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162716793249150680.post-41120784915824051412010-05-03T14:54:52.611-04:002010-05-03T14:54:52.611-04:00It looks like the Dawgs don't only have the be...It looks like the Dawgs don't only have the better football team, but they also have the better beat writer.

I can't help but think that if you were reporting on Tech you would mention 1) the benefit of having Josh Nesbitt back, 2) the unproven running backs and how hard it is to fill the shoes of someone like Dwyer, and 3) the inevitable transition time it will take to get Al Groh's defense sufficiently installed. In short, you would have been objective.Andyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13605765709932688549noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162716793249150680.post-7060457123730888972010-05-03T13:53:29.211-04:002010-05-03T13:53:29.211-04:00Jeesh. Good Lord, I nearly died laughing when he referred to Johnson as the "master of on the fly adjustments." Man, he really adjusted well in the Miami game. And the Georgia game. And the Iowa game. Did Tech get a come from behind win at all last season? I guess they did have to make some serious adjustments to take down mighty Wake Forest, who was 4-6 at the time of their meeting.
Don't get me wrong; I have serious respect for Johnson and his no BS attitude. I also do not believe that the triple option offense (I don't care what they want to call it- its a triple option) will be a flash in the pan. I think that you can win a bunch of games with it if you play as consistent as Johnson's teams usually do. But I am so tired of hearing the Tech people refer to the offense as "unstoppable" like it is some kind of direct gift from the football gods. If a defense stays at home and the guys make plays when they need to, they will put themselves in a position to beat Tech (see: Miami and Georgia games).

Also, the way Coley talked about the Tech D made it seem like they are already implementing every aspect of Groh's system perfectly and will be dominating every team they play. I simply refuse to believe this. It may be true that the team has a good grasp of the 3-4, but I have a hard time thinking that a unit who had serious issues last year and then lost its two best defensive players is somehow going to be sooooo improved. I think the same thing will happen with our guys. We may see some improvement, but I think we're dreaming if we think we're going to see a reincarnation of the 2002.

Any who, just my $0.02.VAdawgnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6162716793249150680.post-33658439880454990962010-05-03T11:59:19.824-04:002010-05-03T11:59:19.824-04:00Definitely a little throw up came up with that rea...Definitely a little throw up came up with that read...
